Chapter 2

Author: Enola Vega
“Let’s go, Tyler.”

Everyone was shocked into silence. Someone said softly, “Ty, are you sure you can win? He’s a sneaky one.”

“Yeah, let’s go,” Tyler said. “Listen up, Henry. If you lose, you’ll have to move out of Levesque Manor.”

“I won’t lose.”

In the end, we each took ten shots, and all of them went in. We were tied.

Tyler’s expression grew darker and darker as he pushed us to make every shot count.

I threw the basketball to him. “I’m out!”

I turned to leave.

All afternoon, I kept feeling eyes on my back. He clearly was not happy with how things turned out.

As I waited at the school gates, Tyler glared at me. “Don’t tattle on me when you get home.”

I smiled. “Everything comes with a price. What’ll you give me in return?”

It was obvious that Tyler had not expected me to fight back. He breathed heavily and gritted his teeth.

“Just name it.”

But I could not be bothered with something so childish.

The night passed uneventfully.

The next day, Tyler did not pull any more pranks. It did not seem like him. He was probably just planning something bigger.

After school, I was heading to the bookstore nearby for some stuff when gangsters blocked my way.

“Are you Henry Levesque?”

I retreated to a huge tree and ducked behind it to try to flee.

But it was too late. The gangsters came up and started beating me up.

“Stop!”

Just then, a teacher walked by, and the gangsters ran off.

The teacher called my parents just when we were having dinner.

Natalie looked at my bruised forehead and asked, “Why did you lie to me, Henry? You said you tripped! Why didn’t you tell me that someone was bullying you?”

She turned to Tyler. “Did you know about this, Tyler? Why didn’t you walk home with Henry?”

Tyler put down his spoon and fork with a clatter. His face was cloudy.

“What does that have to do with me? All I know is that you guys don’t like me anymore.”

He stomped upstairs.

After finishing my homework, I went out to the balcony for some air.

“Don’t think even for a second that I’ll thank you for keeping your mouth shut. You ruined my life and took away what belongs to me! I hate you.”

I turned to Tyler and calmly stared at him.

“I won’t be living here for long. I’ll move out after I graduate from high school. I’m not interested in the Levesque family’s assets, so you don’t have to be wary of me.”

It was obvious that he did not believe me.

“I’ve met a lot of people like you. You’re all liars!”

“Believe what you want.”

I went back to my room and closed the door.

After the first midterm, I ended up with the highest grade. Tyler looked like he was ready to kill.

When we got home, Natalie asked me to tutor him.

Surprisingly, he agreed to it.

He must clearly be cooking up another scheme to use against me.

I went to his room at the agreed time.

There were lots of model airplanes all over his room. The walls were peppered with posters of sports stars.

Tyler paused his game and shot me a glance.

“I don’t want to be tutored. I know what you think of me. Why would I need a diploma? The Levesque family has enough money for me to waste for a lifetime.”

“Great. I don’t want to look at you either.”

I turned to leave.

Suddenly, he reached the door and blocked my way. He then locked the door.

His gaze was sinister and dark.

He reached out and grabbed me by the chin.

“Don’t go yet. Let’s play a game.”

I grabbed his wrist and met his eyes. I stepped forward.

“Sure. I’m not scared of you.”

He pressed me into a chair. “You won’t be able to leave after this. We’re having a biology class today.”

Tyler turned his laptop on. An adult video was playing on it. The suggestive noise coming from the speaker made my face go red.

Tyler was prepared. He calmly waited to watch me embarrass myself.

I pressed my lips tightly together as I felt strangely aroused.

“You’re going too far, Tyler.”

Tyler snickered. He looked me up and down before resting his gaze somewhere down.

“That’s a pretty huge reaction. We’re both guys here. It’s not like I’m forcing you to do this. We’re just sharing what we like.

“Don’t tell me this is new to you. Tsk, tsk… It’s kind of sad for someone with a face like yours.”

I jumped up, stumbled, and flung the door open. Somehow, I managed to escape to my room.

I leaned back against the door with my heart pounding in my chest.

‘Tyler’s such a nuisance! There’s really no escaping him,’ I thought to myself.

Tyler’s mocking voice sounded through the door. “Hey, Henry, let’s continue with our lessons tomorrow! I’ll be waiting for you! If you don’t show up, it just means you’re not willing to help me out. I’m not the one being stubborn here!”

When Natalie asked about the tutoring, I told her I would rather do the lessons in the living room.

Tyler acted like he did not mind.

“Sure! I’ll agree with whatever you want.”

He lay on the couch and put a hand to his forehead. “Ah, my head is killing me!”

I tidied up my things. “You’re overreacting!”

He followed me up the stairs.

“Doesn’t matter as long as it works.”

“You’re so childish.”

“And you’re a phony.”

