Moira's POV

We arrived home after an exhausting journey. Although Jude and I had discussed the land across from Grandma's house, which was no longer owned by the Sanders family, we were struck by silence shortly before arriving at the mansion.

Jude didn't say another word. Neither did I, choosing to occupy myself with daydreaming while looking at the street through the window.

Grandma was still awake. She seemed to make sure I had really gotten out of Jude's car, then she went back up the stairs to Mirielle's room. I just watched for a moment, then went into my room and found Jude had cleaned himself up, look fresh and busy with a book in his hands.

It was unusual for him to read books. However, I didn't care about his habits. He was still a stranger now. I just did my routine before resting—especially cleaning myself up. I felt tired and immediately lay down with my back to Jude.

I turned off the night light, and not long after, as if he had deliberately read the book to wait for me
