MasukSILVER LAKE PACK
By ten o’clock, Celeste was by herself again after her brothers left for either work or school. Trying not to think about how short her time was before she left, she ran the five miles to the 24-hour gym in the human town.
She spent two hours on weights then took a shower and emptied her locker. Her parents didn’t like her using the pila or human gym. Pilas, a crude name for humans taken from a breed of hairless dogs, were unaware that the nearby city was inhabited by werewolves. Celeste remembered the rumors from high school that it was a cult of some sort. Frequently she would assure her friends and teammates that it was not a cult or strange religious sect.
However, there were times that she thought that it was exactly that.
Females had few rights that were not guaranteed by the federal government of the Werewolf Council. Most families, including her own, opted to send their daughters to the public school in the pila town, Peony Village. This was done for their protection because as a male came into his prime, he could sometimes be unpredictable and in a moment of lust and desire, attack an unmated female.
For the same reason the pack had laws that her father refused to change. One of which was that females could not use the pack gym by themselves. And she, even as the daughter of the Alpha, was forbidden from the gym and training grounds unless one of her brothers was with her.
As was her regular routine, she went to the little café next door and had a quick lunch. Before heading back home, she went to the beauty shop and had her hair cut into a pixie style and donated the long black tresses before running back home for another shower to get the remaining traces of hair off her newly sweaty skin. She was walking out of her bathroom as her mom walked into her room.
Aislinn was quite beautiful and did not look as if she had borne thirteen pups and was approaching her fifth decade. Her brassy auburn hair fell in tight curls down to the middle of her back. Her golden tanned skin was flawless after a lifelong strict skin care routine that she passed on to her daughters. She stood five feet four and had a slender build, with soft brown eyes that were currently focused on her daughter.
“What did you do to your hair?” Aislinn screamed, the deep Irish lilt from her childhood slightly tinging her words.
“I got it cut. I wanted something different,” Celeste said, going into her closet to get dressed.
“But why now?” her mother squealed. “Do you really think that cutting your hair will change the way your mate feels about you?”
Walking back out in yoga pants and an oversized t-shirt, Celeste glared at her mother. “Did you ever consider that I did it because I wanted a haircut? That I wanted something different? That it has nothing to do with my mate? Or that horrible hunt?”
“But your hair. Why? Your mate -"
“Are you not listening?” Celeste yelled. “It has nothing to do with that fucking hunt! I wanted something different! If it won’t affect my mate finding me, why the hell do you care? My looks shouldn’t be why they want to be with me! With me! Not my damned hair!”
Celeste grabbed her gym bag and walked back into her closet to put her dirty clothes in the basket.
“Don’t yeh walk away from me, girl!” Aislinn yelled back, her Irish accent a little thicker.
“Why the fuck not? You’re planning on sending me away with a fucking stranger in just a few days!”
“He’s your mate!”
“Well, who the hell is he?”
“Your mate!”
“A fucking stranger!”
“Celeste Starr Moore!” her father said, walking into her room. “You do not talk to your mother like that!”
“Then you tell me who you’re going to sell me to!”
“We are not selling you,” Malachi said, trying to calm his daughter. He didn’t like her yelling or cursing at her mother. But she was his strong daughter, just as strong as her brothers. Perhaps even stronger. Celeste was the one who could take on the world. And win. The tears that she refused to shed would be his undoing.
“Am I not good enough for two cows and a goat?” she demanded angrily.
“I would never sell any of my daughters.” Malachi walked towards her.
“But you have no problems with them being raped.”
The instant his hand hit her cheek, Malachi regretted it. There was no shock in her face. Her eyes radiated with anger and rage.
“Celeste,” Sirius said walking into the room after clearly overhearing the heated discussion. “Why don’t you pack a bag and come stay with me for a few days. Let everyone cool off. We’ll talk about all of this in a few days.”
Celeste stepped back into her closet and grabbed a change of clothes and the old running shoes, shoving them into the newly emptied gym bag. Then she walked out of her room, down the stairs, and out of her parents’ house for the final time.
“I… I…” Malachi tried to apologize as his shoulder slumped, and then locked eyes with his son , “tell her I’m sorry.”
“I will. But she’s not wrong.” Sirius glared at their father. “Two of my sisters have been raped at the Hunt. And your response both times was to get their bags and make them go with their rapist. Aria is dead. And Sky fears her husband. Still, you wonder why Celeste doesn’t want anything to do with the hunt?”
He turned on his heel and followed his sister’s path. When he got to the circular drive, she was nowhere to be seen. Her scent told him that she went in the direction of his house and hoped that was where she went. As he was getting into his car, his wife’s voice came through the mate link saying Celeste was at their house, crying. His sister was hurt badly. Celeste never cried.
