Chapter One Hundred and Seven

Liana’s POV

His body stayed close to mine. There was a slow, steady calm in the room now, like the air itself had softened. The candles were almost gone, wax pooled at their bases, but the warmth between us was enough. I didn’t need more light to see him. I could feel him.

His hand rested on my hip, fingers relaxed, not holding me, just there. The way he touched me made something inside me feel steady. I hadn’t realised until this moment how much I had been bracing myself every day. Always guarded. Always ready for something to be taken.

But right now, I wasn’t bracing for anything.

I let my body soften against his chest. The rhythm of his breathing was slow and even. My cheek rested against his shoulder. His skin was warm, familiar. I traced small circles along his ribs with my fingertips, not thinking, just moving because it felt right.

He didn’t speak. He didn’t need to. The silence between us felt safe in a way I hadn’t expected.

Chapter One Hundred and Twenty Liana’s POV The breeze moved through the leaves again, soft enough that I could hear it more than feel it. Kael’s hand lowered from my cheek, but the warmth of it stayed, printed into my skin like a memory that would not fade. Neither of us spoke at first. The quiet did not feel empty. It felt like something being understood without words. I looked at the small fountain near us. The water spilt in a steady fall, gentle and quiet. The sound matched the slow rhythm of my breathing. My hands were still, but my thoughts moved. Not in panic. Just in awareness. Kael watched me. I could feel his gaze more than I could see it. It was not heavy. It did not press. It simply stayed. Present. Real. I turned to face him fully. “What happens now,” I asked. His expression did not shift, but something in his eyes focused. “You learn,” he said. “More than before. Not how to survive the court. How to shape it.” I let that sink in. “Shape it.” “Yes.” My hear

  • The King’s Relentless Desire    After the Table

Chapter One Hundred and Nineteen Liana’s POV We left the private dining chamber without speaking. The air in the hallway felt cooler, but the warmth of the room clung to my skin as though I had stayed there longer than I had. I walked beside Kael, but not close enough to touch him. The distance was deliberate, and it made every step feel sharpened. The castle was quieter at this hour. The long corridor glowed with torchlight, throwing slow shadows across the stone floor. Our footsteps echoed lightly. The quiet made it easier to hear my heartbeat, still a little too quick. When we reached my chamber door, Kael stopped. He did not reach for me. He did not lean in. He simply stood there, facing me, as though something had been left unsaid between us and he was waiting for me to say it. I tightened my fingers slightly around the fabric of my dress. “Thank you,” I said. The words felt strange, but not wrong. Kael’s eyes searched my face, slow and unhurried. “You do not need to th

  • The King’s Relentless Desire    The Private Meal

Chapter One Hundred and Eighteen Liana’s POV The private dining chamber was quiet when we entered, lit only by the glow of the hearth and a few high candles along the walls. The room was smaller than the grand hall, meant for two or three, not dozens. The air felt warmer here. Softer. Closer. A single table had been set near the window. Two plates. Two goblets. A bottle of wine already uncorked, breathing. Kael did not speak at first. He walked to the window and opened it slightly, letting in the cool evening air. The breeze drifted across the room, carrying the faint scent of pine and night grass rising from the castle grounds below. I sat. Not because I was told to. Because the silence was comfortable enough to move within. Kael joined me, taking the seat across from mine. For a moment he simply looked at me. Not in the intense way that left me breathless, and not with distance either. Just seeing me. Present. A steady gaze that made it impossible to look away. The food wa

  • The King’s Relentless Desire    The Walk Back

Chapter One Hundred and Seventeen Liana’s POV The corridor opened into the upper courtyard terrace, where the air smelled faintly of pine and smoke from the kitchens below. The stone railing was cool beneath my fingertips as we crossed onto the terrace, the view stretching downward to the training grounds and the river valley beyond. Kael walked a few steps ahead, not because he was pulling me forward, but because the pace was natural to him. I fell into step beside him easily. Below us, the soldiers trained in formation. The sound of metal striking metal carried up in sharp, rhythmic bursts. Shields lifted. Boots braced. Swords cut the air. Life here did not slow, even when everything inside me felt like it had. Kael’s gaze traced the lines of the training rows. “You see the ones closest to the outer wall?” he asked. I followed his line of sight. “Yes. They look older than the rest.” “They are. Veterans of the border conflict. Men who’ve already chosen where they stand.”

  • The King’s Relentless Desire    The Corridor of Sunlight

Chapter One Hundred and Sixteen Liana’s POV We walked in silence at first. The northern corridor was warmer than the great hall, sunlight washing through the tall windows and spilling onto the stone floor in long golden stripes. Dust moved in the air like small drifting sparks. Outside, the courtyard stretched wide and green, dotted with soldiers, stable hands, and messengers crossing back and forth with purpose. The castle lived and breathed even when its halls felt still. Kael slowed when we reached the centre of the corridor, where the windows opened in a long stretch with no tapestries to break the view. He stopped beside the glass and rested one hand lightly against the ledge. Not tired. Not uncertain. Just thinking. I stood beside him. The warmth of the sunlight touched my face. It made my skin feel softer than I felt inside. Kael didn’t look at me at first. He watched the courtyard. “Thane tests everyone,” he said finally. “But you already knew that.” “Ye

  • The King’s Relentless Desire    The Hall of Watching Eyes

Chapter One Hundred and Fifteen Liana’s POV The hall opened around me in a slow swell of voices and movement. Light from the tall stained glass windows fell in colored shapes across the polished stone floor, making the crowd look like they were standing inside fragments of broken jewels. Every step I took carried the soft echo of my boots, though it felt much louder to me than to anyone else. But people noticed. Not openly. Not obviously. They watched the way people in court always watched. Through the corners of their eyes. With half-conversations that paused midsentence. With silence that tried to pretend it wasn’t silence. I felt every one of those glances. I didn’t lower my gaze. I didn’t rush. I moved with the same steady pace I had beside Kael in the corridor. The same silent claim he had placed in his touch lingered on my skin. Even though he wasn’t here beside me now, his presence followed me through the room like a shadow. A few nobles stepped aside to let me p
