Tamara

“Get the book of Trials from North today.”

Those words from Earth echoed in my mind as I walked back from the woods and headed straight toward the main pack house. My feet carried me up the familiar stairs and down the quiet hallway until I reached the door of the Alpha office.

I did not want to push but Earth made it clear that I needed this information. I raised my hand and knocked softly on the door, waiting for a moment before pushing the door open and stepping inside the room.

Tamara The large dining hall was already packed with pack members when breakfast was about to start, and the entire room was buzzing with a lively energy that felt completely foreign. It had been such a long time since the pack house had echoed with genuine happiness instead of tense whispers and fearful silence. The atmosphere was light, bright, and genuinely great. From where I stood near the entrance, I spotted a group of older pack women cornering North near the main table, giving him a mountain of advice while patting his arms. North looked extremely uncomfortable, his broad shoulders stiff, but he stayed right there and patiently tried to answer every single one of their questions with a polite nod. I was pleasantly surprised he agreed to stand there. A few of the younger warriors sitting nearby still looked a bit skeptical, watching him with cautious eyes, but I knew deep down that healing would take time. And the best part was that we had all the time in the world.Just as

Tamara "I would like to begin by apologizing to you all. I'm sorry."He paused, taking a slow breath. "For too long, I have ruled this pack through fear and anger. I thought that keeping you all at a distance made me strong. But I was wrong."He slowly turned his head, his eyes locking onto mine. A soft, reassuring smile touched my lips, and I gave him a tiny nod of encouragement.North turned back to face the pack. "Ever since I found my true mate, I made one mistake after another. I was so scared that you all would not accept her because she came from a different pack, from somewhere outside our borders. So, instead of protecting her, I pushed her away. I pushed away the precious gift the Goddess herself gave to me."A murmur rippled through the crowd, but nobody interrupted him."I was so blinded by the desperate need to please you, and terrified of turning out like my cruel father, that I completely forgot what it actually meant to be a good Alpha and a better mate," North cont

Lucia "I'm so sorry, Kain," I whispered, my voice breaking completely as fresh tears spilled over my cheeks. "Please, just listen to me—""No, Lucia," he cut me off, his voice flat, heavy, and devoid of the warmth I had grown to rely on. "For weeks, I have been losing sleep trying to figure out a future for the two of us. Every single plan I made, every thought in my head, was about how we could stay together and face whatever came. But all you wanted to do was pack a bag and leave me behind, wasn't it?""No!" I cried out, shaking my head frantically as my knees felt weak beneath me. "That's not true, Kain, please—"He only shook his head, a bitter, heartbreaking smile forming on his lips before it faded into nothing.“Lucia just stop…” he whispered, then, the room fell into silence. We stood there in the quiet darkness for what felt like hours, neither of us moving, the surrounding thick with our shared misery. When he finally broke the silence, his whisper barely reached my ears.

NorthI opened my eyes to find that I had somehow fallen asleep right beside Tamara, her soft breathing was steady and comforting against my chest. Carefully, so as not to wake her, I pressed a gentle kiss to the top of her head and pulled the heavy blanket up higher to tuck her in more securely.Quietly slipping out of bed, I realized how late it was. The pack house was completely dark and silent, except for the rhythmic footsteps of the patrol wolves outside. As I walked the grounds, the guards bowed their heads in respect as I passed.I eventually made my way toward the training grounds to check the perimeter, finding everything secure and in order before I turned to head back. But just as I was about to leave, a familiar, small silhouette caught my eye near the edge of the Forest. Not many members of the Nightsword pack were that small or had that distinct, fragile frame. What was she doing out here at this hour? Where on earth was she going?Suspicion gnawing at my gut, I decide

TamaraI honestly thought I was losing my mind when North walked across the dining hall and sat down right next to me.What on earth was he doing here? He had never once left the Alpha's seat in all the time I had known him. Next to me, Raven nearly choked on a piece of roasted meat, coughing wildly as his eyes bulged out in shock.I dropped my head down toward my plate, my face burning with heat, and hissed under my breath to North, "What are you doing?"North didn't look at me or anyone else. He just picked up his fork and said calmly, "I'm eating."I wanted to snap back at him, to tell him how crazy this was, but I bit my tongue and decided against it. The rest of dinner passed in a haze of whispers and staring eyes. After dinner ended and everyone began clearing away the plates, the entire pack house was buzzing with excitement and shock. It was practically impossible for anyone to wrap their heads around the Alpha leaving his seat to eat where the lower-ranked wolves sat.Rave

North The evening lights were already stretching across the grounds when I finally found my way to Elder Miko’s secluded cottage. The air was cold, but I barely felt it beneath the numbing weight crushing my chest. When Miko opened her door and saw me standing outside in the dark, she didn't ask questions. She simply stood out, studying my face, and asked quietly what brought me here at this hour.“North, What brings you here?”I didn't say a single word. I couldn't. My throat was too tight, choked by a suffocating mixture of shame and grief. I just walked over to her porch and sank down onto the wooden step, staring blindly down at my hands.Elder Miko must have noticed that I was physically unable to speak. Without asking again, she stepped outside and sat down right next to me on the cold boards.I didn't know exactly when the first drop of moisture left my eyes. When was the last time I had cried? Years ago?Maybe when my mother died. I couldn't even remember. But this time, I d
