—Two Years Later—

"I told you I don't want to eat vegetable soup!" Zendaya screamed, as she violently shoved the bowl away. The hot liquid splattered across the table, scalding Cyan’s hand.

Cyan squeezed her eyes shut against the stinging pain. When she opened them, she found Zendaya staring back at her—defiant and cold. There was no remorse in her niece’s eyes, not even an apology. Instead, she looked proud of the damage she had caused.

Two years…

It had been two years since she married Zach, yet in all that time, nothing had changed in the way the father and daughter treated her. Zendaya’s animosity remained as sharp as ever, while Zach remained a wall of ice. But she stayed. She endured because she had to, even though she was exhausted down to her very soul.

She had tried to defy her father's wishes once, but that same day, Don Sebastian had her parents intercepted to be thrown in jail. She soon discovered that beyond her father’s initial gambling debt, he had continued to borrow money throughout Zach and Chloe’s marriage. He was still addicted to gambling, giving Zach’s grandfather the ultimate leverage to crush them.

If it were up to her, she would have let her father rot in prison to learn his lesson. But her mother had begged for her help. Cyan wasn't heartless enough to turn her back on the people who gave her life.

"What happened here?" Zach’s frigid voice cut through her thoughts.

"It’s her fault, Daddy! She’s forcing me to eat vegetable soup even though I don't want it!" Zendaya complained, immediately playing the victim.

Cyan said nothing. She knelt down to clean the mess on the floor, picking up the shards of the broken bowl. Zendaya had just recovered from a fever, and Cyan had prepared a nutritious meal to help her regain her strength.

But she offered no explanation. She didn't bother to scold Zendaya in front of Zach, it would only lead to another argument she was destined to lose.

She was his wife on paper and had been Zendaya’s mother figure for two years, but she was never treated with the respect she deserved. In this house, she had no rights. To them, she was nothing more than an unwanted substitute.

Once she returned to the table, Zach let out a long, heavy sigh before looking at her. "You’ve been in this house for two years, and you still don't know how to properly care for my daughter. You truly can't do anything right in this home," he said coldly before taking his seat.

"I'm sorry," was all she could manage as she began to serve them.

Even though they had a full staff of maids, Cyan handled their needs personally. Zach insisted on it, claiming that was how Chloe did things when she was alive. Since she had taken her sister's place, he expected her to fulfill every one of her sister's roles.

Her life had changed completely the moment she said "I do." She had abandoned her glamorous career to become a full-time housewife for a family that despised her. Whenever she looked in the mirror, she no longer recognized the woman staring back at her.

She startled as the two of them stood up. She quickly composed herself to follow them out, but Zendaya turned around, her eyes narrowing with spite.

"You're not going with us today. Aunt Laureen is coming, and she and Daddy will be the ones taking me to school."

Cyan swallowed hard, trying to dislodge the lump in her throat. Throughout the two years of her marriage, Laureen had always been there, hovering by Zach’s side. She was her late sister’s best friend, but now, she had essentially become Zach’s mistress in all but name.

Before Cyan could respond, Laureen’s melodic voice rang through the living room, calling out for Zendaya.

"Zendaya..."

The little girl’s eyes lit up instantly as she ran to embrace the woman. "I missed you, Aunt Laureen! Did you buy me a gift?"

Laureen smiled sweetly. "Of course I did, sweetie!" she said, handing Zendaya a shopping bag before turning her attention to Zach.

"Hey, I’m sorry if it took me a while to get back?" she said affectionately, sliding her arm through Zach’s. Cyan did not miss the mocking, triumphant glint in Laureen’s eyes as they landed on her.

"It’s okay, as long as you enjoyed your vacation," Zach replied, leaning down to kiss the top of Laureen's head.

Cyan looked away, her eyes stinging with unshed tears. The feelings she had for Zach in her youth had resurfaced since they began living together. They hadn't just returned; they had deepened, despite the frostiness of his heart.

He barely let her get near him. He avoided her as if she carried a contagious disease. Once, she had asked him why he hated her so much. After all, it wasn't her fault—she hadn't asked for this forced marriage—but Zach never gave her a straight answer.

"Maybe next time the three of us should go together. Would you like that, Zendaya?" Laureen asked Zendaya.

Zendaya’s face brightened. "Of course!"

The reason she loved Aunt Laureen so much was that Laureen knew exactly how to make her happy. She was the polar opposite of Aunt Cyan. Cyan was strict, which made Zendaya resent her. Aunt Laureen, on the other hand, let her do whatever she wanted and gave her everything she asked for—just like her mommy used to do.

"Let’s go. Zendaya will be late for school," Zach urged, leading Laureen toward the door.

Zendaya took Laureen’s hand, and the woman remained clung to Zach’s arm. The three of them walked out of the mansion looking like a perfect family, while Cyan remained behind, a mere shadow in the corner.

She took a deep breath to ease the heaviness in her chest. She wanted to laugh at her own expense. This was a scene she witnessed almost every day, yet why did it feel like she could never get used to it?

"Are you sure Cyan is really okay with our relationship, Zach? What if one day she suddenly snaps and tries to ruin me?" Laureen asked, her voice tinged with a delicate layer of fear.

Zach shifted his gaze from the road to the woman beside him. She was always like this whenever she visits the mansion. A gentle smile touched his lips.

"Don't worry. Cyan won't do anything to harm you, Laureen," he said with absolute certainty.

In two years, he had never heard a single complaint from Cyan regarding his relationship with Laureen. Their only friction came from how to handle his daughter.

Cyan was strict, while he and Laureen preferred to spoil Zendaya. He had grown up under his grandfather’s thumb, where every move was controlled. If he did anything the old man disliked, he was scolded and punished.

