LIA’S POV

“James!” I yell as I realise the sound is coming from further into the woods.

My heart skips, then slams back in motion and I don’t think as I rush forward, my mind screaming. I can’t lose James, not him too. I am more than certain that he had to watch his mama die. My heart breaks for the little boy, how scared he must have been.

As I walk further into the darkness, every nerve in my body goes on high alert as I feel an odd chill in my bones. I never come to this part of the woods, as it has always given me the creeps and it isn’t any different.

I stumble on a root, almost falling in my face. I hold myself together, breathing heavy as I try to navigate my way in the dark. The moon has been completely covered by the cloud and without any wolf powers, I can barely see more than a few steps ahead. But if James is here,  he would be even more terrified. My eyes catch something on the ground in front of me.

“Oh no.” It is blood. And then I see him, a figure laying on the ground a few steps ahead.

“James!” I run towards him, my panic fueling my movement, but it's not until I’m standing directly in front of the figure that I realise that it is bigger than James’, very much bigger.

I am staring at a fully grown man, a very naked grown man with surprisingly toned skin that even the darkness can’t hide. He looks a little larger than anyone I’ve ever met, lying unmoving on the ground, his face directly in the dirt, with a muscular back that is halfway covered by long black hair. I have never seen anyone like this in the pack before.

I feel blood rush to my cheeks and I avert my eyes.

That is when I notice the source of the blood. On his leg, or what’s left of it is a huge gash, no, not a gash. It looks like someone tried to tear his leg off completely. The blood flows from the top of his thigh to his ankle.

Bile rushes up my throat. I can clearly see his bone! And it doesn’t look like he is healing.

I take a shaky step forward.

Is he dead?

I look around but there’s no one else here. Well, I guess that’s a good thing. Lesser chances of me getting murdered, too.

Terror claws at my heart, my chest tightening as I move back. My mind imagines different scenarios of the situation James could be in at this very moment, each one worse than the last, with no one to protect him, to hold his hand and tell him everything will be alright. I should run.

But I hesitate, almost like my body refusing to move. It feels completely wrong to leave this strange man lying helplessly here without doing anything.

I move closer to him, my steps slow, trying to check for movement. If I don’t know who he is, that means he is part of the people who did this to my pack.

Suddenly, I feel the urge to end him myself, to avenge the death of James’s mother and everyone else whose lives have been taken away. To avenge every pain, every tear that has been brought to my pack. He is as helpless as any wolf can ever be, even more than I. I can take him before he can even lift a finger, but every bone in my body screams no.

My skin tightens as I move in to nudge him, to check for any sign of life. However, the moment the tip of my finger comes in contact with his shoulder, sparks explode. That is what it feels like. I fall backwards, as if pushed by an unknown force, but it is only my fear. My ass hits the dirt hard as I fall to the ground and I feel something tear into my leg. But I don't have the time to dwell on the pain, not when my eyes are transfixed on what is in front of me.

I let out a loud gasp, my features contorting in horror at the scene. I am familiar with the sounds of bones snapping when a werewolf transforms, but this is very different.

Coming into the woods was a terrible mistake.

  • The Hybrid    Almost

CLINT’S POV I have fought men who can tear an alpha wolf in half. Every animal in these woods fears me. And she called me a coward. My fingers curl into fists as I walk down the small steps. Seeing the corpses of these rogues fuels my anger. How can she refuse to see reason? I picture her sitting on the bed as she did earlier, like she is waiting for permission to simply exist, shoulders drawn, and her eyes fixed on my face but never my eyes. She didn’t move at first, not really, and for a minute, I convinced myself that I would bring her peace, make her feel safe. What a joke. I recall the moment I told her to leave, the hurt crept into her eyes, the hope I’d see in them after she kissed me vanishing. And right then, every instinct in me screamed at me to move across the room, pull her into my arms, and assure her that everything will be alright. But when has anything ever been alright? She had exploded, all timidness disappearing as she charged towards me, her red hair flying

