Nicholae Lykon’s POV
“What is it Orion?”
I ask. He doesn’t respond and whines low instead. He comes through a clearing and then I begin to smell something familiar. A scent I haven’t encountered in centuries but would never forget. A scent that has tortured me for centuries.
The smell of Moonflower and Lavender. But something is different there’s a hint of jasmine too, something that was not part of her scent before but more importantly is the scent of blood that coming from her. No, it can’t be. It isn’t possible. We had lost all hope. And then I see her.
A small female form with pale hair is lying on the forest floor. She doesn’t seem bigger than a teenager . Her back is turned so I can’t see her face but the moonlight streams through the forest canopy making it look like she is glowing. Her pale skin iridescent under the moon. She’s glorious, she’s gorgeous, she’s not fucking moving.
Orion notices that and growls low, his panic taking over. He goes to her and sniffs her, trying to identify the reason she is not moving and the source of the bleeding them starts to whine. I take over and shift back to my human form and kneel next to her.
I turn her so she is lying on her back so I can see her face and I. See. Red.
My body trembles with rage as I scan her broken body. Her face is swollen, her eyes bruised shut with cuts lining her body.
My vision blurs as Orion surges forward, trying to take control. It is with sheer force of will that I am able to stop him. He can’t take care of her in this state.
I lift her head up and place it in my lap, running my hands through her hair to find it caked in blood.
“Who did this? I growl out. My wolf taking control momentarily. I must have been projecting dominance because she whimpers in agitation.
“Shhhh Mea Luna Amoris, you’re safe now. It will be fine.” I soothe her while running my hands through her hair.
I scan her for more injuries by running my hands down her body then I notice her ribs are broken and my vision blurs in rage.
“ I’ll kill whoever did this. Death will be a mercy.” I grit out.
She stirs and flickers her swollen right eye open. My heart lurches when I see that the other eye is swollen shut. Her eyes are the same midnight blue shade from centuries ago.
“It is you.” I whisper and brush a strand of hair away from her forehead.
She moves her lips, a rasping sound coming from her mouth while trembling in my arms.
“It h-hurts. Make it s-stop. H-help me, p-please.”
Fresh fury courses through my veins at that single word but I calm down so I don’t scare her more.
“You’re safe with me. No one would ever harm you again.” I whisper.
I graze my fingers across her delicate jaw.
“Who are you?” She asks.
“Mate.” Orion growls out the word that has been resonating in my soul since I laid eyes on her. “Mine.” And I was never letting her go.
She looks up at me, eyes blurry with pain and confusion and passes out.
During Nicholae’s Raid……….. “She’s gone.” Raven blurts. I slowly turn, still with the bastard’s throat in my grip. “What did you say?” I whisper. My voice is unusually calm. The only indication of my rage is the hand squeezing so tightly on Michael's throat that he has lost consciousness. I drop the pathetic pile of useless meat on the ground. He doesn't get to die yet. My attention centers back on the scout who came to give me the news. “You were saying?” I arch an eyebrow upwards. Raven shifts her weight from one foot to the other, stammering and stumbling over his words. “T-the Luna, My King. S-she's missing. My expression is devoid of any expression, my voice still in that dangerously low whisper that causes my soliders to stop and stare. They know this is the calm before the storm. Orion is snarling within me, fighting to get out, my control is fraying but I hold on to it through sheer force of will. “Explain.” The word comes out as a forced growl. “When someone we
One week before Serena's Capture……Nicholae's POV As an Alpha, I pride myself on being in control at all times. It's simply in my nature. But then, everything concerning my Mea Lunaria has never involved control. All those centuries ago, she was a wild thing, testing my patience with defiant acts that would have gotten anyone else killed on the spot. This version of her however, is a mystery to me but she doesn't make me act any less crazy. Moreso, it feels like my feelings for her have grown, have become much more intense and volatile than what I ever felt. Could it be that I want to protect her more because she is an Omega? Or because of the terrible things she suffered? When I first brought her to the pack, I was mad with anger and anxious with worry. She was so frail, her body broken and bruised all over. I am seated on a tree trunk at the training grounds. My warriors give me a wide berth for fear that I would beat then up as I have been doing these past few weeks. Feelin
Daphne's POV "Serena!" He roars. I am shocked. This is the first time he has called me by my name. This can't be real. I put my head back down. Did I want to be rescued so much that I imagined him? Am I imagining things? He lets out a strangled sound deep in his throat that causes me to lift my head up again. He is chest is rising and falling rapidly. “Where are you?!” He roars. His eyes dart around the room until they land on me. He lets out another strangled, tortured sound, taking in the bruises on my body and my twisted ankle. I can't tell whether he is the one in control or Orion. The torch he is holding in his hands lights up the room, putting his face in harsh lines as the shadows dance across them. “What have they done?” He whispers. Something untamed passes through his eyes. His face is set in a harsh line With the torch still in hand, he picks me up with one hand and cradles me too his chest, holding me tightly like I could disappear at any moment. In that