That was the one thing he refused to let Zendaya experience. He wanted her to be free, unlike him. In that regard, he and Laureen were perfectly aligned. His daughter adored Laureen, and if it weren't for his grandfather, Cyan would have been out of their lives a long ago.

To him, Laureen was the much better choice to be Zendaya’s mother. He felt much more at peace whenever she was with them…

Zach was being held by security guards as Kirk’s car, with Cyan inside, sped away."We’re going to have to take you to the station first, Sir—"One of the guards didn't even get to finish his sentence before Zach slammed his forehead into the man’s face. He seized the moment of shock to wrench one arm free. Moving with lightning speed, he punched another guard. As the third guard tried to step in, Zach landed a swift kick and a punch, then sprinted to his car and floored the accelerator..."Well? Did you get the job done?" Laureen asked Allen when he called her."We have a problem, Ma'am."Laureen sat up straight, her brow furrowing. "What do you mean?""Earlier, while I was heading to Mr. Anderson’s car, I ran into Mr. Samaniego unexpectedly...""And?""I—I wasn't able to carry out the plan.""What?!" Laureen stood up abruptly. "Didn't I tell you I wanted this job to be perfect? What have you done, Allen? Why couldn't you properly execute what I asked of you?!"She ran her hand throu

Zach was about to walk past the man when a thought struck him. If it were just Kirk, he wouldn't care what happened to the man. But what if Cyan was getting in that car?Damn it!Instead of proceeding to the elevator, he turned back toward the man who was tampering with Kirk’s vehicle. What made him look even more suspicious were the black gloves he wore on both hands."What are you doing?" Zach asked coldly. The man looked up, momentarily startled by Zach’s sudden appearance. However, the shock was brief, and he faced Zach with a surge of misplaced confidence. "What’s it to you? This is my car; I’ll do whatever I want with it."Zach let out a sarcastic laugh. "I know the owner of this car, which means you're lying. What are you planning to do to it?" he said, tilting his cap up slightly. The man froze when he saw Zach’s face. Based on the flicker of recognition in his eyes, he clearly knew who Zach was. Before Zach could even react, the man bolted, running away so fast he even left h

"What plane is she taking? We need to sabotage the flight so that Zach never sees her again," Laureen stated, her voice cold and emphatic. She used to think she could drive Cyan away just by subtly insulting her and wounding her pride. She never imagined that by leaving, Cyan would take Zach’s affection along with her.Laureen would never allow anyone else to claim Zach’s devotion. From the moment she first laid eyes on him, she knew that man belonged to her."Isn't that too dangerous, Ma'am? She’s flying with Dimicri Airlines. We know how high their security is; we can't just break into their system."Laureen fell silent for a moment, racking her brain for a solution. A few seconds later, a sinister smirk crossed her face. "Then we won't let her reach the airport. We need to finish her off while she's on her way there, Allen," she said chillingly.Allen was a loyal employee of her family. He did whatever she ordered in exchange for his freedom. He was wanted by the authorities, but b

"So? What's your next move? You said it yourself—you can't even get inside the building now because Cyan had you banned," Tyrone asked after he finished tending to Zach’s minor wounds."That's just the building. There’s no rule saying I can't be outside. I’ll just wait for her there. I’m sure Cyan has to go out eventually.""Don't you think Cyan will find that a bit... creepy?"Zach took a deep breath before shaking his head. "Do I have a choice?"Tyrone let out a heavy sigh of his own. "You’re right. Good luck, dude. I hope you can get Cyan back within those three days."Remembering the deadline his grandfather had imposed, Zach felt a surge of anger, his eyes darkening. That old hag was probably enjoying this punishment.Strictly speaking, it wasn’t even his fault. It wasn't his fault he was born to a poor father. His grandfather's punishment was crossing the line, yet he was powerless to stop it. He felt like a puppet, with his grandfather holding the strings, jerking him in whatev

"What the hell happened, Zach?!" Tyrone exclaimed in shock when Zach arrived at his office after coming from Cyan’s condominium.Zach let out a heavy sigh and sank onto the sofa. Tyrone immediately buzzed his secretary to bring a first aid kit."I’m asking you, Samaniego. I thought you were going there to talk things out properly with your wife? Why did you come back here looking like you went looking for a street fight?" Tyrone asked, his brow furrowed."I did just get into a fight, dude," Zach answered irritably."What the fúck? Who did you scrap with?"Zach snatched the ice pack the secretary handed him and leaned back. "Cyan’s attorney.""Why did you pick a fight with him? My advice earlier was to talk to Cyan calmly, not start a brawl.""That bastard kissed my wife, Saavedra! Did you expect me to just smile and talk to them like nothing happened?" Zach said sarcastically. He was certain that if Tyrone were in his shoes, he would have done the exact same thing. Who would be happy

Zach seemed to snap back to his senses, realizing what he had done. His lips parted as he looked at her. "I'm sorry. I didn't mean to—""Mean what? To insult me? Don't even bother apologizing, Zach. I don't need it. Do you know what I actually want? I want you out of my life. I don't need you. I don't want you. If you thought we were fine just because I helped you look for Zendaya, well, you thought wrong. Nothing has changed. And to make sure you never come back, I’m asking security to ban you from the premises. Today’s outburst is more than enough reason."Zach’s gaze slowly shifted to Kirk, who now wore a smug, triumphant smirk. So this was his plan all along… to provoke him. Kirk knew that once he exploded and hurt him, he’d have the perfect excuse to banish him from Cyan’s home forever.Damn this fúcktard!Zach lunged at him for the third time, but the security guards held him back firmly.Fúck!"I only came here to talk to you, Cyan. I have something important to say—""I don't
