MILA'S POV

Waking up in Jax Kingston’s bed felt like a dream I never wanted to open my eyes from.

The morning sun leaked through his heavy bedroom curtains, hitting the sharp angles of his jaw. He was still fast asleep, one massive, tattooed arm thrown over my waist, anchoring my body right against his chest.

I lay there for a minute, barely breathing, just watching him.

With his long dark hair messy on the pillow and his emerald eyes shut, he didn't look like "Glacier," the terrifying NHL goal

JAX'S POVThe steel-reinforced doors of the Bay Blades executive suites looked like a prison wall, and I was about five seconds away from kicking them right off their hinges."Kingston, baseline it for a second. You need to keep your head," Sullivan muttered, his heavy hand clamping down on my shoulder. The team captain was still in his sweaty practice gear, his Southern drawl tense as he stood with me in the carpeted hallway outside the General Manager’s office."I’m on your side, buddy. We all are. But pacing around here like a caged grizzly isn’t going to stop the front office if they’ve already got the trade calls lined up with Chicago.""They aren't trading me, Sully," I growled, ripping myself away from his grip.My long hair was plastered to my neck, and the ink on my arms felt hot under my skin."They want to bury me because I won't play their corporate games. And they’re trying to ruin the best agent this organization has ever seen just to cover up a scandal that doesn't even

MILA'S POVThe parking garage felt like a tomb. The air was cold, smelling of concrete and exhaust, and my heart was beating so hard it hurt my ribs.I looked at Jax’s face, watching the color completely drain from his cheeks as he stared at his phone."Jax?" I whispered, wiping a fresh tear from my cheek. "What is it? What did Sullivan say?"Jax didn't answer right away. His grip on my cardboard box tightened so much the cardboard groaned under his large hands. The muscles in his jaw were ticking, his green eyes flashing with a mix of shock and pure, unadulterated rage.Without a word, he turned the phone toward me.My eyes scanned the text from Sullivan.Finalizing a trade deal to send you to Chicago... deadline tomorrow. The world tilted on its axis. My breathing hitched, and for a second, I thought I might actually throw up right there on the concrete floor."No," I breathed, shaking my head. "No, no, no. They can't trade you. You’re Glacier. You’re the backbone of the Bay Blades.

  • The Hockey Playboy's Plus Size Obsession    Chapter 41: Fuck My Reputation

JAX'S POVThe urge to smash something was pulsing through my veins like a freight train.Ten minutes ago, I was sitting in my truck outside the arena, looking at a framed picture Jess had texted me of her new apartment. For the first time in two years, I had felt a tiny shred of peace. The ice was melting. Mila’s bright, ridiculous sunshine had started to crack open the heavy chest armor I’d been wearing since my sister’s overdose. Then, a courier had knocked on my window and handed me a plain manila envelope.Inside was a picture that made my blood run entirely cold.It was Mila and me against the boards of the frozen pond. The angle was sharp, clear, and disgusting in how much it violated the one private space I had left.I didn’t care about myself. My career could burn to the ground for all I cared. But Mila’s face in that photo—the soft, vulnerable look of pure trust she’d given me—was out in the open for some sick bastard to use against her.I hadn’t even thought. I just drove. I

He just looked like my Jax.I smiled, my dimples popping as I carefully traced a finger over the black and grey ink on his forearm. My heart did a happy little flip. Yesterday on the frozen pond had changed everything. The way he loved my body, the way he held me in the snow, and the way he looked out for young Noah... it made me realize I was completely, totally a goner for him.Slowly, so I wouldn’t wake him, I wiggled out from under his heavy arm. My body ached in t

**MILA'S POV**The frozen pond felt like our own little world. Snow fell soft around us, making everything quiet and pretty. Noah had left a few minutes ago, waving goodbye with a small smile on his face. Now it was just me and Jax on the ice. My legs still felt a little shaky from what we did against the boards, but in a good way.Jax skated over to me, his big body moving smooth like he was born on the ice. He grabbed my hands and pulled me closer. "You did good out here, sunshine. Didn't know you could move like that."I laughed, holding onto his arms for balance. "I told you I wasn't bad. Used to go to the rink a lot as a kid. Helped me forget stuff sometimes."He nodded, green eyes soft under the falling snow. "Keep away one more time?"We played easy, passing the puck back and forth. I stole it from him twice, laughing when he chased me. Then I slipped on a patch of rough ice. Jax caught me fast, arms wrapping around my waist, pulling my back tight to his chest."Got you," he sa

**Jax**The next morning Coach called me into his office before practice even started. He looked pissed, arms crossed over his chest. “Kingston, you bailed early yesterday. What the hell was that?”I stood there, jaw tight. “Personal thing. Won’t happen again.”“Personal thing? You’re our starter. We got games coming. Can’t have you disappearing on us.” He leaned forward. “Mila’s supposed to be keeping your ass in line. She know about this?”Before I could answer, the door opened and Mila stepped in, breathing a little fast like she’d rushed over. “Coach, it was my fault. I asked Jax to check on something for a sponsor follow-up. Should’ve cleared it first.”Coach raised an eyebrow, looking between us. I jumped in quick. “Nah, she’s covering for me. It was on me. Had to handle some family stuff. Won’t happen again, Coach.”He stared at me hard for a long second, then waved his hand. “Fine. Don’t let it become a habit. Both of you. Get on the ice.”Mila shot me a look as we walked out,
