Chapter 2

Author: Peachy
Aria's POV

“I need a formal separation.” At the Pack Registry, I pushed the severance papers across the desk. My voice was calm.

“I’m sorry, ma’am.” He pushed the papers back. “I can’t process this for you.”

“Why not?” I frowned. “According to pack law, I have the right to file for a unilateral…”

“It’s not about the law.” The clerk swallowed hard and pointed at the heavy leather ledger. “It’s because… in the Pack Registry, you were never the Luna of the Silverpaw pack.”

I froze.

“The records show that Alpha Caleb only marked you. He never filed the paperwork.” The clerk lowered his voice. “Officially, the two of you were never mated.”

It didn’t count.

My mind roared. In that one second, everything I believed in turned to ash.

Behind me, two guards sorting files started whispering.

“See? I told you. No way the Alpha was going to let some common herbalist be his real Luna.”

“I remember that day two years ago. The Alpha said it himself: ‘Since I can’t have the woman I truly want, I won’t stain the sacred records with another woman’s name.’”

The woman I truly want.

His adoptive sister, Chloe?

He used me as a shield to clear the way for Chloe and Rowan.

And he couldn't even give me the title. He thought my name would tarnish his precious record.

I stood there, digging my nails into my palms until they broke the skin.

After a few seconds, I laughed.

The last shred of hope inside me shattered into dust.

Of course. Caleb had saved me the trouble of a formal separation.

No bond. No legal ties.

I could walk away clean. Anytime I wanted.

“Thank you.” I took back the form and walked out.

I didn’t go back to the villa. I went straight to the bus station on the south side of town.

“One ticket to the Human Neutral Zone.” I pushed the last of my cash through the window.

“The soonest is in four days.”

“I’ll take it.”

Four days.

In four days, I would be gone forever. I’d go to my Aunt Diana, who ran a botanical sanctuary.

The moment I held that thin paper ticket, I let out a long breath.

It felt like I could breathe again.

That evening, I returned to the luxurious prison he called a home.

As I reached the main gate, I ran right into Caleb and Chloe, laughing and talking.

Guards followed them, hands full of designer shopping bags. Chloe was wearing a brand-new couture dress, looking like a spoiled princess.

And there I was. In a thin black coat, my face as pale as a ghost.

My face went cold. I walked straight past them.

“Aria.”

Caleb caught up, pulling off his own overcoat and wrapping it tightly around me. He pulled me into a half-embrace.

He frowned, his voice full of worry and blame.

“Why aren’t you in bed?” He sighed, gently tucking a loose strand of my hair behind my ear. “You just had the procedure. You’re weak. The wind is so strong out here, what if you get sick?”

He sounded so sincere. Like I was actually the treasure he held closest to his heart.

“Caleb, maybe Aria just wanted some fresh air,” Chloe chimed in, her voice sweet but her eyes glinting with challenge.

I pulled my arm back. My voice was flat. “Just taking a walk.”

Caleb’s fingers grasped at empty air.

He was used to my gentle obedience. My coldness clearly threw him off.

A flicker of annoyance, of his control being challenged, crossed his eyes before he masked it with that perfect, loving facade.

“Don’t be stubborn with your health.” His voice softened, like he was coaxing a child. “I had the kitchen make you a rich healing broth. Go back to your room and rest. I’ll bring it up to you myself.”

I ignored him and walked upstairs.

Night fell.

My bedroom door opened. Caleb walked in, carrying a steaming bowl of tonic.

He set the bowl down and came over, half-lifting, half-guiding me to the table.

“Drink it while it’s hot.” His tone was flawless. He even picked up the spoon and stirred it gently. “The kitchen simmered this all afternoon with the best herbs. I told them to add extra calming herbs. It will help you recover.”

I looked down at the dark red liquid.

Then I looked up at Caleb.

He held me in a loose embrace, but his eyes—those eyes that always stared at me with such deep love—were flickering away.

He couldn't meet my gaze.

I looked at his perfect, fake expression, and my heart turned to ice.

