Chapter 3

Penulis: Huff and Puff
Jared's eyes were red.

Like a madman, he demanded, "Where did you hide Melody?!"

I stared at him in confusion, but before I could speak, his hand clamped around my throat. "Rosalia, have I spoiled you so much over the years that you think you can do whatever you want? That you won't even spare a life?"

I couldn't breathe. Only when I was on the brink of suffocation did he finally loosen his grip.

Gasping for air, I looked at him helplessly. "I didn't do anything!"

His anger only deepened. "If you didn't do it, then who?! I was only gone for a moment, and it was just the two of you at home! Why is Melody the one missing? You pretended to be someone considerate, but in reality, you're just jealous that she's carrying my child. Rosalia, when did you become so spiteful?"

I couldn't hold back my tears anymore; they started rolling down my cheeks uncontrollably. Something flickered in Jared's eyes—he used to hate seeing me cry. He was about to reach out to comfort me when his phone rang.

After listening to the voice on the other end, his eyes turned even colder. Hanging up, he yanked me forward.

"You're so good at playing the victim! I almost believed you! If anything happens to Melody or the baby today, I'll never forgive you!"

I didn't even have my shoes on as he dragged me away. On the stairs, I tripped and fell, my knee slamming hard against the step corners. The sharp pain made me cry out, but Jared acted like he didn't notice, still gripping my wrist and pulling me along.

By the time I was shoved into the car, my legs were a bloody, mangled mess.

The car sped down the highway. Aside from the time I had been injured saving him, I had never seen him so frantic. Soon, we reached a small island.

A few of his men rushed over. "Boss, Melody is right over there!"

Following their gaze, I saw Melody hanging unconscious from a rusty iron frame, bound with rope.

"I've already checked. The kidnappers ran off just before you arrived," they added, looking at me with unreadable expressions.

Melody was quickly freed. She clutched her belly weakly and looked up at Jared. "Jared, I knew you'd come for me!"

Then she turned her teary eyes toward me. "Rosalia, if you really can't accept me, I can leave. But why must you hurt my baby?"

I shook my head wildly. "It wasn't me! I didn't do anything…"

Before I could finish, Jared's palm struck my face hard. He scooped Melody into his arms and looked down at me, high and mighty.

"Rosalia, you've gone too far this time. Stay here and think about what you've done."

With that, he carried Melody away. Over his shoulder, she shot me a smug look. The sea breeze howled at me, chilling me to the bone.

The island was completely desolate. Being left here was a death sentence.

Just then, a familiar voice echoed in my head. "Five days until you exit this world."

A bitter smile touched my lips. Maybe this was for the best. I was going to disappear anyway… Slipping away quietly like this might just be easier!

I didn't know how much time had passed. Just as I was on the brink of death, Jared appeared. He cupped my face with a look of deep concern.

"Rosalia, what am I supposed to do with you?"

I gazed at him weakly.

Yet no matter how I looked, I couldn't read him at all.

"I cut these with a dagger—each one for every moment I hurt you. The system told me you were in a new world. I killed everyone who stood in my way. Even if I had to fall into the abyss, I would...""Enough!" I clapped my hands over my ears, tears falling onto my wedding dress.Colin pulled me gently into his arms, his chin resting lightly on my head, his warm breath brushing my ear. "Don't be afraid. I'm here."Suddenly, Melody lunged at me, nails reaching out to scratch my face. "It's all your fault! Taking Jared wasn't enough... You have to ruin everything!"Colin moved away and seized her wrist in a firm grip.In that instant, a glint of brutality flashed in Jared's eyes. At some point, he had drawn a dagger and driven it straight into Melody's abdomen.I screamed; Colin instantly shielded me with his body. Blood splattered across my gown, blooming like a scarlet flower.Melody stared at the hilt protruding from her belly, lips trembling—she couldn't utter a word. Jared let

