LOGINSlowly I woke up the next morning in the most dignified position. Butt naked, half on the couch, half dangling off, face down with my ass up in the air. Huh. Did my mysterious nighttime ravager stop by again? Sluggishly I drag myself upstairs to start my day. The shower was a pleasant surprise. Impressively fast the shower was steaming hot with good water pressure. Not sure how long the heat would last, I washed and rinsed everything. The water was still hot, so I just stood under it, let it massage my back. After about half an hour I was bored. Wistfully I turned off the still hot water and climbed out. Joyfully I wrapped myself in the towel I had left on the warmer. Now I knew the definition of bliss. I brushed out my hair then headed back downstairs in only the fluffy towel and my bigfoot slippers.
Listening to some guy talk about bodies in Lady Bird Lake I assembled breakfast. Pulling out eggs, cheese, and cubed ham from the fridge I thought back to my shadow person encounter. It had felt so real. But surely it was just a result of me watching that show on shadow people, right? Whisking my breakfast mixture, I wondered if I could get a repeat if I watched that episode again. While I was stirring the eggs, my phone dinged with a text message.
My best friend Carissa was checking in on me. Not surprising since she recommended this place.
Carissa: How’d you sleep?
Me: It was blissful
Carissa: See! I told you. You just needed a vacay!
Me: Yeah, Yeah, Yeah. Hey, have you ever had weird dreams here?
Carissa: ?????
I had to delay answering her to stir the eggs to keep them from sticking. The toast popped at the same time as I was plating the eggs. Just as I sat down with my plate and a watermelon drink, my phone rang. Ugh. I shouldn’t have asked until after I ate. Answering the phone, I hoped I could keep the conversation short.
“What kind of dreams Viv?” My best friend’s demanding voice flowed through the speaker. Quickly I filled her in on my x rated dream adventure. While she was sputtering and trying to speak, I scooped some eggs on my toast and took a bite. By the time I had to speak, I’d eaten most of my breakfast. I took a big swig of the fruit drink before I answered her question.
“All I know is that I watched some creepy show about shadow people. Then I had an encounter with one.” I snuck in another bite while she awwwwed.
“That has never happened to me! I’ve stayed in that place too.” Her mouth might have been quiet, but I could hear the wheels in her mind turning. “OK. It’s decided. I’ll be there after work tonight! I gotta go pack. See you around seven. We can grab dinner. Oh, we should go wherever you went last night. Let’s recreate everything ok? Love you!”
She hung up without me saying a word. Yep, that’s about how I expected it to go. Given she only lived two hours away we had planned on getting together while I was here anyways. Just figured it would be over the weekend. Shaking my head I finished my breakfast. Once my stomach was happy, I cleaned the kitchen up.
Done with cleaning I sprawled out on the couch still only clad in my fluffy towel. Noticing a website on the fruity drinks stocked in the fridge I reached for my laptop.
“Should have been more careful with the sour cream.” Kensington added helpfully. The imps high fived. I both loved and hated them right now. Rolling my eyes, we looked at the test on the counter. The words on the little screen caused the air to leave my lungs. I felt a little woozy. Caspian tightened his hold on me as we stared at it together. My hand clenched to his on my stomach. I felt my jaw go slack. No idea what was going on with the demon behind me. All I could see was that one word on the screen. That one word that changed everything.PREGNANT“Breath, Querida.” His velvet smooth voice was huskier than normal. Undoubtedly, he was feeling more emotions than me. I was just a forty year old woman pregnant by my demon lover. He was about to lose his very identity. Concern for him made me push past my fear to turn to look at him.“Are you ok?” I asked concerned, looking him over to see if anything was different. My hands randomly touching him. He felt and looked like he always had.
