Chapter Three

“What do you mean by I shouldn’t have access to the internet? This conversation is not even about me to start with. It is about you! So don’t try to make it about me” Arielle said to him.

His mom watched them argue and she smiled at them. There was no way that they would ever grow apart. She looked at them as they kept arguing. She stopped them later and then when they were done with dinner, she decided to let Alexander go and she did the dishes instead. The next day unfolded quickly as she headed up to wake up her kids. She went to Alex’s door first and realized that his door was locked which was something that he would rarely do. She tried the handle before she knocked.

“Alex? Are you okay?” she asked him.

“Mom?” she heard.

*****

After dinner, he headed to bed. He tried to keep his eyes open because he wasn’t mentally prepared for another nightmare or vision but as soon as he got on his bed, his eyes started to close. He closed his eyes and he found himself on the lonely road again. This time, nobody came, not even the woman that he was expecting to see. The house wasn’t burning anymore and when he moved close to the house, he saw a basket under the wooden floors. He opened the basket and saw a baby there. He was extremely surprised, wondering why somebody would bury a baby in all of this commotion. He decided to take the baby to a near by village when he saw the napkin and the embroidery on it. It was his name, Alexander. Why was this child having the same name as he did? He heard footsteps and he dropped the baby carefully and wrapped him back and he moved away to a bush nearby to hide and watch whoever was coming. Somebody t=did come and it was his mom. What was his mom doing here? He was going to go back and check the baby. He was going to check if the baby had a birthmark on his arm, just like he did but as he took a step further, something dragged him back and he was drawn to a dark room. He landed on his back and he stayed there for a while, feeling very drained. He couldn’t tell where he was but he could tell that the floor was cold and the room was a big one. He got up and was going to find his way in the dark when he heard his name.

“Alex!”

That was his mother's voice. What was she doing here? He looked around, trying to make sense of what was going on.

“Alex” he heard again

“Mom?” he said back, in a low tone.

The room became brighter and he opened his eyes. He looked around and he saw that he was back in his room with his clothes still intact. He sighed and he rubbed his forehead, a little grateful that he was still in his room.

“Alex? Are you okay? Why is the door locked?” she asked

He got off his bed and he ran to the door, unlocking it. He opened it and saw his mom standing there. She looked at him with worry in her eyes. He knew that he couldn’t keep lying to her. He was going to have to tell her the truth sooner or later. He couldn’t keep lying to her. He couldn’t keep up with the excuses. He would have to tell her that he wasn’t just a regular wolf and he had messed with dark magic when he was younger and it was affecting him. It was either that or she would have to be the one doing the talking but it was hard to believe that she would ever lie to him about his identity or keep the fact that he wasn’t her biological son. She was the only mom that he knew and he trusted her with his life. It it turns out that Bennie was right and she was lying, he was going to leave and not look back. He was going to stay as far as he possibly could from her and everybody in the family.

“Alexander? Are you going to answer me or are we going to have to do this the hard way? There is something going on with you. Why wouldn’t you talk to me about it?” his mom asked him.

“Because it is not important, mom. I just read overnight and I fell asleep. I locked the door so that Arielle wouldn’t keep coming and leaving. It was distracting me. I am fine, mom. I promise” he said to her.

“I am finding it hard to believe you these days. You know that you have no reason to lie to me right? I am your mother and I would do anything for you. You don’t have to lie to me or hide anything from me” she said to him.

“I know mom and that is why I would never hide anything from you. I don’t have a reason to lie to you either” he said as he gave her a reassuring hug.

“Alright. You should really get your sister out of bed” his mom said to her as she headed down to the living room.

He sighed and he rubbed his forehead. Lying to his mom was a lot more draining than he thought. He headed to his sister’s room and he knocked on the door. He got no response so he went in and he opened the door. He met her sitting upright on her bed, her legs crossed. She gave him an emotionless look and he stopped walking.

“Why the hell are you sitting like that and why are you looking at me like that?” he asked her.

“Because you are a really good liar and I didn’t know that it was a part of one of the special abilities that you also possess” she said to him.

“What are you talking about, Arielle?” he asked her.