Serena's POV “Let me out!” I bang on the solid metal door for what seems like the hundredeth time already but there is no response. I lean against the door, sinking down slowly to the ground, and hold my head in both hands. It's either they can't hear me or they're just choosing to ignore me. I suspect the latter since vampires have excellent hearing equal to that of vampires. The room is dark, like a cellar or a basement with rough, uncut walls. I am not sure, but I think we are at the base of the mountain. It seemed like we were underground when they brought me here, blindfolded. Water drips steadily from the roof. There's a straw bed placed in the corner of the room like I'm lifestock. My body aches for lying so close to the ground and the room is unbearably cold though it's nothing I'm not used to. I would say my short moment in comfort has made me compliant. My body is quick to forget the difficulties it has been through. Although, I suppose I should be grateful fo
Nicholae's POV “Progress report.” The scout I sent stands at attention at the doorway.“At ease solider.” I wave him in hurriedly.“What do you have to report?” I am bent over the map of the Black Moon Pack territory spread out on the table with four of my captains in the hotel room of a nearby town a few miles from the pack.“As we suspected, they are trafficking in shifters. A large number of young female shifters came in last night. I suspect some of them were brought in from other countries.” At his words the entire room goes silent. He continues, “the captives are sold to mostly the fae and vampires. Most of those who are captured seem to have special abilities.” That would explain why the border seemed so unguarded when we came the last time. Amongst shifters, the greatest gift that one could have is freedom. Although due to the nature of various castes, there are always problems of equality but it is considered almost taboo to deprive a shifter if their freedom. There's some
Serena's POV“What do you mean by that?” I question. More importantly, why do I care? “Ever since I met Alpha Nicholae, he has always been the unchanging, unbreakable, unmovable King. The Alpha of Alphas.” There is a hint of almost adoration in his voice. “He took this place from a desolate wasteland home to rogues and vampires and turned it into a Kingdom. No, an empire.”“He took me in and many others and saved us from ourselves, he brought us from the brink of destruction“The only thing time that he ever seems vulnerable or less than himself is when he talks about this mate. The stories he tells of her is that of a proud, warrior shifter who is worthy to be called queen.” He pins me down with a look of disgust. “That is not you.” I feel my heart sink into my stomach. My mouth feels dry. I want to get to know this great leader that Logan is talking about but that is impossible because he is not my mate. I gasp. In the first place, why do I want to get to know him better. That
Serena's POV"Where do you think you are going?" A deep baritone drawls out from the shadows.A cold sweat breaks out all over me. Have I been discovered? I barely took one step towards my freedom and now, this could be the end of it.I freeze on the spot, trying to calm my rapidly beating heart. I can't give off an inclination that I am nervous. Any half decent shifter would be able to smell it on me but it's no use, my heart thumps in tune with each crunch of feet on gravel. “I said, where do you think you are going?” The voice questions once more. Panic courses through my entire being. No. I can't mess this up. Digging my nails into my palms, I use the pain to center my thoughts.I just need to think through this logically. No one other than Raven has actually seen me up close so all I need to do is find a way to escape his suspicion. “Um what? Who’s there?” I summon courage to question shakily.“Did I stutter? Answer the question.” Although the voice sounds languid, the unmis
Serena 's POVIt was time to escape. For the past few days I have been biding my time, finding out all the information I needed to make my escape. Although it isn't enough, I'll just have to make due.Besides, today is the perfect day to do so. I move to the walk-in closet directly opposite my bed and fish out a leather jacket, some tshirts and a fur coat. I put the leather jacket on, knowing that it would be cold outside, especially where I'm going. The jacket practically swallows my frame but I don't mind it, deeply breathing in the scent surrounding me. Since I woke up, I have been wearing the clothes that I found in the closet which Raven told me were his. I thought as much since they looked like clothes a giant would wear. His scent of pinewood with undertones of coffee comforted me for some strange reason. It was probably why I didn't tell Raven to bring any clothes for me other than leggings. What am I doing burying my face into his clothes like a love sick puppy? I don't h
Serena's POV "What did you just say about escaping?" Raven asks.My heart leaps in my throat as sweat breaks out on my brow. "Um, nothing. I was just saying that this place is the perfect escape." I reply, my voice shaky with nervousness."Oh, yes it really is. But be careful okay, like I said don't go anywhere alone for now, it's very dangerous to do so." A sigh of relief passes my lips. I almost thought I had been caught. "I- I won't promise. It's not like I have anywhere to go." I say, trying to assure her further. She stares deep into my eyes like she's searching from something. She breaks her gaze, seeming to be satisfied what she see there. "Alright, I'll leave you to yourself. Although some of your wounds are closed, you still have some internal bleeding. Please make sure you rest. The healer will come see you tomorrow." She inclines her head in a small bow, turns on her heel and strides out the door. I don't leave the balcony but gaze instead at the crescent moon in the
