Nadia

The pack council reached its decision on Draven two weeks later. I wasn't required to attend, but my father insisted I sit in, part of learning what leadership actually looked like once the fighting was over.

"Permanent exile," the council leader announced, "stripped of any claim to Alpha status, banished beyond all three allied territories with tracking measures in place should he attempt to return. His remaining followers will be offered reintegration into legitimate packs, provided they renounce any loyalty to him formally."

Draven, brought in under heavy guard for the ruling, showed no visible reaction beyond a slow, tired nod. His eyes found mine briefly across the room before guards led him away, and something passed between us that wasn't quite forgiveness, but wasn't hostility either. Just an ending, plain and final.

"How do you feel about the ruling?" my father asked afterward, walking with me from the council hall.

"Fair," I said, after considering it honestly. "He caused real harm. Exile feels right. I don't think I wanted revenge, exactly. Just an end to it."

"That's a wiser response than most people twice your age would manage," my father said. "I'm proud of how you've handled all of this, Nadia. Not just the fighting. The parts after it, too."

With Draven's threat formally resolved, life settled into something closer to ordinary, though ordinary now included pack council meetings, border reports, and the slow process of learning what it meant to eventually lead Royal territory myself. Graduation arrived faster than expected, the last stretch of school passing in a blur of exams and quiet, ordinary moments that felt almost strange after months of danger.

"Can you believe we're actually finishing this?" Priya asked, the two of us sitting on the bleachers during our free period, the same bleachers where Kade and I had first really talked months earlier. "Feels like a lifetime ago that you were the mysterious new girl avoiding everyone."

"A lot happened in one school year."

"Understatement of the decade." Priya nudged my shoulder. "You excited? Officially done with hiding, officially bonded, officially about to be some kind of important Alpha figure?"

"Terrified," I admitted, laughing. "But excited too. Both, completely, all the time now, I think."

"Sounds about right for you."

Graduation day arrived warm and bright, the ceremony smaller and simpler than the bonding celebration months earlier, though it carried its own quiet significance. My father attended, along with Kade and both our families, watching from the crowd as I walked across the stage to collect a diploma that felt strange to hold after everything else that had happened during the school year it represented.

"Just a normal high school diploma," I said afterward, studying it with something between amusement and disbelief. "After everything, it feels almost anticlimactic."

"I think that's the point," Kade said, pulling me close. "Not everything has to be dramatic. Some things get to just be normal now."

"I like that idea."

We walked together through the celebrating crowd, Priya pulling me into a fierce hug, promising to visit Royal territory regularly now that school no longer structured our schedules the same way. My father watched with quiet pride, and Alpha Ashford clapped Kade firmly on the shoulder, already discussing formal training schedules for stepping more fully into Ashford leadership alongside his own eventual role in Royal territory.

That evening, after the celebrations finally wound down, Kade and I found ourselves back at the tree line, the familiar spot that had become something like a home base for the two of us through everything that happened this year.

"End of one chapter," Kade said, settling beside me on the fence. "Start of a much bigger one."

"Ready for it?"

"With you, always." He glanced at me, something soft and certain in his expression. "Any final thoughts, looking back at everything since that first sparring class?"

I considered the question seriously, thinking back through all of it — the hiding, the fear, the fated pull I hadn't understood, the danger that had tested us and somehow strengthened us instead of breaking anything. "I think I'm grateful," I said finally. "For all of it, even the frightening parts. If my father hadn't let me go to that school, if I hadn't been paired with you that first day, none of this happens. I stay hidden, maybe safe, but never really living."

"Your father made the right call, letting you go."

"He did," I agreed. "Even though it terrified him. I think that's what real leadership actually looks like, honestly. Not eliminating every risk, but trusting the people you're protecting enough to let them grow into who they're meant to become."

Kade nodded slowly, considering that. "Lesson for both of us, I think. Something we'll need eventually, leading our own territories."

"We've got time to learn it properly."

"We do," he agreed, pulling me closer as the evening settled warm and quiet around us. "A whole future's worth of time, actually."

I rested against him, watching the last light fade over the trees, thinking about everything that had led to this exact moment — the fear that once defined nearly every part of my life, replaced now by something steadier, surer, built through choice instead of hiding.

"What do you think happens next?" I asked. "Really, practically. Beyond just us."

"Training, mostly," Kade said. "Learning to properly lead our territories eventually. Strengthening the alliance further, probably. Maybe helping some of Draven's old followers actually find real homes in legitimate packs." He paused, smiling slightly. "And probably a lot more paperwork than either of us is prepared for."

