-CASSIAN LANCASTER-
"YOU LOOK LIKE you are being sent to a death sentence." Cassian Lancaster, the famous warrior alpha, snorted. "Shut up, Ryan." He said, adjusting his sleeves. "I am your Beta and best friend, Cassian," The blonde man called Ryan said with a lopsided smile. "I have seen you through many things, I have seen the look on your face before every war we have fought together... and I must say, your face today is worse than any of those days." "Maybe because I am literally being forced to go attend some stupid ceremony," Cassian snarled. "You are not being forced," Ryan replied. "But it would be wise to accept the peace that the pack of Blackspire is offering." "We are not scared of them," Cassian said. "We are good with or without the peace treaty." "Yes, we are," Ryan said, coming up behind Cassian with a jacket. "But we will be better with peace with them. Besides, you might find a wife there. That won't be a bad thing, we need a Luna here." "My mother is there to fill up that role," Cassian said. "And she is doing a good job there, but it's not the same," Ryan said. "You complain too much," Cassian muttered as he shrugged the jacket on. "I want the best for this pack and our legacy," Ryan said. "I am going to dress up. See you at the car in 10 minutes." Cassian sighed. He was the great alpha that brought war to the werewolf republic council. He had single-handedly freed the pack of his great-grandfather from oppression, and he was determined to make sure other packs did not suffer as his pack had. The Republic of Werewolves was like a board of alphas that came together and decided to take control of packs all over the world. Almost all werewolf packs were under the Republic Fighting against them was not an easy task. Cassian had been to countless wars, and he had the scars to show for it. He gently touched the scar that ran from the top of his left eyebrow to a few inches beneath his eyes. He had been prepared to continue his revolution to the packs, but Ryan had come in with news that the Blackspire pack was inviting him to the new coronation of their new alpha, as well as his mating ceremony. Cassian had immediately rejected it after all, the Blackspire pack was a large pack, and a part of the Republic. So Cassian had been surprised when they extended a hand for peace. Ryan had given him many reasons why he should agree, one of them being that they might find his mate this time. Cassian had been too immersed in his life goals that he had not given much time to finding his mate. Cassian took a step back to look at his reflection in the full-body mirror. He snorted to himself. He was not bad looking, not in the slightest. Standing at 6feet4 and ripped with muscles. His long hair was packed in a low ponytail, and he was clean-shaven except for the constant 5 o'clock stubble that was on his chin and lower face, making him look more dangerous. "Are you ready to go?" Ryan asked through the mindlink. Cassian grunted and walked out to meet the entourage of cars that would be escorting him to the Blackspire pack. *** THEY GOT TO the place and a few hours later. Cassian was in a worse mood than earlier. His back hurt, and his wolf was restless. "Are you alright?" Ryan leaned over and whispered. "I could do the talking for you, if you don't mind." "I'm fine," Cassian said, wanting to rip out the button from his collar. "And shouldn't you be worried about finding your mate?" Ryan laughed. "The moon goddess wouldn't do that to me. I love being a freeman, and I am not bugged down with as many responsibilities as you. I don't need to have a mate." Cassian chuckled dryly. Ryan detested the idea of staying loyal to one woman because she was his "mate." He had numerous girlfriends across the different packs they were affiliated with. The thought that he would have to break up with them because of one woman scared him. "The moon goddess could play games on you," Cassian said. "Maybe your mate has been here all along." Ryan shook his head, but he was silent. "If she is, I would reject her." "You're not that mean," Cassian laughed. Apart from Ryan's knack for flirting and womanizing, he was a very good Beta and friend to Cassian. The cars slowed to a crawl as they approached a man standing a few feet away. Cassian and Ryan stepped out of the car. "Welcome to the Blackspire pack," the man said with a smile. "I am Beta Sylvester, and it is my honour to meet you." Cassian's wolf was immediately on guard with this man. There was something unusual about him, stirring a deep feeling of hate in Cassian. "Alpha Robert and his son are in the pack hall awaiting your arrival." Beta Sylvester said. "Stay calm, Cassian," Ryan mindlinked, already sensing that Cassian was boiling underneath his silence. "We brought gifts for the new Alpha and his Luna," Ryan said to Sylvester. "Thank you," Sylvester said, grinning widely to reveal a gold tooth. "The Luna is my daughter, so I am pleased." "I hope your alphas come with a good deal for alliance," Cassian growled. "Because if I am not satisfied, Blackspire will bear the consequences." An ugly look washed over Sylvester's face, but he quickly replaced it with a mask of smiles. "Don't worry, Alpha Cassian. This deal comes with so many good things. One of which, I'm sure you will be very pleased with." His eyes had an evil glint as he smiled and walked away. Cassian saw the glint in the Beta's eyes, but he did