Isolde's POV

The smell of smoke and blood hung in the air as I walked across the battlefield. Bodies lay everywhere. Some wolf, some vampire, some human. Death didn't care what you were.

I pulled my black coat tighter around me. Not because I was cold—witches like me don't feel cold. I just didn't want them to see me shaking.

They had good reason to kill me on sight. After all, I had helped the Queen. I had betrayed them all.

I spotted them near the burning forest—Sienna with her ruby-red hair, the Alpha Kieran standing protectively beside her, and two others I hadn't expected: Zeke, who looked different somehow, and Ronan, whose silver eyes glowed in the darkness.

Ronan saw me first. In a flash, he stood before me, a knife at my throat.

"Give me one reason not to end you right now, witch," he growled.

I swallowed hard against the blade. "Because I know where the Third Trial will take place. And

  • The Last Ruby Wolf - Live as a Queen or Die as a Monster   Forest Whispers

Isolde's POVThe moon hung like a silver eye between the trees as I led our strange group deeper into the Whispering Woods. Behind me, Sienna stumbled along, still weak from her vision at the altar. The vampire prince, Caius, watched her with hungry eyes. Kieran prowled at the edges, angry and betrayed. And Ronan—he stayed closest to Sienna, memories returning like birds to a nest. They didn't trust me. I couldn't blame them."We need to stop," I stated, pointing to a small clearing ahead. "I need to perform the hiding ritual again before the Syndicate trackers find our trail.""Again?" Kieran growled. "The last one barely worked. We still had to fight off those shadow wolves."I turned to face him. "Would you rather I did nothing, Alpha? The Queen has eyes everywhere. Even the trees whisper to her."As if to make my point, the leaves rustled though there was no wind.Sienna stepped forward, her

  • The Last Ruby Wolf - Live as a Queen or Die as a Monster   The Journey Begins

Sienna's POVThe forest path felt different under my feet today. Not just because we were going to the Third Trial, but because everything had changed since Darius died."You okay?" Ronan asked, walking close beside me. His voice made something stir in my mind—like trying to remember a song I used to know."I'm fine," I lied. Nothing was great.Behind us, Kieran walked alone, his face dark with anger. He hadn't spoken since we left camp this morning. I knew why. Every time he looked at me, he saw the curse that wasn't really his."He'll come around," Ronan said quietly, following my eyes."Will he? His Beta betrayed him. The curse he thought was his fate turns out to be someone else's magic." I kicked a stone off the road. "And now he has to protect me because of some stupid prophecy he never asked for."Ronan's hand brushed mine. Just a touch, but it felt like electricity."Some memorie

  • The Last Ruby Wolf - Live as a Queen or Die as a Monster   The Fallen Betrayer

Darius's POVI didn't make it far from the house. My scars were too deep, my strength fading too fast. The clearing where I fell was peaceful at least—a small mercy as I lay dying.Blood soaked through my shirt where the Queen had stabbed me. Her leaving gift when she realized I was going to warn them."You'll die slowly," she had promised, turning the blade. "Long enough to feel every second of your betrayal."She was right about that. Each breath hurt worse than the last.I dragged myself to the base of an old oak tree. Funny how beautiful everything looked when you knew you wouldn't see it again. The leaves above me danced in the wind. The sky was darkening unnaturally—the Queen's fake Blood Moon coming early.I had played my part. Warned Kieran and the others. Maybe that would make up for some of what I'd done. Not all of it, though. Nothing could erase those mistakes."Well, well. T

  • The Last Ruby Wolf - Live as a Queen or Die as a Monster   Council of War

Kieran's POVI watched as Sienna paced back and forth. We had set up our war council in an old hunting house at the edge of pack territory. Everyone was on edge."We need to decide what to do, and fast," I said. "The Blood Moon rises tomorrow night."Ronan sat in the corner, his silver eyes shining brighter than before. Now that I knew what he was—the lock to an old prison—I couldn't look at him the same way.Zeke stood by the window, his new vampire-wolf senses on high alert. "The Syndicate is moving troops to the base of Mount Blackthorn. At least fifty fighters."Isolde spread a map on the wooden table. Her black witch's cloak was covered in dirt and blood, but her hands were steady as she marked places."The Queen will have guards here, here, and here," she said, making red X marks. "The path to the cave only appears under the Blood Moon light. We'll have to fight our way up."

