Paige’s POV

Heat floods my face. I bolt, running down the hallway. I didn’t stop until I was outside, the cold air hitting my face like a slap back into reality, making me release the breath I never knew I was holding.

What was that? My palms pressed against my eyes as I groaned quietly into them.

“Arghhhhh” What the hell had just happened?

I’d gone there to return Knox’s money

Instead…

I’d let Knox Tatum pin me against a wall. Why did some stupid, traitorous part of me want him to kiss me?

And the worst part?

If he had, I’m not sure I would’ve wanted him to stop.

My stomach twisted at what would have happened if Enzo hadn’t walked in.

“Get a grip, Paige,” I muttered to myself.

“He’s an arrogant jerk.”

Knox Tatum is a guy I hate. A bully. He doesn’t inflame any sensation from me other than resentment and irritation, so tell me why am I so turned on by just him touching my neck?

I shook my head and quickened my pace, hugging my jacket tighter around myself. I was so deep in my own head that I nearly collided with someone crossing my path.

“Oh—sorry, sorry, do you know where the admin building is?” I blinked, refocusing. A girl about my age, stunning. The kind of beauty that made you blink.

She had big eyes, flawless skin, legs for days. Her dark hair pulled into a loose knot, tote bag sliding off one shoulder, wearing the particular expression of someone who’d already asked three other people and gotten three different answers.

“You’re new,” I said, before I could stop myself.

“That obvious?” she smiled, more to herself.

“Nobody looks that lost unless it’s their first week.”

She laughed — warm, easy, immediate. “Guilty. Just transferred. I’ve officially been walking in circles for twenty minutes.”

“Admin’s that way.” I pointed. “Ugly beige building, looks personally offended by everyone who walks in.”

“Extremely reassuring description, thank you.”

“I try.”

“I’m Sia, Sienna, but I prefer Sia.” She thrust her hands between us. She seems very friendly.

I take her hand and give it a firm shake. “Paige.”

Sia fell into step beside me as we headed toward the admin building. “You looked like you were having a moment back there. Is everything okay?” She glanced sideways at me.

“Rough morning,” I said, which wasn’t a lie, exactly—just not the whole truth.

“Say no more. I’ve had approximately four hundred rough mornings since I got here.” She grinned. “This campus is actively trying to defeat me.”

“It gets easier. Allegedly.”

“Allegedly,” she repeated, grinning wider. “I’m choosing to believe you.”

“So what’s your major? Or is that a rude question to ask someone who just saved you from wandering this campus forever?”

“Still deciding. I like to keep my options criminally open.” She glanced at me. “Yours?”

“Pre-law.”

Her eyebrows lifted. “Okay, smart and good with directions. Terrifying combination.”

“I try.”

“You keep saying that like it’s a whole personality.”

“It might be.” She laughed and asked me something about the dining hall, then the weather, then whether the campus coffee shop was actually as bad as everyone online said it was — a string of small, harmless questions that somehow made the walk stretch longer than it needed to, neither of us in any rush to end it.

“Okay, but seriously,” Sia said at one point, gesturing broadly at the quad, “why is every building on this campus a different decade of ugly? Like, someone clearly gave up halfway through a master plan.”

“Architectural chaos. It’s part of the charm.”

“Is it, though?”

“No. Not even a little.”

She laughed hard enough that a couple of students glanced over, and I found myself smiling wider than I had all morning, the whole locker room disaster fading further into the background with every step.

By the time the admin building came into view, I almost didn’t want the walk to end.

“This was extremely helpful,” Sia said, slowing to a stop. “I’ll probably get lost again tomorrow. Fair warning.”

“I’ll be around. This is kind of my regular route.”

“Lucky me.” She smiled, genuine and warm, already turning toward the entrance. “See you around, Paige.”

“See you.”

I watched Sia disappear through the doors, smiling to myself.

With one last glance at the administration building, I turned and headed for my lecture.

…….

By the time my last class ended, my brain felt like it had been put through a blender.

Professor Henderson had spent nearly two hours talking about constitutional law, and somehow, despite sitting through every minute of it, I’d absorbed almost nothing.

Every time I tried to focus…

My mind drifted. To the way Knox had looked in the locker room.

To how big his co—

I slammed my book shut.

“Get it together, Paige.”

My phone vibrated, and I didn’t even have to look to know who it was.

Mike.

He’d been texting me almost nonstop ever since the party.

Mike: Can we please talk?

‘Just five minutes.’

‘Please stop ignoring me.’

I stared at the screen for a long second before locking it without replying, shoved it back inside my bag and slung it over my shoulder.

Leah had texted earlier to say she’d be stuck in practicals until evening, so I’d be heading to the diner alone.

I had barely made it to the classroom door—

Pain exploded low in my stomach.

It ripped through me like a serrated blade and forced me to double over with a small gasp.

I grabbed the edge of the desk beside me before my knees could give out.

No. No, no, no.

My pulse roared in my ears.

It was too early. It wasn’t supposed to happen until next week. But when another spike of pain caused tears to form in my eyes, it was clear Mother Nature didn’t give a damn about my schedules.

It was happening now, and there was nothing I could do about it.