The imps got an oops look then fled with the trollies. Lucky demons. Caspian and I froze, scared to make a move in case it startled the maras across from us. Lena was looking at Bodhi with wide blue eyes shimmering with unshed tears. Her lips trembled on her pale face. Bodhi was searching her face for a clue. After what seemed to be an eternity, the imps popped back in. This time wearing matching leggings and hoodies with fake babies strapped to their fronts. They stood in the doorway with their hands fisted on their hips. I had to bit my lip to keep from laughing at how absurd they looked. Kerrigan shot me a look that caused a tingle of fear to shoot down my spine.“Yes. You got her prego.” Kensington announced to the shell shocked incubus. Both the imps looked to our untouched dessert plates. “Is the fruit making you nauseous?”Lena gave a tiny shake of her blonde head. I cleared my throat and stood up. “Perhaps we should give them a moment.”Caspian stood with me. He took my hand a
All the nonhumans snickered. As the imps flitted around the kitchen, I learned a bit more about them. They had come out of the primordial ooze in the same batch of imps. The maras that they had been assigned to were friends, so their bond strengthen. Every few centuries, they update their names. Always choosing ones that were similar.I looked at Caspian. “Do you change your name too?” He nodded. “Ohhhh! What was it?”He smiled at me. Damn tingle shot through me. Apparently, I was going to be horny and emotional today. I shrugged at his knowing look. Lena snickered too. Guess she could sense it too. “My original name is in a tongue a human can’t speak. Caspian is the closest version of it. I did however think about changing it after it was used in books.”Lena snickered again. I joined her since I knew which books he was referring to. “Don’t you want to be a prince?”“No.” He gave me a sultry look. “I’d rather be a butler.”Tingle. Oh, he was hot. The perfect Derek Bourbon. Definitely
I tried to hide my smirk. Pretty sure I failed. Exchanging looks with Caspian, I shrugged. No reason not to tell the mara what the imps had been up to. “They tried to make him think he was insane.”“What?” She frowned, still sniffling a bit. Her eyes bounced between us in confusion.“Yeah.” I raised my eyebrows playfully then told her the story as I know it. Lena’s eyes got huge as I described seeing their tornado in the reflection of the glass. Then she snorted.“Yep. That sounds like imps.” She shook her head as she sipped on her smoothie. “At least they weren’t starting a sex cult this time.”The maras snickered. I shook my head. Looking softly at Lena, I put my hand on her shoulder. “Are you sure you’re pregnant? Kerrigan is convinced I am too. Despite the test saying otherwise.”Lena shook her head. “Kensington said I was. I just took them at their word. They are never wrong.”Her and Caspian exchanged looks. I suspected it was about me. Again, I rubbed my rounded belly. “Not a d
Behind me, Caspian made a sputtering noise. I shot him a shush look as I pulled Lena tight against me. She buried her head in my shoulder, still sniffling. A pregnant Succubus. How crazy is that?“Honey, are you sure?” I asked as I rubbed her back soothingly. I felt her nod before she lifted her head. “Forgive my ignorance, but how does a mara get pregnant?”The room shimmered. When it cleared standing in front of us was a creature that strongly resembled Kerrigan, except their hairs snakes were more like blue flames instead of red. On their neck was a white tattoo of a kitten ready to pounce. Their features both feminine and masculine depending on the angle. They had obviously taken a page out of Kerrigan’s book. Pink scrubs with kittens clad their body while an adorable fake baby was swaddled to their front. I couldn’t stop staring. Hoped that wasn’t rude.“She let an eggplant go spelunking during the meteor shower.” The new imp that was probably Kensington answered. Their black eye
“There was in interloper!” They screamed as Caspian lowered his hand from their mouth. Their legs still flying around as they were held off the ground. “This is my turf!”I held up my hands in a placating fashion. “It was just a mix up. She won’t be back. I promise.”At my words, they stopped fighting. But narrowed their eyes at me. Even the fire snakes glared. “She better not be.”Then they shimmered out. Caspian stumbled a step as he was suddenly holding on to nothing. He shook his head. “No good can come from that.”“Are they really that possessive?” I asked as Caspian pulled me to him. He laced our hands between our chests. Gently he leaned down to kiss my mouth.“Do not piss off an imp.” He warned. Then turned us to go back outside to finish our breakfast. Shaking my head I sat down to eat the fruit. The omelets would be cold now. As I reached for my coffee, I noticed it was the non-caffeinated one. Slack jawed I turned to the demon.“How?” I asked in shock. He just shook his he
