Chapter 5: Living like Mistress

I asked Matthew for a day off, which he immediately agreed to. Killian told me that he bought me an apartment outside the pack's territory which he knew I would like. And he didn't disappoint me. The apartment is simple yet has a warm interior.

The human broker told me that the apartment has all the access to necessities and even the college I am attending. She told me that it is already fully paid and she's asking me when I will move so that she can arrange everything.

In the other's eyes, this is all wrong. Killian is mated Alpha, and he will be a father soon. My pack mates had already assumed that Isabelle was his mate and that they would get married soon. And in their eyes, I will be the thorn between Killian and Isabelle if they will find out about me. I am the wrong one despite being the right one for him. I don't care what they are going to say, but all I know, I am his rightful mate and that he chose Isabelle out of obligation because if she didn't get pregnant in the first place, she probably broke up with her when Killian learned that I am his mate. And if there is someone who has the right to have him, it should be me.

In the garage, Killian has already purchased a car for me. He laughed at me when he saw the truck I was still riding on. He knew it was old and became problematic to me.

"Did you like it?" Killian asked me through the phone while I was on a break after I went and checked on the house.

"Yeah, so much," I replied. "Thank you."

"Nah, don't say that. You deserve it, baby," he said.

Ah, I don't know why my heart suddenly skipped when he called me baby.

"I appreciate it, but still, thank you so much. I've been struggling to save for these," I told Killian honestly.

I heard him chuckling in the other line.

"From now on, I'll spoil you, Rain. I promise you that," he answered, and I couldn't help but swell up with pride.

My mate is generous. And I can't help but dream about the day Killian will leave Isabelle for me. And we'll have a family that we can call our own.

"Hey honey, the food is ready," I heard a female voice in Killian's line, and even if I didn't ask, I knew who owned it.

"Yeah, thanks, honey. I'll be there," Killian answered Isabelle.

I heard the sound of their kissing, and I couldn't help but feel envious of Isabelle. she is with Killian, and they live together. That should be me. She has my role while here I am alone.

"Baby? are you still there? Sorry about that," Killian said apologetically.

"It's fine," I replied, making my voice sounds like it was okay for me, but honestly, I was not. "You should go and eat," I added.

"The food can wait, baby. Let's talk a bit more," Killian whined at me like he was some child.

"That can wait. we have a lot of time when you come here," I told him, laughing softly.

My wolf and I liked how Killian acted when he asked to prolong our conversation. I could even hear her purrs.

"Alright, wait for me on Sunday. I love you," Killian said before ending the call.

I couldn't help but smile. Love? It is new to me, and I don't doubt Killian is saying those words.

"What about Isabelle? Did you forget that he loves her despite not being mate?" my sub-mind asks me, making me speechless.

I dismissed those thoughts and assured myself that soon Killian would leave Isabelle. I hold onto his words, although I doubt them.

To ease my mind, I jump into my new car and drive to college, where I will meet Kaila. We agreed that she'd help me pack my things. It took me two weeks to tell them that I had finally found an apartment and that today was the day I would move.

"Wow," Kaila couldn't believe what is she seeing. "When did you buy this car? I know this is expensive as hell," she added before staring at me.

"Hmmm."

I looked at her innocently.

"What?"

"Where did you get the funds for buying this car, girl?" she asked suspiciously.

"My bank account?" I answered her.

"I know you don't have enough money to buy this car, girly. Don't tell me that-" she paused and looked at me again after inspecting the car.

She also checks me, circling me, trying to find something in my exposed skin.

"Did you meet your mate?" Kaila asked me, her eyes twinkling.

"What made you think that I found my mate?" I asked her, although I was a little bit nervous. Kaila has been mated with my older brother for three years, and she may know much about mated partners.

Maybe I am too obvious, and she already noticed me.

"I don't know. Zander told me they had recently caught the scent of a male werewolf. Although he told me that it's not a rogue and that the wolf stays only in neutral places, the Alpha assumed that he is a male wolf looking for his mate," she explained before hopping inside my car.

It is usual for a male wolf to visit a neutral place to find their mates from time to time. And this is not new to me. Many of my pack mates' female werewolves and co-workers found mates that don't belong in our pack.

"If that wolf is my mate, you should already know it by now, Kaila," I told her, laughing.

"Yeah, I thought so," Kaila said. "You know Rain, your brother, and I wish you to find your mate soon. We only want what's the best for you, sweety," she added.

"Don't worry, my mate will come soon," I lied to her.

How should I tell her I have already found my mate, the Alpha Killian?