Our wedding was set three months later.Colin was determined to give me the perfect wedding. Every afternoon, he would disappear mysteriously into his study and begin writing his long, detailed checklists."Should we have the dress custom-made?""Do you prefer an outdoor wedding or a church ceremony?""Would you like the invitations in gold foil?"He asked for my opinion on every detail, worried that even the tiniest imperfection might slip through. That feeling of being truly cherished often made me wake in the middle of the night. As I watched him sleep peacefully beside me, tears slipped silently down my cheeks.A week before the wedding, Colin took me to test my wedding gown. When I stepped out of the fitting room in the pure white dress, his eyes instantly turned red. He stood frozen, awkward and overwhelmed, like a youth on his first date.He was almost choked with emotion. "Rosalia… I must be the luckiest man in the world."At that moment, the boutique door suddenly bur

Back home, Jared stepped into what had once been our bedroom. It was now completely transformed by Melody. In a frenzy, he hurled every one of her belongings out the window. The lavish decorations, the expensive clothes, all lay scattered outside like the shattered pieces of his heart. He sat down on the edge of the bed, his hand resting on the spot where I used to sleep, tears welling in his eyes once again. Memories of our time together came flooding back, every detail he had once ignored now becoming vivid. When he worked late into the night, I would always prepare some snacks for him.I would always tend to his wounds every time he was hurt, eyes filled with worry.Even after he had hurt me again and again because of Melody, I would always remind him softly to stay safe before he went out.And him? He had only returned my love with coldness and cruelty.Jared pounded his head in anguish and groaned, "Rosalia, how could I be so blind and so stupid?"He suddenly remembered s

Jared's two most trusted men chimed in, "We've never liked Rosalia. She's too dedicated to Jared. We couldn't do as we pleased!"Jared shook his head in disbelief, unable to understand why such strange images were flashing through his mind. Despite that, everything felt so real.He remembered the day Melody went missing, and how he had immediately blamed me without thinking twice. Suddenly, he tore back into the bedroom like a madman, rummaging through everything. Finally, at the very bottom of the safe, he found a marriage certificate. But when his trembling fingers opened it, the spouse's name read Melody Sand.Jared collapsed to the floor, his face as pale as paper. "This… This isn't possible!"Just then, his phone received a video from an unknown number. In the video, Melody and the two men were caught plotting everything—including how she staged her kidnapping, orchestrated the miscarriage, and framed me.Jared groaned in agony; he clutched his head, finally realizing the

Melody's eyes were red and swollen from crying as she looked up at Jared, her voice trembling. "Jared… Did our baby make it?"Jared spoke softly as he held Melody in his arms, his gaze full of tenderness. "Melody, we can always have another even if we lost this one. Once you're better, we can get another child."Melody's emotions flared after she heard what Jared had to say. She turned to me and screamed in rage, "It's your fault! It's all your fault!"Jared let her roar at me, his voice cold when he finally turned to me. "Tonight, you'll fall on your knees and repent until Melody is satisfied!"With that, he turned and left. The moment the door shut behind Jared, Melody let out a sneer. "Rosalia Weaver... Everyone said that the feared mob boss Jared Pierce loves you more than anything else. Clearly, that's just a joke! Do you know? I staged that kidnapping myself. This baby came at the wrong time... After getting poisoned, it wouldn't be a healthy baby even if it were born. All

The system's voice rang out again. "Two days left until you leave this world."I let out a bitter smile. I had no strength left, and my vision went black. When I woke again, Jared was sitting by my side, holding my hand gently. "Rosalia, you're finally awake. This was just a small lesson. As long as you know what you did was wrong, that will be enough. No matter what, the one I love will always be you.""No… I didn't do anything wrong!"Cold all over, I trembled as I tried to pull away from him, only to realize my feet were trapped by something. Pulling back the blanket, I froze. Heavy iron chains were locked around my ankles, making it nearly impossible to move.Jared's voice turned icy. "I know you won't admit your mistake so easily. So, you'll stay in this room until Melody has the baby. Then, I'll let you out."Three days without food, combined with all the pent-up emotions I had been holding back, a rush of metallic taste surged up my throat as I coughed out a mouthful o