  • The Luna He Marked To Silence the Truth   Chapter 20

Caleb's POVOn the northern border, the snow came earlier than usual this year. The wind threw icy pellets against the windshield of the SUV."Alpha, here's the battle report from the Rogue stronghold," my Beta second-in-command said, handing me the file. His voice was low. He didn't dare look at me.I took the file, glanced at the numbers, signed it, and tossed it onto the passenger seat.My Beta turned up the heat, but he still didn't speak. He didn't know, and he didn't dare ask, about the necklace I'd been clutching in my coat pocket for the entire drive. It was old, the plating worn and dull, a tiny crack on one edge.A cheap thing I’d bought years ago with my first Alpha stipend.I never thought this necklace would become my only comfort.Late at night, when the camp was quiet, I would sit alone in the truck, rubbing it between my fingers for hours.I'd close my eyes and see her again, at that Pack Full Moon Party. The lights, the music, the crowd. And her, in a white dress, the

Aria's POVRain hammered against the windowpane.I pulled back the curtains. A man was standing under the eaves across the street.Soaked to the bone. Motionless. Like a gray stone statue. It was Caleb.I threw on a coat, grabbed an umbrella, and went down into the rain."How long have you been standing here?" I stopped in front of him. The umbrella shielded most of his face.He looked up. His eyes were as red as if they'd been soaked in blood. Rain, or something else, dripped down his jaw. The once-proud Alpha was now just a pathetic, sodden mess."I wanted to see you one more time," his voice was shaking. "Aria, please. Just look at me. Please."His tone, his expression... it was exactly the same as when he used to wrap his lies in a package of false devotion.I stared at him for a long time. I couldn't even summon the energy to be angry.I pushed the umbrella into his hand."Caleb, I don't hate you." My voice was flat. A final verdict. "But I will never love you again. My wolf has R

Aria's POVThe party ended close to midnight.Julian opened the car door for me, but he didn't start the engine."Not driving tonight," he said, loosening his tie and tossing it in the back seat. "Let's walk. It's only a few blocks."I frowned. "You've been drinking.""It's an excuse," he said with a lazy smile, but his eyes held a seriousness I couldn't quite read. "Walk with me."The night air was cool. The streetlights stretched our shadows long behind us.We walked side by side, neither of us mentioning the showdown at the party, or Caleb's grim face, or Rowan's trembling hands."You didn't have to help me today. I could have handled it myself," I joked, trying to break the silence."I know," Julian said, turning to look at me, a slight smile on his lips. "Just helping out. Taking out the trash for you.""Helping out?""Mmm, helping out," he repeated, his tone so light it made it sound like nothing, but it was strangely comforting. He stopped when we reached my apartment building.

Aria's POV"These are rare healing herbs. You've always been weak, you need to build up your strength."The security guard had stopped him, but his voice still carried through the glass doors into the lobby.I saw the whole scene as I was passing through.Caleb stood at the entrance, the hem of his trench coat flapping in the wind. He held a paper bag, his eyes filled with a hopeful, almost fawning look."Please, just give this to her. I had someone bring these rare herbs from the border," he said to the guard, his voice stripped of all its former Alpha command, leaving only a pathetic plea.I didn't stop. I walked right past him."Aria," he called my name, his voice trembling with hope.I didn't look back. The guard tried to hand me the bag. I waved him off. "Throw it away."From behind me, I heard a soft, muffled sound, like something being crushed. This scene had repeated itself countless times over the past two weeks.Another time, I was at the pharmacy downstairs when I saw Rowan

  • The Luna He Marked To Silence the Truth   Chapter 16

Aria's POVThe numbers on the report blurred together.I'd been staring at the screen for five minutes and hadn't read a single word. The Council mandate was issued three days ago.The Alpha of Silverpaw, who was supposed to remain in his territory for two full years, petitioned the Lycan Council to leave his territory early. He cited Pack merits.I read the notice over and over, then crumpled it up and threw it in the trash. It didn't matter if he came or not. That's what I told myself. But for the next few days, I found myself strangely sensitive to every footstep outside my office. This afternoon, my assistant knocked and came in, a strange look on her face."Ms. Aria, there's a gentleman downstairs to see you." She paused, lowering her voice. "He says his name is Caleb."The hand holding my pen froze. The nib dug into the report, leaving a sharp, black line."Send him up," I heard myself say. My voice was flat. So flat, it sounded like a stranger's.When the elevator doors opened,

  • The Luna He Marked To Silence the Truth   Chapter 15

Aria's POV"Okay." I looked into Julian's deep eyes and said the word.No hesitation. No lingering attachment to the past.A week later, Julian and I arrived in the Lycan Capital. The air here smelled of money and power. But with Julian's powerful backing, I didn't have to look up to anyone. The top families and the Council's procurement officers all came to me.In just over a year, my pharmaceutical company grew like a force of nature, growing into the largest botanical supplier in the Capital. My healing remedies became exclusive to the Lycan Royal Court.I was completely independent.I sent Aunt Diana huge dividends. The numbers in my bank account were enough to buy any mansion in the Capital.I sometimes heard news of people I used to know.Chloe had gone mad. Caleb had personally sent her to a remote mental institution on the border, permanently stripping her of the Pack name. She was now a true Rogue, despised by all.The day I heard that news, I was drinking black coffee by my p