I laughed, the sound easy and unguarded in a way it never could have been a year earlier. "Sounds like a full life."

"The best kind, I think." He kissed my forehead gently, certainty steady in every word. "Whatever comes next, we build it together. Same as always."

"Together," I agreed, settling into the quiet evening beside him, no more secrets left to carry, no more hiding left to do.

Just Nadia and Kade, standing at the start of everything still ahead of them, finally, completely ready to meet it.

NadiaSummer settled over Royal territory differently than any I remembered before. For the first time, I wasn't hidden away behind the estate walls, watching the world pass by from a window. I split my days between formal leadership training with my father and travel between the three allied territories, learning the details of governance no tutor had ever prepared me for."Trade agreements," my father said, sliding a thick folder across his desk one morning, "are considerably less exciting than fighting rogue Alphas, but arguably more important long-term.""I'm starting to understand why you always looked so tired after meetings.""Welcome to the less glamorous side of leadership." He smiled, though there was real pride behind it. "You're handling it well, though. Better than I expected this early."Kade's training kept him equally busy at Ashford territory, though we managed to coordinate schedules enough to spend most evenings together, splitting time between both estates dependin

NadiaThree weeks after the ceremony, life began settling into a rhythm neither of us had experienced before — official, structured, and entirely new. I split my time between finishing my last stretch of school and shadowing my father during Royal Pack business, learning the parts of leadership that had nothing to do with fighting and everything to do with patience."Territory disputes are rarely about territory," my father explained one afternoon, reviewing a minor boundary complaint from a smaller allied pack. "They're about respect. Handle the respect, and the land usually settles itself.""That sounds exhausting.""It is," he admitted, smiling slightly. "Welcome to leadership."Kade split his own time similarly between Ashford territory and Royal grounds, the two of us often crossing paths mid-afternoon between separate meetings, stealing a few minutes together before returning to entirely different responsibilities."This is the least romantic part of being bonded mates," he said

NadiaThe morning of the ceremony arrived clear and bright, Royal territory already alive with activity by the time I woke. Priya arrived early, invited personally despite having no pack ties, practically vibrating with excitement as she helped me get ready."I still can't believe I get to see this in person," she said, fussing with the fabric of my dress. "My best friend, bonding to an Alpha heir, in an actual ceremony with three packs watching. Six months ago you were just the quiet new girl who ate lunch alone.""A lot's changed in six months.""Understatement of the century." She stepped back, studying the finished look with satisfaction. "You look incredible, by the way. Kade's not going to know what hit him."I smiled, nerves and excitement tangled together in a way that made it hard to sit still. "Thank you for being here.""Wouldn't have missed it," she said simply. "Now come on. You've got a ceremony to get to."---The grounds behind the main house had been transformed since

NadiaThe formal bonding ceremony was set for the following month, giving both packs time to prepare and giving me time to adjust to a life that no longer required hiding anything about myself. My father handled most of the political details, while Kade's mother, Alpha Ashford's wife, insisted on helping with the parts that had nothing to do with politics at all."Every bonding ceremony needs proper preparation," she said, arriving at Royal territory with fabric samples and a notebook full of plans. "Not just the formal exchange. The celebration after matters too, especially given everything the two of you have already survived together.""I don't need anything elaborate," I said, though I appreciated the effort."Nonsense. You spent eighteen years without a single normal celebration in your honor. Let us fix that." She smiled warmly, already sketching ideas. "Besides, three allied packs deserve a proper reason to celebrate something joyful, after everything with Draven."I couldn't a

  • The Luna He Rejected, The Queen He Lost   Chapter 16

NadiaWe returned to Royal territory by mid-afternoon, exhaustion settling deep into my bones despite the relief carried by everyone around me. Draven and the surviving rogues who'd surrendered were escorted under heavy guard toward a secure holding facility on Row's land, neutral ground agreed upon by all three pack leaders. My father insisted on a healer checking my shoulder the moment we arrived, though the wound turned out shallow enough to close within days without any lasting damage."You'll have a scar," the healer said, finishing the wrap. "Small one.""I don't mind," I said, and meant it. It felt earned, in a strange way, the first real mark from finally standing in the fight instead of hiding from it.Kade stayed close through all of it, quiet but present, hovering in the doorway while the healer worked, then sitting beside me afterward while my father handled the flood of messages arriving from all three territories."You should rest," Kade said eventually."I don't think