  • The Hybrid    The Pull Between Us

LIA’S POV I reel back in shock from his revelation. All the words I thought I wanted to say vanished. That can’t be possible. I don’t even have a wolf. They said someone like me could never have a mate. “I do not feel fear,” he says quietly. “It’s the opposite, actually. But the mere thought of something happening to you terrifies me. I want to kill every person who has ever hurt you and the last thing I want is to keep you by my side only to get you killed. My life is no place for you.” I can only watch him, speechless. If what he’s saying is true, everything I’ve felt begins to make sense. The need, one that has never existed before, how he occupies my thoughts even when he is not close. I have heard a lot of stories about the joy and pleasure of finding one's mate. Your other half, someone destined to be your own person. I used to dream of the day I would meet my own person, even though I knew it was something I would never have. But now I do. And he doesn’t want me. “Are you

  • The Hybrid    Open Hearts

LIA’S POV He pulls his hand away from mine, and the sound of the chair moving against the floor fills the air as he rises to his feet. He turns away from me and starts pacing. My eyes follow his movement, confused by his behaviour. “Did I say something wrong?” I ask. He stops pacing and turns back to me. A strange emotion is etched on his face as he drags a hand through his hair. “You can’t keep staying here.” He says. “They’ll come back. It’s too dangerous out here.” I know he is worried for my safety, but I can keep the hurt from showing on my face.He pulls his hand away from mine, and the sound of the chair moving against the floor fills the air as he rises to his feet. • The Hybrid    Guilt

LIA’S POV I can’t help the gasp that escapes and I feel a wave of panic begin to hit. Clint rushes towards the cottage, not giving me the opportunity to dwell on the sight. He crosses over the threshold, reacting with nothing more than a brief pause to the broken-down door. He walks straight to the bedroom, and he places me on the bed every so gently. Immediately, he turns around towards the door. My heart is racing, and I’m still not over the scene outside. The thought of being left alone in here terrifies me, but worst of all, I don’t want Clint to leave my sight, not yet. I need to keep seeing him, just for a few more minutes, till I can convince my mind that he is safe. “Don’t leave,” I whisper. He freezes in front of the door, his hand still on the handle. He stays that way for a few more seconds, and the only thing I can see is his back, stiff as ever. He locks the door and slowly turns to me. I stare into those green eyes, searching, trying to read what he’s thinking. But h

  • The Hybrid    The Kiss

LIA’S POV I hesitate for only a brief second, and then I throw all thoughts to the wind and close the distance between us. I hear his sharp intake of breath as my lips touch his, and I almost withdraw. What am I thinking? The fact is, I am not thinking much. My emotions are a jumbled mess inside my head, at the top of it all is what I felt when I saw him. Pure fear, not for myself but at the thought that I would never see him again. My feelings for him had snuck in when I least expected it and I didn’t realise the extent of it till today. Seeing him now, after everything, and I can’t hold it in anymore, and I don’t want to. How do I communicate the relief I felt when he appeared? How can I let him know how important he is to me? How can I communicate the burning urge to be in his arms? Need burns through my veins, a need that can only be quenched by one person. My hand curls around his neck, my eyes shut close as my fingers enter his long, thick hair, exploring as I pull him closer

  • The Hybrid    Under The Moonlight

CLINT’S POV It feels like my leg is frozen in place. I let out a stream of curses as I watch the wolf carrying Lia run out of sight. Davi Smith walks in front of me, his crossbow hanging casually from his hand. “I must say, I am rather impressed by this new weapon, Clint.” He taunts, stupid enough to get closer. “Puts you right in your place, doesn’t it?” I can’t move yet, but whatever Lia had done to my body is still working because I feel my leg begin to reject the poison and heal itself. “I’m to blame for sparing your life; if not, you’d be too dead to play hunting dog for whomever your master is.” He chuckles making the scar on his face look even uglier. “I will have so much pleasure breaking you.” I have to make my wound to heal faster, and try to keep him talking, that way, he won’t see his death coming. “Come a little closer, and repeat what you said about breaking me.” I sneer. “No, Clint,” He replies, sounding amused. “I would like to get closer to your little mate,
