Chapter 2

Penulis: Jow
Seeing Alaric like that, Seraphina immediately flew into rage again.

“This isn’t over, Cassian!

“You enjoy ruining people, don’t you?” she asked before turning to the other bodyguards.

“Scratch his face to pieces for me!”

My parents rushed forward to intervene, their voices filled with terror.

“We’ll apologize to him! Please, can you let Cassian go?”

Seraphina remained unmoved.

My eyes started to water at the sight of my pleading parents.

Ever since I got engaged to Seraphina, I had lost count of how many times she had humiliated me for Alaric’s sake.

Now, she was humiliating my parents, too.

She hadn’t even considered becoming one family with me, had she?

Alaric suddenly whined in distress.

“Were the toad eggs really that awful?”

Seraphina narrowed her eyes and addressed my parents.

“I can let Cassian go, but you have to finish the rest of the toad eggs.”

A bodyguard clamped my neck and pressed a knife close to my face.

My parents hurriedly lifted their glasses.

“No! We’ll drink it!”

I struggled violently, trying to stop them, but the bodyguard kept me pinned.

I could only watch as my parents downed every last disgusting egg.

They even endured the nausea, afraid Seraphina might change her mind.

Seraphina sneered coldly.

“Now… That wasn’t so bad, was it? So why all the fuss?”

“Remember to give Alaric the patents your parents hold as compensation, or I won’t be at the wedding!”

Then she made to leave with Alaric for the hospital.

“We’re not getting married!” I rasped, my voice hoarse.

Alaric stubbornly pushed Seraphina aside, wearing the mask of restrained grievance.

“I’m okay now, Miss Vale. You should comfort Mr. Blackwood.

“No matter what, I can’t be the obstacle to your happy marriage.”

Anyone with eyes could see that Alaric was pretending.

But Seraphina didn’t notice at all and was deeply moved by his words.

“Alaric, why do you always put me first?”

She looked at my parents, tears welling in her eyes.

“Did you see that? Alaric is the one who truly loves me!

“But Cassian keeps trying to bully him.

“This wedding…He’s the one refusing it, so why should I be rushing toward it?”

Then she left, taking Alaric and the bodyguards with her.

Only then did Harold and Margaret speak.

“That was all said in anger, Cassian. We will…”

My parents helped me to my feet, their faces stern as they interrupted them.

“We’re done with you and your family!”

After arriving at the hospital, my parents underwent gastric lavage.

I, however, needed surgery due to the severity of my fractures.

My parents had returned early, happily putting aside work to attend my wedding.

I never expected them to endure such humiliation.

Any remaining feelings I had for Seraphina vanished completely.

When Seraphina arrived at the hospital, her neck and chest were streaked with vivid red marks.

She didn’t bother hiding them.

“I’m not a doctor. I really don’t understand why my parents insisted I come.

“Alaric was feeling guilty and wanted to quit because of you.

“I’ve been busy comforting him, so I don’t have time to waste on you.

“You know what? I’m leaving.”

And she did.

I felt a sudden clarity.

Back when I first noticed her favoritism toward Alaric, she would soothe me, saying that Alaric had saved her countless times and suffered many injuries in the process.

Her kindness toward him had been a form of repayment.

Over time, however, her attention shifted from simple favoritism to letting Alaric trample over me.

In public, she shared intimate moments with Alaric, leaving my dignity in the dust.

“But being able to marry you makes me very happy.”Only then did I realize that Isolde’s calm composure earlier had been an act.She had believed I had asked her to step in merely as a last‑minute rescue, not because I truly wanted to marry her.I pinched her nose lightly. “Don’t say something so silly. I already set an alarm. We’re going to register our marriage first thing tomorrow morning.”Isolde’s eyes lit up instantly. “Really?”I nodded. “Really.”She threw herself into my arms and held me tightly. She was so excited that she didn’t sleep at all that night. Early the next morning, she urged me out the door, and we went together to get our marriage certificate.Only when she held the certificate in her hands did she finally break into a radiant smile.I felt that I truly had wronged her. From then on, I resolved to treat her well and never betray her.My parents rarely stayed in the country anymore, and Isolde’s parents lived overseas, so we decided to move abroa