“Look, you can lie to mom about what the hell is going on with you but you can’t lie to me. I know that you are not a normal wolf. You think I wouldn’t know? Alex, c’mon, really. You suck at keeping things to yourself and although you really tried to hide it this time, Bennie is just a blabber mouth and I offer free therapy sessions for him so your secret wasn’t so safe with him” Arielle said to him.

“You offer free therapy sessions for Bennie? Since when did Bennie need therapy?” Alex asked his younger sister.

“He has always needed therapy. I mean, it is a pretty tough world out there. Are you going to close the door so we can talk or does mom have to hear the entire conversation?” she said to him.

He sighed as he shut the door. He had no choice. He knew that his sister had always been brilliant and sensitive right from the time she was a baby. It wasn’t gong to a surprise if she knew that he wasn’t a normal wolf. He moved close to her and he sat on her bed. She looked at him and shook her head.

“What?” he asked her.

“Move closer!” she said to him.

He gave her a weird look and he moved close to her. She smiled at him and he rolled his eyes at her. He didn’t know why he was doing this but what choice was he left with? He would rather entertain his sister’s madness to find out what she knows that to not find out and risk her knowing the truth and telling his mom.

“That is close enough. I know that you already transformed into a wolf. I know that you come from a bloodline of the burning flame pack. I also know that you and Bennie messed with dark magic because you though that Lisa could make you turn into a lion when you were sixteen. You boys are really dumb. I also know that you like Lisa. Bennie didn’t have to tell me that. It is way too obvious that you like her. You act like a total idiot when you are with her” she said to him.

“How do you know all of these things?” Alex asked her.

“i am eleven, not stupid” she said to him.

“Look, I don’t know what I am yet and I would like you to keep every little piece of information to yourself until I find out what is going on with me” Alexander said to her.

“You still think that Bennie was lying or playing around? Some of us actually use the internet for reasonable things like learning about things that should be a myth. I know that you have not walked out of a burning flame before but how long do you think it is until you do? You have dreams that affect your reality. I was in your room when you transformed into a wolf yesterday. You are lucky I wasn’t in there when you transformed back. You did that while you were asleep, Alex. I know that you probably don’t believe any of this because this is your life, this is the life that was given to you but have you ever stopped to consider the fact that this shouldn’t be your life? The last time a burning flame wolf was heard of was when they were killed and their house was burnt down” she said to him.

“Hold on, what do you mean by their house was burnt down?” Alex asked her.

“Yes, you heard it right. After the couple was killed, their house was burnt down by some psychopath. Nobody knows who they were. Guess what else is intriguing. The fact that they were killed two days before your birthday, eighteen years ago” she said to me.

“Girl, you are eleven. Let this go and focus on your nursery rhymes” Alex said to her.

“Really? Why are you o quick to dismiss the thought that you are a burning flame wolf? Why are you so quick to push it all away. Anybody would give anything to be what you are, who you are. Why don’t you want to accept this?” his sister asked him.

“Because that would mean that mom had lied to me all my life! That would mean that she is not even my mother, to start with. That would mean that all my life has been a lie! I don’t think I can handle that truth. Besides, it doesn’t even make any sense. If those people were killed before my birthday eighteen years ago, how is it possible that they are my parents?” he asked her.

“Well, according to the moon rites, your birthday is pronounced by the alpha and it is accepted by the moon. What is mom made that your birthday because that was the day that she found you? Alex, I need you to think about all of this before you conclude and let go of it because ypu will transform when you turn eighteen but I don’t think that it would be voluntary. I think that you would transform because the moon wants you to transform and this time, it would be different” she said to him.

“Arielle, can you hear yourself? It makes no sense. All of it makes no sense!” he said to her.

“Really? I stole your drawing pad. I know that you have been looking for it and I am sorry and you can scold me later but you have half drawings of wolves that you have never even met. If the last burning flame wolf died after you were born, why do you keep drawing them with so much details?” she asked him as she handed him the drawing pad.

He took it from her and he looked at it. He remembered seeing those drawings in his drawing pad but he couldn’t remember drawing any of it.
