ログインChapter 6 – The Cell Beneath the Pack
Three sharp knocks echoed through my room. Knock. Knock. Knock. "Aria," Kael called from the other side. "Open the door." I looked at the packed bag hidden beneath my bed. Had they found out? My heart pounded so loudly I thought they could hear it through the door. Taking a deep breath, I opened it. Kael stood there with Ronan and Ezra. Behind them were four warriors in full armor. The sight made my stomach sink. Four warriors. Not one. Not two. Four. As though I were a dangerous criminal. Kael's expression was unreadable. "The elders have ordered another investigation." I laughed bitterly. "Another one?" "Yes." "What did Selene accuse me of this time?" No one answered. That silence was enough. The warriors searched my room from top to bottom. They opened every drawer. Every chest. Every cabinet. One of them knelt beside my bed. "No..." I whispered. He reached underneath. My bag. He pulled it out. Inside were a few dresses, my parents' journal, the old map, and a small pouch of silver coins. The room became deathly quiet. Kael slowly picked up the map. "What is this?" I didn't answer. Ronan unfolded it. His face darkened. "It's the northern escape route." Ezra stared at me in disbelief. "You were leaving?" I looked each of them in the eye. "Yes." Kael's jaw tightened. "You were running away." "No." "I was escaping." His eyes flashed with anger. "From us?" "From people who no longer trust me." For a moment, no one spoke. Then Kael crushed the map in his fist. "You are forbidden to leave this pack." "I don't belong here anymore." "You are still our mate." I smiled sadly. "Only when it's convenient for you." Ezra stepped forward. "We can fix this." I shook my head. "No." "You stopped trying the moment you chose to believe her." Before anyone could say another word, hurried footsteps echoed down the hallway. A guard burst into the room. "Alpha!" Kael turned. "What is it?" The guard bowed quickly. "Lady Selene has collapsed!" All three of my mates rushed out without another glance at me. Not one. Not even Ezra. Within seconds, they were gone. I stood alone. Watching the open door. Watching the empty hallway. Even after discovering I had planned to leave... They still ran to her first. That answered every question my heart still carried. Less than an hour later, the warriors returned. "The elders have made their decision." "What decision?" "You are to be moved." "Where?" None of them answered. Two stepped behind me. Another took my wrists. Cold silver chains clicked shut around them. I gasped. Silver. The metal burned against my skin. Luna whimpered inside me. "It hurts..." "I know," I whispered. They led me through the pack house. Pack members stopped to stare. Some whispered. Others openly laughed. "Look." "They finally arrested her." "I knew she was guilty." "What kind of Luna tries to run?" Children pointed at me. Women shook their heads. Warriors who once saluted me now looked at me with disgust. Every step felt heavier than the last. Instead of leading me to the east wing... They walked toward the oldest part of the pack. Few people ever went there. Massive iron doors stood beneath the council hall. The guards opened them. A wave of cold air hit my face. Underground. My heart skipped. "No..." One warrior avoided my gaze. "I'm sorry, Lady Aria." "This isn't my decision." Stone stairs disappeared into darkness. At the bottom lay rows of prison cells. The place smelled of damp stone, rust, and despair. "This is where rogue wolves are kept," I whispered. No one denied it. The heavy cell door creaked open. "Inside." I didn't move. Kael appeared behind the warriors. His face looked tired. "This is temporary." I turned to him. "You said that when they took my title." "You said that when they froze my inheritance." "You said that when they questioned my wolf." "You said that when they locked me in the Silver Wing." "And now..." I looked around the filthy prison. "You call this temporary too?" Kael lowered his eyes. "I'll get you out once the truth is found." A tear slid down my cheek. "When you finally find the truth..." "You may not find me." For the first time since all this began, pain flashed across his face. Real pain. But it came far too late. The guards pushed me into the cell. The iron door slammed shut. The sound echoed through the underground prison. Bang! A lock clicked into place. Then another. Then another. I slowly sank onto the cold stone floor. Above me, I could hear faint footsteps as everyone walked away. No one looked back. No one stayed. No one chose me. I wrapped my arms around myself as Luna's weak voice echoed in my mind. "We're alone." I closed my eyes, tears falling silently. "Not forever." Somewhere beyond these walls, the truth still existed. And one day... The people who buried me in darkness would watch me rise into the light. The woman standing beyond the torn sky looked exactly like Arielle. For several heartbeats, nobody spoke. There was no resemblance to explain away.No small difference in her eyes.No different scar.No altered voice. She was Arielle. And yet she was not.Cassian moved first. He stepped in front of his wife, sword already in his hand.Stay behind me.The woman looked at him.A sad smile touched her lips. You always do that.Cassian tightened his grip.Do what?Stand between her and everything that frightens her.The woman looked at Arielle. You never changed.Cassian's expression hardened.I have never met you.The woman's smile disappeared. But I have known you longer than she thinks.Arielle stepped around Cassian.Who are you?The woman's eyes met hers.I am the life you refused.Arielle felt Elias shift against her chest. She held him tighter.I did not refuse you.The woman laughed softly. You chose. And that was enough.Behind the woman, the broken sky began showing images.Arie