“Who told you to be so stupid? I said a few nice words, and you actually believed me.“I was just a petty thug who didn’t know where the next meal was coming from. But thanks to you, I’ve not only got money—I’m now a wealthy son-in-law.“There’s no way I’m letting go.”Harold and Margaret slumped to the ground at Alaric’s admission.Who could have imagined that while scheming against others, they themselves were being schemed against?Margaret looked at me pleadingly.“For the sake of past feelings, can’t you help Sera?“She’ll be ruined by this scoundrel!”Seraphina was weeping with regret.“You heard it yourself, Cassian. It’s all Alaric’s fault!“He tricked me!“I don’t want to be married to him!”Did they really think I would help them? Not a chance. The look on my face broke Seraphina completely. She lunged toward Isolde.“You little bitch! If it weren’t for you, why would Cassian suddenly refuse to marry me?”I stepped in front of Isolde.“I warned you before,

“I told you to play! I didn’t tell you to be serious!” Margaret yelled back.Harold fumed fiercely and then slapped Margaret across the face.“You’ve spoiled her rotten! That’s why this mess happened!“Where does that leave my dignity?”Margaret grabbed my hand.“Cassian, listen to me. If you care about Sera being twice-married, we can sue Alaric.“Claim fraud, and annul the marriage. How about that?”Harold knew full well that if this wedding fell through, those patents would no longer be available for his company.Who knew? I might even take revenge. So, looking at Isolde he gritted his teeth and said, “Fine. You just need to marry Sera. You like this girl, you can keep her. “It doesn’t matter. We won’t object.”But Seraphina did not share his thoughts.“What right do you have to share a man with me?”I swung my still-healing arm and smashed Harold across the face.Forget respecting elders, I couldn’t care less. His words had insulted me, and Isolde.“Do you think I’

My parents had actually always liked Isolde; it was just that, back then, my heart and eyes held only Seraphina.I had even stubbornly stayed behind in the country, determined to be with her.At the time, my parents had said I would regret it.Now, I truly did.I had to admit that my parents had always been frighteningly good judges of character.Seraphina’s parents were afraid I would expose what happened back then—after all, it involved a kidnapping—so they no longer dared to stop me.Instead, Seraphina rushed forward in a panic.“You can’t do this, Cassian!“Today is supposed to be our wedding. You’re not allowed to marry someone else!”It was as if I were the one who had done something wrong.Yet hadn’t she herself brought us to this point? What was more, she had already registered her marriage, so why was she still clinging to me?I looked at her coldly.“Did you want the best of both worlds?“Marry two men at once?“Bigamy is a crime, you know?”Seraphina had not

“Wishing you both… never to be parted.”Everyone could hear the mocking undertone in those words.Seraphina’s parents finally grasped the gravity of the situation. They stepped in front of us, forcing a weak smile.“Cassian, is this a joke? Isn’t today supposed to be your wedding with Sera?“Surely you’re just performing a little show for everyone?“And please, don’t ever do this again.”I smiled at them, gesturing toward the marriage certificate Alaric still held.“They already registered their marriage, so how is this a joke?“Sorry, gotta go. My wedding is starting too.”Harold and Margaret’s faces burned with humiliation.“Sera! Explain yourself! What is going on here?”Seraphina turned pale, unable to speak. So I spoke for her.“She said she once promised to give herself to Alaric, so she had to marry him first.“Before the wedding, they even shared the bridal chamber several times.“I’m a romantic. How could I break up true love? So I had to let them be together.

Seraphina’s eyes lit up.“What’s the special program? Did you hire my favorite celebrity to perform?”I smiled with meaning.“Even more special than that. You’ll see in three days.”Alaric gestured toward the villa.“You’re willing to let me and Sera have a ceremony before the wedding…” he began.“So arranging the villa as a bridal suite and spending the night with her in advance isn’t too much, is it?”His tone dripped with arrogance.“Stop joking!” Seraphina said, but the shy, coquettish expression in her eyes told the whole story.Who knew how many times they had slept together behind my back? Did this one night even matter?“As long as you’re happy,” I said coldly. Then I turned and left.Seraphina felt a vague, sinking sense that she was about to lose something important.“Alaric… maybe we should skip the ceremony. There will be so many guests…”Alaric’s eyes flickered, and he held Seraphina tightly.“I just want to have the ceremony. “After this, you’ll be some
