Chapter 0002

“What the fuck?” I yelled.

“Where the fuck have you been?” My dad yelled as I regained my footing, while I was holding the open wound on my head.

“I was at work. Probably where you should be right now.” I said.

“They sent me home early. With pay.” He says.

“Let me guess, because you were too drunk to do the job properly.” I said. And he punched me in the face again, but this time it spun me around and I fell against the kitchen table.

“You’ve got one smartass mouth on you bitch. I’m your fucking father. You will respect me.” He yelled.

“Show me a man that’s worth respecting and then I will.” I yelled. And he charged at me again, but this time I was able to duck out of the way and he fell against the table and fell to the floor because he was too drunk to be able to hold his balance.

“You little bitch. Why the hell your mother died protecting you is something that I will never understand.” He yelled. And I picked up my school bag and I went to my bedroom. “Don’t you fucking walk away from me.” He screamed. And I heard him trying to get up, but a loud thud came after it as he fell back to the ground.

I could hear my dad ranting and raving and carrying on in the other room and I wasn’t in the mood for it tonight. It was becoming way too familiar, his attacks at night time. So I quickly put a small bandage over the cut that he just caused on my face and I climbed out the window and I started walking through the woods.

I could hear the patrols in the distance, but they rarely came near our house. This part of the territory wasn’t protected as much as the rest of the territory. Which doesn’t surprise me at all. I think the Alpha is hoping that we get attacked and then they will sound the alarms to let the rest of the pack know of the attack.

I really didn’t care right now. I knew that I was out in the open and in possible danger. But I really didn’t care.

I was lost in thought as I was walking through the woods, which I had done a million times, so I knew that I wouldn’t get lost when suddenly someone grabbed me from behind and threw me up against a tree.

I was frozen for a moment, thinking that I was in great danger and that no one was going to come to my rescue when I realized that it was the head warrior.

As soon as I recognised him, he took his hand off of my mouth.

“Leo, you asshole. What the hell are you trying to do to me?” I asked.

“I was trying to see if you’d fight back. I guess I was wrong.” He says.

“I’ve had a really bad day. I wasn’t concentrating.”

“I can see that. How’d you cut your head? School or home?” He asked.

“Both. School was at the back of the head.”

“So, this one was from your father?”

“It doesn’t matter.” I insisted as I kept on walking, and he kept up with me.

“I’ve been secretly training you for two years. You are well equipped to beat the crap out of anyone. I don’t know why you don’t.” He says.

“Because my father won’t remember it in the morning so the abuse won’t stop. And I can’t very well attack the Alpha’s son or his girlfriend. That will only get me executed.” I explained.

“Alright. They are actually very valid reasons. I didn’t know that it was still Owen and Olivia that were giving you such a hard time.” He says.

“Well, it is.”

“I’m sorry. I wish there was something that I could do.”

“Don’t worry about it. You’ll just end up getting demoted or thrown in the dungeon for helping me. Who the hell knows what the Alpha will do to you if he finds out.”

“Why are you out here now?”

“Because I’m waiting for my father to pass out. Going by how drunk he was, I give it another half an hour or so.” I explained.

“It’s pretty sad that you can tell when your father is going to pass out by how drunk he is.”

“I know. But you get to know these things after a while.”

“You know, I could give Owen a little touch up at training tomorrow if you like. I could use him as my puppet. My sparring partner.” Leo says.

“I appreciate the offer. But don’t do anything for me that will get you into trouble. It’s not worth it.” I say.

“It will be worth it. I hate that little punk.” Leo says.

“Yeah. You’re not the only one.” I say.

Leo was basically the only friend that I had in the pack. But no one knew that we were friends. And if we were around people, he couldn’t let anyone know that we were friends. I understood why and he knew that as well. He knew that I didn’t harbor any bad feelings towards him about it.

He couldn’t have his reputation tarnished like that. Especially because he is the head warrior and his main priority is protecting the pack. He didn’t want rumors to start. Especially rumors that might consist of us two having a romantic relationship, which I know is the first place they will go. So we kept it a secret and I was happy to do that.

We walked around and talked for a while when we started heading back to my house. Leo was worried about me going back inside if dad was still in a drunken rage, so he checked out the house and walked all the way around it before he cleared it.

“Your dad is passed out on his bed. I guess you were right. Half an hour.” Leo says.

“Told ya. I’ll see you tomorrow.” I say. And I climbed back in through my window. I didn’t want to sneak through the house and avoid all the creaks. So Leo left and I went to have a shower and wash my hair. I got dressed into my pajamas and then I went back to my room and I started on my homework.

I was up until 2am in the morning doing my homework and researching for my homework because it wasn’t the easiest crap in the world to do. AP classes really challenged us and we needed to stay on top of our classes. If we fell behind at all, then we were screwed.

I was woken up in the middle of the night by someone pounding on the front door of our house. So I got up and I went to open it and there were three warriors standing there.

“What’s going on?” I asked.

“Step aside.” One of them ordered, pushing me to the side while they came into the house and started searching all of the rooms.

They went into my father’s bedroom and I could hear him drunkenly trying to talk to them as they dragged him out of bed.

“You have no right to come into my house.” My dad slurred out. And the warriors were basically dragging my dad down the hallway because he couldn’t walk on his own.

“What is this about?” I asked again.

“It’s not your concern.” A warrior says.

“You’re taking my father away. I think it does concern me.” I demanded. But they ignored me anyway and they dragged my father through the living room and he saw me standing there with confusion on my face.

“What the hell have you done now girlie?” He asked, looking at me. And that just confused me even more. How could him being arrested be my fault? But then again, in his eyes, everything was my fault.

The guards took my father out of the house and put him in the back of a car without giving me any explanations at all. I could just stand there and watch them do it.
