LOGINCalian POV “Forgive me for checking Alpha, but…you aren’t going to like what you see.” His words kill that internal hope within me. That I had been right about Belgaire falsifying the results.I reach for the envelope against that ominous sensation building inside of me warning me not to take them out of his hand. To ignore it, because this will change everything…life will never be the same after this. With a deep core centring breath in I open the envelope, pulling the documents out to inspect myself. Firstly, I check the results between Athan and Ame, surprised to find written in bold print is the word Match. I hold my breath, swallowing down the hard lump that is forming in the back of my throat as I turn the page over for the second set of results. The results between Athan and Dessa… I skim read the initial information looking for the words Match…nausea gripping me as the results scream out No Match… I think at first that I have misread it, that my eyes are tied. I even sla
Calian POV I know the results will come back with an indisputable match between Dessa and Athan, I mean how can it not, they are identical…but that isn’t stopping me from looking at my mate a little clearer this morning. Have I been wearing rose tinted spectacles for some time, wholly trusting the mate bond by the moon goddess…because something seems off about Dessa this morning. She doesn’t look as well put together as normal; she looks almost dishevelled as she clutches her coffee and refuses to touch any of the breakfast food. “Dad, can you help me with some of my homework today?” Athan clears his throat, stealing my focus on to him. “I have quite a full day…but yes, always.” I U-turn as he sighs out in disappointment. He has been through a lot recently and although he handles it well, I forget just how young he still is. “I thought you wanted help last night?” Dessa grunts out, now slowly sipping on a glass of ice water. “I did.” He looks to his mother, then to me…slowly s
Belgaire POV She’s been back less than twenty-four hours and she is already breaking the conditions I set out for her, that I could contact her at any time of the day. Yet she frustratingly has her block up. I know she isn’t asleep; I can feel her active through the pack bond. “Here’s the report from last night Alpha, and this morning. I’ve proposed in it that we have light duties today…some of the fighters are looking tired.” Logan places the report on the usual spot upon my desk. “Did training go ahead?” I ask out, picking up the report and flicking through it. “No, I cancelled it to reserve energy.” “Fine but I want it back on tomorrow, they need to be at their fittest.” “Yes Alpha.” The morning report was late this morning, Logan having taken on the night shift by the gate himself. I’ll replace him tonight; I’ll take the lead myself…he is also starting to look tired. “Can you check on Ame; she’s got her block up. When you see her at her house can you remind her that I onl
Ame POV I take a step inside my pack house at the Savage Fangs, memories coming forward from the last time I was in this building. The anticipation of packing a small bag last minute knowing I was to step back on to the enemy soil meaning I had left this place a little messy in my rush to join Belgaire at his car. How I had planned to destroy Calian, take everything away from him…yet somehow he managed to once again remain unscathed. Nothing seems to touch him, to hurt him….I had failed. I’ve now lost the advantage of keeping my identity hidden from him. He knows who I am, and I will never be able to touch foot back on his soil. Not even to complete Athan’s healing. “Better he is to die, he is the son of our enemy.” My wolf growls out through my head. She is well and truly under control again, Belgaire only letting me return to my house after ensuring I had a nourishing meal. “No, you don’t mean that. He may be their son, but he is still an innocent.” I roll my eyes back at he
Dessa POV He’s ignoring me…his block has been up all day. Why is he ignoring me…. Ame has gone; the energy of this place should be back to how it was before she returned…so why do I feel as if I am still trying too hard. Why do I feel as if I am losing him all over again. This isn’t five years ago…I’ve secured my position by his side. The luna ceremony was meant to be my moment to shine, to prove to my doubters once and for all that I am the destined luna of this back. That I am the one meant to be by his side. She couldn’t help herself could she, she had to ruin it for me. It was perfection though to find out that she was the one that poisoned him, ironically using the same wolf teddy as I did the night she set fire to the alpha house. Still to this day I don’t know how she survived that level of concentrated wolfsbane. It should have killed her instantly. She thinks it was him that poisoned the wolf teddy, she has no idea who really is to blame. She may not have died but it
Calian POV “Alpha…this is a surprise.” Sheldon remains on guard, not making any attempt to officially greet me. I place my hand out, forcing him to shake it…not doing so would be classed as disrespect to his alpha. He may not work for me anymore, but he still lives on my lands, he is still a member of this pack. “Sheldon, how have you been.” Once his hand greets mine, I tighten the hold, shaking it firmly. “Well thank you. You remember my son Sawyer.” He gestures to the male next to me. So, this was his son, he must be around eighteen or nineteen now. “Of course, you’ve certainly shot up.” I offer my hand out to Sawyer, who takes it without any hesitation, unlike his father. “It’s been a while, Alpha.” Sawyer offers out, nodding when I break the handshake. “Why haven’t I seen you at events recently?” I can understand why Sheldon might be reluctant but for his son to miss out on pack life at this age seems like a shame. He isn’t mixing with the younger pack members…and judging
Ame POV I settle into my new accommodation inside the large pack house. This was always where the single wolves were housed, until they paired off and were moved to individual pack houses…where they could start a family home.I’m only just realising that not once did I step inside this building.
Ame POVJust hearing my name on his tongue sends shockwaves of hatred throughout my body, the memory of my wolf teddy flashing through my mind. The moment I realised he had doused it in wolfsbane to kill me…the excruciating burn spreading on my chest as the poison takes me...The hairs on the back
Ame POV I straighten my back, making myself look taller before I look him in the eyes. I will not look weak, the old me is gone…the me he married…this is the new me. “Alpha.” I turn, placing my hand out to greet him formally, like he was a stranger to me. I remained composed, polite as he final
Ame POV I can see it now, see Calian in him. See both of them in him. Same dark hair, same dark brown eyes….he looks just like his parents. I can’t believe I didn’t notice it before. It’s like a younger version of Calian, the boy I once knew, looking back at me. So, this was their son, the fu