  • The Hockey Player who Hates me    Chapter 26- I just wanted to save you

Paige's POVMy heart somersaults so hard it’s embarrassing. I’ve spent the whole day forcing myself not to think about this guy, and now here he is in the flesh, his hands wrapped around my waist. For one stupid second, I wanted to melt into him. Feel his solid body on my skin, I couldn't forget how badly he had brought me to climax the other day. I caught myself and stiffened.I turned my head, glaring at him.“What the fuck are you doing?” I whispered, his glistening lips just inches away from mine, my thighs clenched. He barely looked at me. His mouth brushed close to my ear. Goosebumps ran all over me. “Just play along.” I frowned. “I’m saving you.”Before I could respond, he looked at Jimmy. Shaking his hand. “Thanks for keeping my girlfriend company.”Jimmy’s eyes widened.“Wait. You’re Knox Tatum?”Knox gave him a brief nod.“Yeah, that's me.” I rolled my eyes, such a show-off. “Damn. I’m a huge fan, man.”“Appreciate it.”Jimmy looked between us, suddenly looking a littl

  • The Hockey Player who Hates me    Chapter 25- Moving on

Paige's POV I stared at the screen.No.There was absolutely no way in hell that, out of all the sports departments, I had been assigned to the hockey team. And worst of all—Knox fucking Tatum. But there it was.Staring right back at me.Absolutely not.I was not going to spend the rest of this semester babying Knox or helping the hockey team- and Mike was there too. And after what happened between Knox and me? There was no way I could spend that much time around him and pretend nothing had happened.I needed distance from Knox.First thing Monday morning, I would speak to Professor Jules and ask if there was any way I could be assigned to another sports team. She wasn’t exactly the kind of professor you could walk into her office and expect to hear, Of course, Paige. Let’s find you something else. She’d probably tell me to suck it up and do my job.But there was no way I could spend the rest of the semester around both of them and pretend nothing had happened.I closed my laptop and

  • The Hockey Player who Hates me    Chapter 24- Law girl era

Paige's POVI could usually hold my own in most situations. I’d never suffered from anxiety, and very little scared me—not even growing up with an alcoholic mother who seemed to love alcohol more than she loved me.But Professor Jules? She scares me. And, somehow, she also had my complete respect.I had slept past my alarm this morning. Normally, the bus ride to campus took thirty minutes. Today, thanks to the roads being an absolute nightmare, it took nearly an hour and a half.By the time the bus finally found a parking spot, I was already fifteen minutes late.Another five minutes passed before I made it across campus and stopped outside Professor Jules’s office, my nerves wound tighter than piano wire.I knocked once before pushing the door open.“Hi, ma’am. I’m so sorry I’m late,” Professor Jules glanced up from her desk.“It's ok Paige, Sit down” she smiled sweetly, pointing to the chair across from her, “I’m so glad you arrived in one piece, the roads were a nightmare today.”I

  • The Hockey Player who Hates me    Chapter 23- Cant Forget about her

Knox's POVI’d had enough experience to know there were different kinds of sex.Sweet. Rough. Reckless.I thought I knew what I liked. I thought I knew how to separate sex from emotion. Then there was Paige. And somehow, one night with her had managed to fuck up every rule I’d ever made for myself.Paige's Image kept running in a loop in my mind. Her flushed cheeks and trembling body, her screaming my name as she came all over my cock. I adjusted my pants discreetly. Paige and I hadn’t seen each other since that morning, but days later, I still couldn’t seem to shake the need for her.“Earth to Knox” Leah snapped her fingers in front of my face. “You there? Or are you already back in the States?” she teased.I forced myself back into the present. It was one of the rare days I wasn't swamped with hockey and she wasn't with her music, so we’d scheduled a catch-up over lunch.“Yeah.” I sipped my coffee“So you’re really not giving me your card?”I looked up from my coffee. Leah was star

  • The Hockey Player who Hates me    Chapter 22- Our Little Secret

Paige’s POVMy entire body froze.I stared at the door, my heart hammering against my ribs.Fuck.My eyes darted around the room.My clothes were on. Nothing looked obviously suspicious. Knox was still in the shower. If Leah walked into this room and he stepped out of that bathroom, I was officially dead.“Paige?” she called again, knocking. “Are you there?”I grabbed my bag and hurried to the door, opening it just enough to slip through before pulling it shut behind me.Leah stood there, worry written all over her face.“Oh my God. Are you okay?” She immediately reached for my arm. “I’m fine,” I said quickly, trying to avoid looking at her.“You scared me. I’m so sorry I didn’t pick up yesterday. My practical ran until evening and—”“I know. I’m okay now.” I gave her my best reassuring smile. She linked her arm through mine as we headed downstairs.“I’m just so tired. I have a deadline coming up for that song I’m writing, remember?”“Yeah, I remember.”“And I have absolutely nothin

  • The Hockey Player who Hates me    Chapter 21- Good girl

Paige's POVFor one suspended heartbeat, I forgot how to breathe.Knox curled his hand around the back of my neck, holding me captive while he plundered my mouth. His lips are hard, rough, and demanding. He doesn't ease in. He devours. He kissed the way we fought. Hard. Explosive.I regained control of my limbs and raised my hands to push him away, but to my surprise, I fisted his hair instead. I kissed him back with the same desperation. I hate that I want him so badly. It had never felt like this with Mike.“Say you want me to stop, and I'll stop.” His whisper ghosted over my lips, its softness a sharp contrast to the force with which he tugged on my hair.“I want—” “What was that Midget?” he murmured. “Fuck you” I hissed. He grins.“I already know what you want, Midget.” He closed his teeth around my bottom lip and tugged hard enough to send another twin frisson of pain and pleasure spiraling through my body. “No need to beg for it.”I finally shoved him off me, “I will never be