  • The Last Ruby Wolf - Live as a Queen or Die as a Monster   Family Secrets

Zeke's POVI woke up screaming.Fire burned through my blood. Not like regular pain—this was cold fire, like ice that burned. Vampire blood. Caius's blood."Hold him down!" someone yelled.Hands pressed against my shoulders. I fought against them, my body not feeling like my own anymore."Zeke! It's me. It's Sienna!"My sister's voice cut through the fog in my head. I stopped fighting and opened my eyes.Sienna leaned over me, her face streaked with dirt and blood. Behind her stood the Alpha—Kieran—his eyes watching me with suspicion."What's happening to me?" I gasped. My skin felt too tight, like I might burst out of it."Caius's blood is changing you," Sienna stated. "You're not fully vampire, but not just wolf anymore either."My memories rushed back—the fight, the Gate, the Queen's blade slicing through my side. I should be dead. Instead, I was... what?"W

  • The Last Ruby Wolf - Live as a Queen or Die as a Monster   Alpha's Proposal

Kieran's POVMy body ached with wounds that would take days to heal, even with my Alpha skills. But I didn't care. Sienna was living. That was all that mattered. The battlefield around us looked like something from a nightmare. Trees burned with dying ruby fire. Dead shadow creatures melted into black puddles. My wolves moved among the injured, helping those they could. And in the middle of it all, Sienna knelt beside the fallen vampire prince.Jealousy burned in my chest, hotter than any of my wounds. I pushed it down. Now wasn't the time."Get him to the healer's tent," I told two of my strongest pack members. They paused only a moment before lifting Caius's unconscious body.Sienna looked up at me, her eyes glowing softly with ruby light. "Kieran..."My name on her lips felt like coming home. I'd spent so long hunting her, then protecting her, and now..."You're hurt," she said, rising to

  • The Last Ruby Wolf - Live as a Queen or Die as a Monster   Vampire's Vow

Caius's POV Blood and power filled the air. I'd lived for ages, but never had I seen chaos like this. The Gate hummed with dark power as I raced toward it, my vampire speed barely keeping pace with Kieran's wolf form. Around us, the forest burned. Creatures of darkness danced between trees. And at the center of it all stood Sienna—the Ruby Wolf—her power blazing like a falling star. "Left flank!" I yelled to my vampires. They moved without question, cutting through the Queen's troops. Strange to fight alongside dogs when we'd been enemies for so long. Stranger still to care so much about a wolf girl's safety. The Queen turned, her old eyes finding mine across the battlefield. A smile curled her lips. She remembered me, though we'd met only once, ages ago. "Prince Caius," she called, her voice carrying despite the noise. "Still chasing power that isn't yours

  • The Last Ruby Wolf - Live as a Queen or Die as a Monster   Betrayed Betrayed

Darius's POV I tasted success in the air as my wolves tore through the forest. Shadow things flanked us, their bodies like live smoke twisting between trees. The Queen had promised me power beyond imagination when this was done. When the Ruby Wolf fell. "Push forward!" I yelled, my voice carrying over the sounds of fighting. "The Alpha has abandoned you all for that witch!" My followers howled in answer, their eyes glowing with hate. So easy to handle. So ready to believe Kieran had betrayed them. Blood spattered my face as one of Caius's vampires burst into dust before me. Their kind were strong but not invincible. Nothing was invincible. Not even a Ruby Wolf. I changed forms, bones cracking as my body transformed into the massive gray wolf that had earned me the post of Beta. My claws dug into the ground as I charged tow
