“How do we make it official in Shadowglade?” I say, frowning in confusion at Karl. “We have handfastings in Shadowglade.”

“Yes, but that’s not the kind of ceremony King Axel and my cousin were going to have,” Karl points out. “I want to make sure your vampire nobles also respect your marriage.”

The vampire nobles are bastards. I’m surprised Karl knows this. Then again, maybe I shouldn’t be surprised. If I’ve learned anything while I’ve been in Warfang, it’s that Karl knows everything.

I look at Ainslee. Would the vampire nobles spit on our marriage because it was only a simple handfasting?

“Anyone have a glass?” I ask cautiously. “And… maybe a doctor who can…”

Ainslee is the only wolf shifter who doesn’t wrinkle her nose.

“So, we need to have some sort of surgical procedure to mate you properly?” Karl hazards.