CRYSTAL RIVER PACKTWELVE YEARS LATERAfter twenty-three years of marriage and six children, Celeste and Wyatt still enjoyed spending time with each other. And sneaking away from their duties and children. As they lay curled together on one of the couches in the private movie room on the top floor, a movie played on the screen illuminating the dark room. Their clothes lay strewn across the dark tile floor.Holding back her laughter, she wondered which of her five children that were home would find them. Their second son, Martin, was home from his studies at the college in the neighboring pack, Little Ridge. Jacob was helping with the summer athletic camps that the pack hosted every year.Their daughters, Diana, Electra and Selena, would, no doubt, be in one of two places. The triplets were very different from one another. And very much exactly the same. They all had the endless energy of young Alphas and an unquenchable thirst for knowledge. Which meant that they would either be at th
CRYSTAL RIVER PACKELEVEN YEARS LATERWyatt walked into Anna’s office to find her kicked back at her desk reading a novel. She looked a little embarrassed as she sat the book on her desk. Her job was not to read, but to assist the Luna in any way that was needed. Being caught by the Alpha reading a spicy romance novel made it worse.“The Luna is not feeling well,” the Omega whispered. “My typing was too loud for her. So, I was told to go to the library and find something quiet to read.”He chuckled and shook his head as he motioned to the sitting room door. “I assume she’s in there?”“Yes, Alpha,” she answered, starting to get up.“Why don’t you take the rest of the day off? I’m going to take her upstairs.”“Thank you, Alpha.” Anna replied as she gathered her bag and prepared to leave.“And Anna?” pausing at the door, he looked back at the woman gathering her belongings. “Destini Martin is not only my mom’s favorite author, but a close friend. Take the book. I’m sure we have at least
CRYSTAL RIVER PACKBy Tuesday morning, Celeste was coming out of her heat. This angered Angel in a way that neither had anticipated. Wyatt woke up to a growling she-wolf in the bed. He found himself face to face with a large silvery white wolf.“My love, what is wrong?” Wyatt asked as she bared her teeth, growling even louder. Wyatt rolled until he was over her. He shifted as he moved, and Demon held her to the bed with his large paw.You are my mate.I’m not going to submit to you.I don’t want you to. We want equals. Not slaves.Weakling.SILENCE! Do not force me to make you submit. He warned and snapped his teeth at her. Although she did not submit, she stopped struggling against him. He laid down, keeping her beneath his large black fur covered body.Shift. He commanded softly. She growled, letting him know that she would not obey. He snapped at her and when she did not stop, he clamped down on her shoulder. The more she fought, the harder he bit her. His teeth broke her skin, a
CRYSTAL RIVER PACKThe party had gone on well into the early morning hours. There was dancing, plenty of food and lots of drinks. After the formal ceremony, everyone changed into casual clothes. At midnight, there was a run through the woods and afterwards, everyone began making their way back to their cabins or homes.Breakfast was served late because most everyone was still asleep at sunrise. Wyatt and Celeste were still in bed as everyone began moving around. She lay on her stomach as he applied lotion to the new pack crest tattooed on her back.“This is one of my favorites,” he said softly.“Because it means that I belong to you?” she stiffened a little at the thought of being a possession.“Because it means that I belong to you,” he corrected next to her ear. “That we belong to each other.”“I like that too,” she purred.“We belong to each other,” he said as he trailed kisses down her back, “and the pack.”The door opened and Teuf made his way to the bed. “You have a house full o
CRYSTAL RIVER PACK“Hi, excuse me,” the priestess, Emmeline, tapped Wyatt on the shoulder. “I hate to interrupt, but we have a few things to do before you get a little too lovey dovey.” Her official robes and stole indicating her position as the pack priestess rustled as she moved her hands slightly to indicate the altar behind her. “You know,” she shrugged, “the actual ceremony that follows the blessings. Ring any bells?”Celeste tried to step away but found herself anchored to his side. The priestess gave a little chuckle and shook her head.“For those of you who don’t know, this day has been in the making for ten years. And in fact, exactly ten years.” Emmeline explained, “I fear that my Alpha believes that if he lets go, she will disappear. I have seen the way she looks at you. She will not disappear.”Wyatt pressed a kiss to her hair. “I’m not risking it,” he said softly.“Alpha Celeste, do you come to this pack of your own free will?” the priestess asked.“I do.”“And do you joi
CRYSTAL RIVER PACKThe carriage door opened, and Celeste turned to see Sirius and James waiting to help her down. Malachi stepped down and out of the way as the other two Alphas offered their hands. Gently, the two men lifted her up and sat her on the ground. She hugged Alpha James who wore his full-dress blues with his impressive rack of ribbons and medals. She then hugged her brother who wore a black suit with the Silver Lake Pack Crest on the left breast.Celeste took her father’s offered arm, and he escorted her down the aisle. They went through the archway, and she looked towards the altar and her breath was caught in her throat. Standing at the top of the stairs, waiting for her, was Wyatt in his dress whites. Oh, dear goddess, he looked magnificent. He also had an impressive rack of ribbons and medals. Not as impressive as the general, but still quite a bit for only serving for 12 years. As they walked down the aisle, people on either side rose to stand as she passed. Fairy lig
