Hrolf slid into the bath slowly allowing the hot steam to relax his muscles after a long day. He let out a soft moan and washed his body clean when he felt a tug on his mind.
It was his Beta, Cassie who was mind-linking him. He wondered what could be so important that Cassie couldn't wait till dawn.
Cassie - 'Hrolf, are you still awake?'
Hrolf - 'If I were even sleeping by now and you disturbed me, I'd be off the bed knowing that it has to be something really important, Cassie. What is it?'
He stepped out of the bath and reached for his robe before striding into his room.
Cassie - 'We have an issue on ground.'
His hand lingered on the doorknob when he heard those words from Cassie. Hrolf let out a sigh and shook his head. All he needed was his bed but fate had something else planned for him.
Hrolf - 'I'm listening.'
Cassie - 'The Patrol guards caught a spy at the border and they reported it to me. From the looks of it, she's not from the Pack.'
Hrolf - 'What? By this time of the night?'
Cassie - 'Yes, I was shocked too. We are on our way to the house.'
Hrolf - 'Alright, you can bring her. I'll be waiting.'
Ashina flipped her eyes open to realise that her hands were now chained behind her while she knelt on her knees a few meters from the throne.
She darted her eyes around the well-illuminated room taking in its beauty. It had a big throne chair in the center of the room.
Warriors stood at different corners of the spacious room. Each was dressed in a helmet and bronze armor with swords slung around their waists just like the warriors who had captured her.
At least she was safe now. Alpha Hrolf would definitely save her from all this. She would no longer have to abscond. She let out a sigh reliving how this had happened.
When the rogues led by Zeeb Lyall invaded her pack, he killed her mother, who was the Luna leaving her alone with her maid. Then he had made a pronouncement that she would be his Luna.
Ashina tried stalling to take the throne back. One mistake she made was confiding in her maid, Billie. However, she soon realized that Billie had joined hands with Zeeb. The betrayal from the maid she had taken like her own sister still hurt.
She rested back on her knees wondering when Alpha Hrolf would show up. She was tired and needed rest.
Zeeb stripped her of her title as Luna and turned her into a servant after she rejected his advances in the presence of the Pack Chiefs so many times. Barely two weeks into his reign, he declared she would either marry him or be killed by his newly appointed Omegas.
Most of the omegas were his fellow rogues from her Pack. She could relate to the betrayal from them because the members of the Pack weren't fond of her family as her parents were terrible leaders.
They had gladly obliged him when the tables turned. With most believing that she would be a terrible leader just like her parents, she knew she didn't stand a chance against them so she snuck out of the room they had kept her under the disguise of being one of the palace maids.
It wasn't until she was past the gate before they realised that she was missing. The moment the bell tolled, she knew she had to run like her life depended on it. And that was how she had landed here.
Ashina'e eyes watered and fresh tears flowed down her face. Actually now with Alpha Hrolf on her side, her mantra had changed.
Fear. Fright. Flight. Fight.
She couldn't give up her parent's throne like that. That was all she had. Ashina was different from them and she hoped the Pack members would see this but they didn't.
She would fight for it no matter what happened. Her life was in danger at the moment but she would go back someday to take what rightfully belonged to her.
"Where is she?" Hrolf strode into the room with an air of Alpha pride in him.
"She is here, Alpha." A Pack warrior who had gone to alert him was now by his side.
Ashina snapped out of her reverie and stared into the most beautiful pair of golden eyes she had ever seen. A jagged line on his left eye didn't in any way diminish his handsomeness.
He was well-built and looked domineering. Little wonder, most Packs feared him. She could see the reason why. His hair was a permed silver ombre, giving him the perfect Alpha male look.
His jawline was sharp and she imagined a smile on his lips. He was the most handsome man on earth. She smiled at him but he returned it with a scoff.
"Look who we have here." A small smile twitched on the corners of his lips as he sat on the throne.
He stared back into her ocean-blue eyes, roving his eyes all over her body while wondering what such beauty was doing at the border at such an odd hour.
Hrolf shook the thoughts away and gripped the arm of his chair while thinking of what to do.
"Did you see anyone with her?" He turned his attention to Erik.
"No, Alpha. It looked like she was escaping from some people and she had no idea of the landmines." Erik replied him.
What was she running away from? Why? How was she able to cross the river in such a state without fainting? Since she had arrived at night, something was fishy about it. He always believed his first instinct and it told him that there was more to this beautiful face.
He was not yet sure if she was a threat and from the look of it, she looked like she had been running for days. Hrolf thought for a few seconds and cleared his throat to give his judgment.
"Since she isn't from the Pack, she should be chained in the dark dungeon until further notice. I will attend to her when I have time." He said and stood up to leave the room.
Ashina's face fell and her lips parted in complete shock.