The sky opened. Not with thunder. Not with lightning. It opened like a wound.Arielle stood frozen beneath it, Elias pressed against her chest while billions of faces stared down from the darkness. Each face belonged to a life that had never happened.A mother who had never held her child.A king who had never inherited a throne.A girl who had never met the person she was supposed to love.A man who had never been born.A world that had never seen its first sunrise. They were all possibilities. And now they were awake.Cassian tightened his grip on his sword.Arielle.I know. What do we do?Arielle looked at Elias. For once, she had no answer. She had fought gods. She had destroyed the Creator's throne. She had faced the Hunger, the First Fear, the Unchosen, and the forces that existed before existence. But this was different. These beings were not enemies. They were lives.Lives that believed they had been denied the right to exist.Elias suddenly lifted his head. They are angry.Ar
For several minutes, nobody moved. The words remained suspended above them.HE IS A CHOICE.Arielle looked down at Elias. He was still smiling. His tiny hands were wrapped around the edge of her dress, completely unaware that the universe had just declared him something it could no longer predict.Cassian stepped closer.Arielle.She looked at him. What?Something is wrong. Her eyes moved across the sky.The stars were still there. The moon was still there. The world looked normal. But Arielle could feel it.Something had changed. Not outside them.Inside the rules of existence.Adrian slowly stood.I can't see him anymore.Kael looked at his brother. You mean Elias?Adrian nodded.Nothing.No probabilities. No possible futures. No branches. No outcomes.Just him.Arielle held Elias tighter. Is that dangerous?Adrian looked at her.I don't know. Those words frightened everyone.Adrian had spent his entire life seeing what could happen.Even when the possibilities were terrifying, ther
Arielle could not breathe. The ruined city stretched before her, disappearing piece by piece into the darkness.People vanished without screams.Buildings dissolved without falling.Even the sunlight seemed to be forgotten. And at the center of it all stood Elias. Her son.Twenty-five years old.Brown eyes. The same face she had kissed that morning. The same voice that had once called her Mum.But something about him was different. He looked tired. Not physically.Something deeper. He looked like someone who had carried an entire universe on his shoulders and had finally realized that the weight was crushing him.Arielle turned toward Hope. You said I have to choose which Elias deserves to live.Hope's eyes filled with tears.I said that because that is what it wants you to believe.Arielle stared at her.The darkness behind them moved. So that was the trap. Not the choice itself. The belief that there had to be only one answer.Arielle looked back at the city. Two Elias. One was the
The smile on Elias's face disappeared.Arielle felt it before she understood it.Something had changed. The darkness above them was no longer simply watching. It was searching. The enormous eye in the sky remained fixed on Elias, and the longer Arielle stared at it, the more she realized that it was not an eye at all.It was a doorway.A doorway into something that had never been meant to exist.Cassian stepped closer to Arielle.Keep Elias behind me.Arielle shook her head.No.Cassian looked at her.Arielle tightened her arms around their son.We stand together. He nodded. That was always their way.Whatever came next, they would face it side by side.Lyra moved to Arielle's left.Elara stood on her right.Kael and Adrian positioned themselves behind them while Noah stood slightly apart, staring at the sky.Hope took the Witness's hand. The human Creator stood beside them.Even the Shadow King had appeared at the edge of the garden. His dark eyes remained fixed on the enormous openi
Morning came quietly. For the first time in several days, the sky above the house was completely ordinary. No cracks. No strange lights. No voices coming from beyond the stars.Just pale sunlight slipping through the curtains and falling across the floor.Arielle sat beside Elias's small bed, watching him sleep. He looked so peaceful. So innocent.Nothing about the little boy suggested that he could one day become the most dangerous being the universe had ever known. And that was exactly what frightened her.She reached down and gently touched his cheek.Elias stirred. His little fingers wrapped around hers.Arielle smiled despite herself. Then she heard footsteps behind her.Cassian stood at the doorway. He did not speak immediately. He simply looked at Arielle and then at their son. Finally, he walked over and crouched beside her.You did not sleep again.Arielle shook her head.I kept thinking about what the woman showed me.The possible future.Cassian's expression became serious.