Marcus was livid. “Alright, Henry. You’re the Levesque family’s true heir, but what have you ever gotten? Look at Tyler! He gets everything he wants. What’s left for you? Why don’t you work for me instead and let Tyler, the thief of all that belongs to you, get what’s coming to him?”Then, he added, “Don’t you hate him?”I snickered. “You talk like a cartoon villain, Mr. Kane, but I must say, you’re pretty good at the divide and conquer thing.”Marcus got even angrier at that. “You asked for this!” He called for someone to throw me down the cliff.I had already sent an encrypted message with the formula to Tyler. My job was done. Standing by the edge of the cliff, I said, “Mr. Kane, I’ve recorded our conversation and already sent it to Tyler. I’m very happy that my death will eliminate one of the Levesque family’s rivals.”The people who had abducted me looked shocked. As they stared in a daze, I stepped forward. “Hold it right there!” said a very familiar voice.Tyler

I wanted this nightmare to end. I felt like I had taken a tour of hell. Rage and shame flooded me like the waves in a churning sea. I lay in bed for two days and was unresponsive. After Tyler sobered up, he knelt beside my bed and slapped himself over and over again until he started to bleed.“Please, don’t do that. I’m scared. Get a hold of yourself, okay? I’ll do anything you want. Everything in the Levesque family is yours. I’m yours too. What’s wrong with me loving someone? Henry, you coward! What does it matter if I slept with you? You can do it to me too! I swear I’ll just lie there. I won’t fight it.“Say something! You always had a retort ready in the past.”Tyler took out my passport and ID and put them by the bed. “There, you can have them back. You’re free!”He caressed my forehead gently. I closed my eyes but did not make a move. I felt numb. …After a few days, Tyler came to my room with a bunch of paperwork.“Henry, if you do nothing and lie in bed all day

“It’s me, Amelia Berkley!”Memories from my youth hit me like a freight train. I smiled at Amelia politely. “It’s been a long time.”“Come on, Henry, I’ll buy you lunch. It’ll be like a welcome home meal. Also, I wanted to apologize to you about what happened back then.”Amelia came up to me and grabbed me by the arm, but I avoided her grip. I smiled tightly. “There’s no need for that. I’m a little busy. Let’s take a rain check on that.”But Amelia was not going to give up. She grabbed me by the arm and pulled me away. Just as I was trying to escape her, Tyler emerged. His face darkened.“In a rush to reignite your old relationship, are you? Let go of him, Amelia.”Tyler pulled me toward him with force. “I know you’re very busy, Amelia. We won’t disturb you.”Tyler shoved me into his car before I could protest. “We’re going home.”I felt like I did not have any choice at all. I wanted to hit Tyler so badly. “What’s wrong with you, Tyler? Don’t you think even for a m

“How do you plan to make it up to me then? Are you going to throw yourself at me? Or maybe promise to serve me forever?”Thinking about the kiss from last time, I stood there in a daze.“Uh… get some rest, Tyler. Good night.”I turned to leave. Suddenly, he wrapped his arms around me from behind and jumped onto my back.I stumbled and nearly fell. His arms circled my neck as his head tilted to look at me.“You don’t want to do either of those? Well, how about a kiss? That’s the least you could do.”My face turned red in anger and embarrassment. “There’s something wrong with you, Tyler. You’re gross and unhinged.”I shook him off and stormed out.He laughed loudly behind me in amusement.“I was just joking, Henry! You have no sense of humor at all. You’re no fun to tease.”…A few months later, our finals ended. I got to go abroad to study, just like I wanted. Tyler was busy with something the whole time. I did not see him until I was boarding the plane.I returned

I was heading home a little later than usual, so I had to walk to a subway station a little farther away.I had just turned into an alley when two dark figures approached me with weapons in hand.I spun around to run when two more people came up behind me and blocked my way. This must be another of Tyler’s schemes. “Get Tyler over here! If he wants to fight me, he should face me himself! Stop with these cheap tricks!”But the guys did not respond. It was clear they were not here to plan a tea party. A low, vicious voice said, “You clueless punk! Get him!”I was surrounded, and their fists rained down on me. I was in so much pain that I felt like I was going to break apart. Tyler was really going all in this time. These guys were not holding back. “Stop!” said a familiar voice. “Well, if it isn’t the Levesque boy. You’re just in time! We’ll deal with both of you together.”I heard a commotion and some squeaks of pain. Then, someone walked over and helped me up. “You w

That day, I was waiting for a ride by the side of the street when Amelia Berkley, with her hair in a braid, walked over to me, clutching her backpack.“Henry, I like you,” she said. Her gaze was expectant. I was stunned into silence. I instinctively took a step back.“Sorry, I’m in a hurry. Please excuse me.”I ran. Tyler crossed the street and approached me with a lollipop in his mouth. “Why are you in such a hurry, Henry? You’re going the wrong way.” Tyler threw his arm around me and led me back to Amelia. “Hey, beautiful. Do you really like him? Kiss him then! He’ll be yours once you do.”Tyler pushed me forward. I tried to avoid crashing into Amelia and stumbled awkwardly.Unfortunately, I crashed into her anyway, and we both ended up on the ground.Amelia scrambled back up. Her face flushed bright red. She seemed both embarrassed and angry. “You’re disgusting!”Amelia glared at me and ran off. I opened my mouth to call after her but did not know how I was goin