"I would like to speak with you alone, Alpha Hrolf." Ashina said boldly.A hush silence fell upon the room and almost everyone stared at her in shock. She had dared to speak when their Alpha had spoken. It was rare. The warriors who had moved closer to take her to the den paused in their tracks and Hrolf couldn't help but turn around. He stared at her in a different light. Her brazenness struck a chord in him. No one. No one dared speak after he, the renowned Alpha of the White Moon Pack, gave an order. But this young maiden had dared to speak. The warriors dragged her up violently but they were stopped by Hrolf. He raised his hand in the air - a signal that they were to leave her alone.Erik and Bjorn turned to face each other in surprise. However, they let her go immediately at his command. Not only did she speak, but she was also staring at him with so much confidence oozing from her veins. Hrolf erupted into a harsh peal of mocking laughter. With her lips set in a hard stubborn
Ever since she had made that statement, he knew something was up with her. She wasn't only afraid, she was running away from something. However, at the moment, he didn't know what it was but he would know soon. The afternoon sun burned in the blue sky pouring in through the small window that supplied air and light to his office.Hrolf stood up from the chair and walked towards the balcony on his left. The sun painted everything in a warm yellow color and cast a golden glow on the earth. The wind gently brushed over his cheeks like feathers and the air smelled like fresh-cut grass. He inhaled the earthy scent that came from the trees as they swayed back and forth in the breeze. His eyes scanned the surrounding area, taking in the sight of houses, and trees as the bird chirped above in the sky. When he told Erik to take her to the den, he had mind-linked him and had told him to come back to his room with Bjorn, his partner. They had done as he commanded and when they came back, he sen
"I can heal him." Ashina said immediately the Alpha started to leave, from his reaction to the news they just gave him, she was sure this Gael was special to him. "What did you say?" Hrolf paused, turning to her, he narrowed his eyes suspiciously at her. "I can heal this Gael, whoever he is." Ashina said, her head was swimming with thoughts on how to free herself out of this dungeon, she thanked the moon goddess for giving her healing powers. She never knew it would come in handy someday. She hoped it would prove its worth and save her from this hellhole. She wanted to live a normal life again. "He's my son." Hrolf said and Ashina gasped, she had heard about him, how kind he was and all, but she didn't know he had a son. "I can heal your son." Ashina said firmly. "And why should I believe you?" Hrolf asked angrily, he was sure she was like her father, he wouldn't be surprised if she was being deceptive. "When I see him, I'll make sure he's well again, and then you'll see that I'
Hrolf sighed reluctantly, he turned to the guards. "Unlock her." He said and they opened the cell, unlocking Ashina from the chains that held her. "Thank you for the opportunity." Ashina said, though she knew that her appreciation will mean nothing to him. Hrolf walked out and Ashina followed him, she looked around the Pack as they kept walking and realized how big it was. It was bigger than what she heard, and from what she knew, this wasn't the whole Pack, this was the area the Alpha showed her, she couldn't wait to explore everywhere, once he allowed her to be part of the Pack. She hoped she was able to heal his son or it would give him an upper hand over her. For her sake and for his son's, she hoped she was able to. Hrolf stopped before the door that led to his son's room. He glared at Ashina once more, wondering if he was making the right decision by letting her near his son. He decided to take his chances, somehow he had little hope that she could help him. Ashina watched
Ashina couldn't stop her beating heart. She moistened her lips and swallowed back audibly. She knew he wouldn't let her in his Pack just like that, after all they were enemies but she didn't expect being asked to duel. She still felt weak after using her energy to heal Gael but even at that, did she have any hope against him? She hoped she could still have the energy to fight him. He was a strong warrior and from the news she had heard, he never lost when fighting. For some reason, she was scared. Ashina sat back on the bed, biting her nails and hitting her head on the wall while thinking of ways she could win him. She knew it was somehow impossible to win Alpha Hrolf, if the stories about him were true she didn't stand a chance. She may be have been strong enough to fight the warriors in her Pack, but she wasn't sure it was enough to beat the Alpha. She had almost forgotten she wasn't alone in the room when the tall guard who had come to announce Gael's sickness cleared his throa
The arena was so big, it had large seats that could hold upwards to twenty thousand people at once, and it could hold up to thirty thousand or even more. It was a dome-like structure made of marble that was painted a dark gray color. There were several entrances and it was beautiful. It had several tiers and there was an open space near the middle which was used for free entertainment during fights and other activities. The crowd quieted when she walked in with the guard. She realized this pack had lots of challenges and that's why they had a place for fighting. She could hear sneers and boos. Ashina realised how loyal they were to their Alpha, she hoped it didn't unnerve her. She heard cheers and realized that Alpha Hrolf walked in. She turned around and swallowed. Her heart pounded hard in her. He stood in the ring facing her, ready to battle. Just one look at Gael had Ashina's nervousness floating away. He smiled at her waving and she waved back. She saw a young lady dr
Hrolf walked around his office, thinking of ways to stall this announcement. He didn't want her here and he didn't want to announce it, but somehow he knew he had to. He blamed himself for letting her get the best of him during the duel, he couldn't believe she had the strength to push him to the ground and was also smart enough to outsmart him. It ticked him off because he was much stronger than her and it made him believe that she really had a motive for being here. What made him upset was how Gael had approached the night before to plead with him to accept her in the Pack. For some reason, he felt like she won over his son who wasn't impressed easily and didn't talk to everyone much. He was just polite, but he disliked associating. Frustrated and tired of vain thinking, he sighed and accepted the fact that she would be part of his Pack, but he decided to make sure her life was a living hell. He would ensure that she regretted coming here. He concluded that he would keep tormen
Ashina couldn't believe her luck, she was so happy. But she knew she would love spending time with Gael more. As long as she wasn't sent out of this Pack, working as a nanny and housekeeper was better than being caught by Zeeb. She smiled at Gael as he bounced to her side. He flashed a wide smile at her as she threaded her hand through his hair. "I'm so happy, my father decided that you stay here. I knew he would never reject me." Gael propped his chin on his hand, staring at her with a smile. "Sweet boy." Ashina chuckled. Gael linked his hand with Ashina's and tugged at it. "Where are we going?" Ashina asked him. "To my dad's mansion, the place you saw me in when you came earlier, that was my room." Gael said. "I figured." Ashina replied. "You know almost everything and you haven't spent a week here." Gael unlinked his arms and kept hopping from left to right. "You're really smart, you know, you talk like an adult at times." Ashina chuckled. She felt connected to him. He w
