LOGINAs soon as we stepped into the parlor, Aiden turned to the stairs to head back to his room, but I grabbed his wrist to stop him. “W-why don't you sit here, and let me bring your lunch? When you're done eating, we can take a stroll in the garden to get some fresh air.”His eyes went down to his wrist where I held him, causing me to retreat my hand. “I'm not hungry.”Right.“I know you're not hungry, but you need to eat. I made oatmeal porridge. It's light, so you won't have a problem eating it.”Huff. Thank God I didn't stutter this time.“I said I'm not hungry.” He replied curtly and turned to leave, but I caught his wrist once again. This time I held it firmly and didn't let go when his eyes went there again. “Please.” I mumbled quietly and that seemed to do the trick. He hesitated for a few seconds, searching my eyes before releasing his hand from my grasp and going to sit on the sofa.“Thank you.” A small smile appeared on my lips as I ran upstairs to his room to get the food and
I wanted the ground to open up and swallow me at how ashamed I felt as he threw my words right back at me. I knew something like this was going to happen. I thought I was prepared for his coldness. But hearing it from him drained every little bit of courage I had managed to gather before coming in.It hurt that he took what I said to heart. He doesn't suffocate me. “You don't – I did not– I–I” I clamped my mouth shut and bit down on my lip to stop myself from humiliating myself anymore than I already had. “I'm sorry. I'm so sorry, Aiden. I didn't– I didn't mean everything I said. I swear I didn't mean it.”There, I finally said it.I finally let it out. But why wasn't he saying anything? My nerves started kicking in at his silence. Why is he silent? Why isn't he saying anything? Is the apology not enough? He can hear the sincerity and remorse in my voice, right? He can feel how sorry I am, can't he?I was dying for him to say something. Anything. Why wasn't he talking? “Aiden, I'm s
*Aiden's POV*“Aiden! Seriously, why didn't you have your breakfast this morning? And what am I hearing about you stopping Rowan from treating you again?” “Not now, Toby,” I groaned as I stood up from the bed and headed to the bathroom. I wasn't in the mood for his scolding or ranting. “Are you serious now? He has only treated your wound twice, and you've stopped him from coming? Why are you so fucking stubborn?”I came out of the bathroom and sat down in the chair beside the bed. “I don't have an appetite.”He scoffed. “What about your wound then? Why didn't you let Rowan treat it?”“There's no use in the treatment. We'll know it not going to do anything for the wound.” I said, feeling completely exhausted. I wasn't used to being tired and idle. I hadn't done anything today, but it felt as though I had carried tons of bricks. The attacks were to blame for that. I couldn't even close my eyes throughout the night.“Even if it can't heal the wound, it could at least reduce the pain yo
I dropped the basket on the table as I entered the parlor. There was no sign of anyone, but I wasn't surprised, and I was grateful for it. Aiden must be up in his room, so I just had to prepare this quickly. “Arya!”No answer.“Arya!” I called out louder this time. I wondered where she was.The door to the parlor opened and she came inside. “Yes, Luna.”“Um, we have a mortar and pestle in the manor, yes?”“Yes,” she answered.“Could you bring it here for me…?” Here? Should I really prepare the medicine here? It would be too open, and I didn't want that. “You know what, put it in the kitchen for me.” Arya had a puzzled look on her face, but she nodded nevertheless and left.I stood up from the sofa and left for the kitchen. I was admiring the kitchen while waiting for Arya to bring the mortar. “Here it is,” she muttered, placing the mortar and pestle on the floor.“Thank you,” I muttered quietly, gesturing for her to leave before drawing a nearby stool so I could sit on it.“Your bei
“Um… This should be enough.” Isaac mumbled quietly as he put the Moon leaves and Bloodroot leaves he had into a basket and handed it over to me. “Thank you,” I whispered as I collected the basket for him. I really hoped this leaves would work on his wound and help heal it. I still haven't gone to him. After finding out that he was experiencing the wrath of a damage bond because of what I said, I just couldn't bring myself to see him. I didn't think I could even look him in the eye without loathing myself for my mistake. But I couldn't avoid him and run away from my guilt forever. I was the cause of his pain, so I had to do everything I could to make sure his wound healed and find a way to stop the wrath. I was the least I could do. Which was why I was standing here in the herbal field, cutting the leaves I could apply to the wound to help it heal. “Rowan, can I ask you something?” “Yes, sure.” He nodded gently as he picked some other leaves for me. “Um…” I cleared my throat.
Do you know that feeling when you were so very sure and adamant about something despite being told that you may be wrong, and then suddenly you found out you were actually wrong? That feeling. That shame that would make you not want to show your face to anyone. That was exactly how I was feeling now.Since the night I found out that the pain I felt was Aiden’s and not Liam's, I avoided seeing him. I'd practiced my apology, imagine how I was going to say it, but now I couldn't bring myself to go to him. I wanted cry over how wrong I had been this whole time. I was drowning in so much guilt right now.The most painful part was that he got injured while trying to make me happy, and I immediately thought it was Liam. Then I ended up hurting him twice. It was all my fault. He was injured right now because of me, and I wanted to see him, but guilt and shame wouldn't let me. I wondered how he was doing.Someone knocked at the door. “Luna, breakfast is ready.” Arya announced from the other s
