CHAPTER 75

Although Richard hesitated initially, he went with Leon to the south after much deliberation. He could not risk the life of his men, so he sent them back to the North. It was something he needed to do alone, and from the look of things, if it was a trap, it was better to fall into it alone. It was a noble but foolish decision, but the best he could think of at the time.

The news of Lucien’s demise came as a shock to him. It filled him with rage, and he couldn’t wait to get to the South to unleash his fury on whichever half-bloods that would cross their path. He barely said anything as they traversed the woods. He was completely on alert. He did not let his guard down even for a moment. No sound went undetected by him in the forest. He was on the lookout for anything and everything that could be harmful.

“You mentioned a relic,” Richard stated as he confirmed they were alone while they found a resting place.

“Yes,” Leon nodded with furrowed brows in thoughtful contemplati

CHAPTER 76It was the dead of the night when Richard and Leon snuck into the temple. It was the temple, Nick explained to them. This was the temple Ryan discovered and wrote about in his letter to Ophelia. They would need to return to this temple to find out more about what was going on, but for now, they needed to focus on the mission, and that was rescuing Ethan. They blended seamlessly with the darkness and walked stealthily through the narrow hallway. They did not need lights as their heightened senses allowed them to perceive their surroundings with ease. It was almost too easy. Richard anticipated a level of resistance or guards to evade, but there was no one. The lack of half-bloods was unnerving. They trudged through the hallway with bated breaths, ready for anything. It could be an ambush they were walking into, and they couldn’t be too safe. They walked a reasonable distance before they saw the silhouette of a man sprawled out on the ground. There were several chains latch

  • The Lone Wolf   CHAPTER 74

CHAPTER 74Richard and his men had just finished with the half-bloods when a cloaked figure emerged from the tree line. The figure looked bloodied as though it had fought its way there. The wolves crouched lower and growled, ready to pounce. The figures stopped some distance away and lifted up their hands in surrender. This did not ease the heart of the threatened warriors, who still had the adrenaline from battle thumping in their veins. They growled even louder but made no move to attack. It was unethical to attack someone in such a manner, so all they did was growl and stare intently, waiting for one wrong move so they could justify their actions.“Richard, I need to speak with you.” The cloaked figure called from a distance. It was quite far, but Richard recognized the voice in an instant. It was the voice of the man they had spent weeks looking for. The traitor in their camp, Leon. Richard was impressed by his audacity to show his face to him after all that he had done. If they

  • The Lone Wolf   CHAPTER 73

CHAPTER 73The moment Cade's skull broke and Cayla saw life fading out of his eyes, something inside of her was shattered. The walls she erected to be able to function crumbled, and a wave of guilt overtook her. She wanted to cry out and scream, but she couldn’t as her neck was grasped tightly by the emperor, who looked to her with a satisfied smile. Her mind was failing to comprehend what she had just witnessed. Her heart was thumping wildly in her chest. Everyone and everything she had ever loved had already died or was now dying before her eyes. They were supposed to be the victors in this battle, not the victims. But now it was like she had led a herd of sheep to their slaughter. “Look at what you've done to all these people. Leading them to an untimely demise. What a waste of life.” The emperor chastised her as he forced her to look at the dead bodies sprawled about. “I am done playing games with you. It’s about time you unite with your dead family. Do you want to know how they

CHAPTER 72Cayla furrowed her brows as she gazed upon the battlefield. There was something wrong. The prince was missing, and the estimated number of mutated humans was severely lacking. It looked like the emperor was expecting them and planned accordingly. She tried to stop Cade, but she was too late. Cade lunged at the emperor, and he did not attempt to evade the attack. It was almost too easy. The wolves were tearing the mutated humans apart, and it was then that she realized the wolves were indeed not ordinary. But then, something happened. Cade plunged the relic into the emperor's heart, and the ground shook. A rift appeared in the world, and a threatening presence was released. Nobody could move. Cade was firmly holding the relic in the emperor’s heart when he broke into a smile, and the next moment, in the blink of an eye, Cade was flying several meters across the sanctum. The emperor's eyes glowed fiercely as he smiled a triumphant smile. I have lived longer than most men. I

  • The Lone Wolf   CHAPTER 71

CHAPTER 71Cayla lit a fire and waited patiently for Cade to rouse from his slumber. To say she was stunned by his arrival would be an understatement. A lot of things weren’t adding up, and she felt so lost—a huge part of her wished that this was all a dream. The thought of losing her entire family was nerve-wracking. The goddess's words echoed in her mind; she was truly at a loss. She didn't even know what to do next. How could she possibly fight a demigod? Yes— she was born with superior magic powers, but to take on a demigod? That was something she never thought possible in her wildest dreams. The words her mother and the goddess said echoed in her mind, “You are never alone.” She sighed in resignation and leaned on one of the wolves to rest, when a pained groan had her sitting back up.“You’re awake!” She said, approaching Cade who was yet to take in his surroundings. His eyes widened like sausages when he saw the wolves they were surrounded by. He instinctively reached for his w

CHAPTER 70 The empire was in disarray. Whoever went into the sanctum did not return the same. It was as if they were mutating into something not human. They looked pale in contrast to their darkened veins, and to everyone’s horror, they began to crave blood. They were stronger and faster than the others. They began to conquer several other places, and whoever they deemed fit was brought back to the emperor and changed by the herb. The Vrykolakas population grew, and the emperor was pleased. The more forces he got, and the stronger they became, the stronger he became. Equally feeding made him stronger. The herb once again began looking like a heart. Slowly but surely, what once resembled a flower now looked like a human heart. The remainder of the human population who were deemed weak were shipped to the lower levels. They were now food for the powerful, and it was a terrible sight. *** Cayla emerged from the waters, and she was surprised she had survived. The waters in the cave

CHAPTER 69 **Cave Of Gods* Emperor Wudivra stood on a path, alone and injured. One moment, he was with General Cade and the other warriors with that darned witch. They had noticed that they were going in circles, and then, the next, a mist appeared, and he was standing here all alone. “Cade!” “Hello.” “What the hell?” He swore as he supported himself against the walls. His resentment for the cave grew, and no one he hated more than the witch who had told him about its existence. If he made it back, he was going to punish her severely. The injuries he sustained were severe, and blood was gushing out of his shoulder blades again. He had somehow reopened his wounds. He heard an unfamiliar voice from nowhere, “I can help you.” He searched for the source but could not find it. It seemed as though his mind was playing tricks. “I am real, and I can help you.” The emperor’s interest was piqued. He knew this cave was dangerous, but he was already dying. There was no harm in indulgi

  • The Lone Wolf   CHAPTER 68

CHAPTER 68 The capital was in an uproar. Echos of the king's valor had spread far and wide. Some revered him, and some feared him. Rumors of something dark having escaped the cave of the gods made their way in silent whispers all around. The fear of what would happen next filled the hearts of the citizens, but there was nothing they could do. They were powerless. The capital welcomed their emperor with fanfare, but not joy. The emperor's previous conquests delighted the citizens, but this filled them with fear and uncertainty. The air around him felt heavy and foreboding, speaking of impending doom. The people lined the streets shouting praise, but their eyes held fear and trepidation. There was something different about the emperor. He had changed. His voice was the same, but it was cold and distant. His presence felt too large, suffocating even, and his movements were too precise. The herb as foretold had healing properties and in no time, the young prince was cured of his afflic
