Ch. 9 "Anger, Pain, Broken!"

Ouch!

 

I tried to move his hand off my mouth and waist. I could feel his hand tighten around my waist. So, I tried one more time to move my head.

My mouth was empty, and I didn't feel his hand on my mouth. But I felt his hand wrapping tighter and tighter around my waist.

 

I need to stop him, but he isn't looking at me.

Hayes was staring at the same spot where Jimmy walked.

It's like he is trans, and he's here but not.

 

I could hear the same mumbles he was saying before,

mine, mate, and something else I can't understand.

 

I had to do something, so I did what I could.

"Please let me go!" You are hurting me, Hayes."

I begged him by rubbing his cheeks with my hand.

That's when he stared at me, and he told me...

 

Gracie P.O.V.

 

After Hayes told me I would never be his girl and something to do with mate, better not be with other males!" I heard him say.

What in the world is he talking about?

What a mate! And what males?

 

I don't see them knocking on my door every night. I was so confused.

God, but you like him, and you want to be with him," I heard my inner voice telling me.

 

I wanted to tell my inner voice to shut the hell up, but I just ignored it and rolled my eyes. I gasped when he let me go. But he slammed my back into the wall and was in my face.

 

"Listen to me, pest; I will never want to be with you!" Do you understand me!'' He growled.

 

I was so scared I could not speak, so I nodded. But that wasn't enough, and he had his hand wrapped around my throat, but not in a tight grip.

 

"Do. You. Understand." He said, closer to my face.

"Yes," I told him with a frightened voice.

 

"What? I can't hear you?" He said in a wave of anger in his voice.

 

"Yes," I said, understanding, speaking louder. But I was still scared of what he would do to me. So, I gave him what he wanted. But I thought he would say something different about our kiss, and I didn't know he would be cruel and mean about it.

 

"Good, that's my good pest," he said with a smirk.

 

He still had me in his grip with his hand wrapped around my neck.

"Look at me!" He ordered me. But I kept my head down and my eyes looking at the ground.

I kept quiet.

He didn't like that. So, he...

I gasped. When I looked inside his dark and empty eyes. I didn't see the sweet guy everyone loves. Instead, I saw the guy who wanted to hurt me and his sinister smile on his lips.

 

He started squeezing tighter around my neck.

Oh, no. I have to stop him before...

 

"Please. I tried to say when taking breaths.

"Let me go; you're hurting me," I told him, trying to pull off his hand around my throat.

 

I didn't want to look up, but he said something, and I had to.

"Look at me!" When I am talking." He demanded in a harsh voice, staring down at me.

 

I started shaking. I felt my body shrive, trying to stop it, but I was so scared. Finally, when I felt him move, I flinched away. I was afraid he was going to hit me.

 

That was when he pulled back with his hand still wrapped around my throat, but not too tight. He was staring down at me with no emotion. He was blank, just staring at me.

At first, I thought he was going to stop what he was doing and stop hurting me. But when I saw his face change back to his vicious, evil, and cruel self again. I knew he wasn't going to change.

So, I knew I had to get away from him before he did something awful to me, and it wasn't going to be good.

I was about to take my knee and slam it up and hit him in his groin. That would be my escape, and I took it and ran.

But that is not what happened. Instead, I was still in his tight grip around my neck, and I was still slammed into the wall and him on top of me. I could not move, and I tried to lift my knee and slammed it in his crotch.

 

That is when I heard voices walking closer down the hall.

" Do you think she is hiding because of Hayes?" I heard a familiar voice. But when I saw it was Jade and Erin, our new roommates and friends. She started hanging out with Jade and me yesterday when we moved into the apartment.

 

"Maybe, but I know my brother can be an asshole, but I don't think he would hurt her?" Jade tells Erin.

"Well, I hope not," Erin said. But what if he does, Jade?" I don't know why he has to be an asshole to her."

I mean, when I got here and met you guys, and when I saw how he acts around her."

" At first, I thought he was teasing her, but now I could see he was not. There are more." Right now, I am scared he got her, and he did something awful to her by now." Erin said with concern in her voice.

Ahh, thanks, Erin, I thought with tears in my eyes and a small smile. But it was already gone when Hayes stared down at me with a weird and sinister expression. He wasn't saying anything or doing anything to either.

He stood in front of me, staring at me with a weird look in his eyes.

So, she is right; he did hurt me, but only with the words that spilled out of his mouth.

 

"Oh, my brother, he can be weird at times, but you're right. We need to know why he is so angry and hates Gracie. I mean, it's ridiculous how he treats her."

 

"It's just weird how he is with her!" Erin said. I wonder why he hates me, I thought, but then again, I am in his arms — well, his grip, with his hand wrapped around my neck. If I could open up my mouth and yell out and tell my friends, I am here and help me. When I thought about doing it. Hayes' voice stopped me.

 

"Don't you think about saying anything." He said. His hand was wrapped around my neck and was now covering my mouth, with him right up close to my face.

 

I didn't even try to say one word. I just stood there and stared into his cruel, empty, frightened eyes.

 

"Yeah, I know I see it. It's like he got a thing for her, but it's more Erin?" I mean, do you think he already knows?" Jade asked her.

 

Oh, yeah, could he already be?" Erin said, but she didn't get to finish when they heard someone yell on the other side of the hall.

 

"Oh, that Bryan, I've got to run," Erin said with her voice cut out. It sounded like she was nervous and happy. I am glad she found a sweet guy.

"Yeah, okay, I'll see you later. I'll text Gracie to see if she wants pizza tonight to watch the True Blood all-night N*****x series.

 

"Damn! Eric is one sexy big and tall vampire." I heard Erin say. Man, what would I do too-" Erin! You're dating Bryan, she told her, giggling.

 

"Yeah, I know, but get a chance with Eric, damn," Erin said.

 

"Oh God, you're right, but anyway, we get pizza, and we all can watch our man tonight!" Jade said, laughing.

I am so glad I got wonderful friends I could call sisters.

 

"Okay, I've got to run; Bryan is still waiting for me!"

I heard her say, walking past Hayes and Hayes in the dark corner.

Okay, see you later, have fun." Jade said back, and I heard a slight smug laugh.

Bye!" Erin said, shaking her head. I saw her and wanted to yell out, "Help me! I am here!" But I looked at the look Hayes was giving me. I stayed quiet.

 

Now that Erin and Jade had left. It felt like hours standing there in the dark hallway with my back on the wall, with his body closed off so no one could see me.

 

I heard Hayes mumble under his breath. I knew we were alone once again in the dark, cold hallway of middle school.

I felt angry coming off his body. But I knew it was coming. So, I closed my eyes and waited for his anger and the pain,

I was terrified and broken, wondering what the guy would do to me. The one guy I always thought would love me and protect me.

The guy I've been in love with since middle school, all the way through high school. He was finally going to break me like he said he would once he got me alone again.

 

I took a deep breath and held it in until I felt the first hit of pain...
