I awake to Wan standing over me in the bedroom. Erick and Angie are not in the room; it is only the two of us. I try to focus on Wan. “What is happening to me?” I ask him meekly.

“It is hard to explain, but I will try to explain it in the bluntest way possible. Kate, we are an extraordinary breed of wolves. That is why they are so afraid of you. You represent a wolf that cannot be taken down,” Wan says.