not think much of it because a floral vanilla scent suddenly filled his nose, enveloping him and his senses. His wolf, who had been on edge all the while suddenly calmed down. Cassian growled and looked around abruptly. "Alpha Cassian, are you not coming with us?" Beta Sylvester asked. Cassian took in a deep breath to memorize the scent before he nodded. "I'm coming." He muttered as he made a mental note to leave the meeting as soon as possible and find where that scent was coming from.LIORAI WAS DISCHARGED after a few days. Cassian never came to visit me anymore, but when I slept, I could feel his presence. I was not sure if it was real or if my mind was playing tricks on me because whenever I woke up, I always saw that I was alone. My child was medically approved to be healthy even though he was born prematurely. On the morning I was to be discharged, Sienna burst into my room with a bunch of balloons. "Congratulations, Liora!" She grinned. "The doctors said you can come home now."It hurt me that when she said "home," my mind went to the Blackspire pack, and not Cassian's pack. I plastered a smile on my face as I sat up."I expected a little more enthusiasm," Sienna said as she tied the balloon to my bedstand. "Go and wash up, I'll watch baby Jade."I nodded and stood up. Jade carried Jade carefully from his cot and cradled him, making cooing sounds which he seemed to enjoy because his baby laughs filled the air as I went into the bathroom. I took my bath quick
LIORAWHEN I WOKE up, my first instinct was to reach out for my baby. I sat up abruptly, and my head spun."Relax," a voice said. I turned around sharply and saw Sienna with my baby. She was cradling him gently."The doctors said you will remain at the hospital for a few days to make sure everything is fine.""Should something be wrong?" I asked."Don't get defensive on me," she said. "The baby was born premature." She snorted. "They are humans. They do not understand our biology."I scoffed."Here, carry him," she said, handing Jade to me. "He is beautiful. ""Thank you," I smiled as soon as I was carrying him. He was sleeping peacefully."They said you had already named him," Sienna said, crossing her arms."Jade," I nodded. "It was the first name that came to my mind, and it's my birthstone.""Understandable," Sienna muttered. "But you should have told Cassian that you had a name for the child already.""Why?" I snapped. "He is not the father. I don't have to tell him anything.""
CASSIANCARRYING THE STILL body of the child had shifted something in Cassian. This was his first encounter with a newborn baby. His life had been filled with blood, war and death, so this was a new experience for him.As soon as Sienna walked out of the house to bring the medics here and he carried the baby awkwardly in his arms, he could feel the despair rising in Liora as she lay on the makeshift bed, exhausted and almost unconscious. Cassian knew that he had to do something. He could feel the life slipping from the baby, so he started trying to resuscitate the baby.He tried all the emergency medical methods he knew, but the baby kept on getting paler by the second, so in a last-ditch effort, he bit on his thumb, extracting blood which he placed in the baby's mouth and forced it down. The blood of an alpha, especially a very powerful one, was often rumored to have magical powers. Cassian did not believe much in magic or even the divinity of the mood goddess, but he just did it any
LIORAIT STARTED AS a small stomach ache, but before I knew what was happening, labour contractions shook me to my core. I was alone in the house, and none of my neighbours were available.I struggled to the door, hoping that I would make it to the main street and meet anybody, but the contractions in my lower belly made me groan and sit back down. I lay down on the floor, waiting for the contractions to pass. The pain was like nothing I had ever felt. My breath quickened, and I realized that I was going into labour right now."Help!" I wheezed weakly and forlornly. No one was going to hear me and come to my aid. I was going to bleed out to death on the floor. "My baby..." I whispered, as a trickle of blood ran down my inner thigh.I could not tell if I was hallucinating, but my door burst open, and Alpha Cassian was staring down at me. I could not tell the look on his face, but he disappeared again."Help..." I called weakly.Suddenly, I was being hoisted up by strong arms. My legs w
-LIORA-MY HEART WAS broken, and my spirit was shattered. I had run out of energy to cry. My eyes were dry and itchy all the time, and I constantly felt pressure in my chest.I felt stupid and used. After saving myself all these years for my fated mate and defending myself from my uncle, I gave myself to Robert Junior, who ended up using me. The thought of it made me teary again. I have been in this new pack for almost a month, and I have mostly kept to myself. I was grateful that I was left alone. No one bullied or tried to talk to me.None of the men who had brought me here had come to see me. Only a woman who introduced herself as Sienna spoke to me. She gave me gentle orders on my duties for the day, and she was the one who had shown me where to sleep and some clothes. My stomach felt queasy as I wiped down the table. I was almost done for the day. I placed a hand on my belly and squeezed it gently. I had a dreading suspicion of what the nausea and morning sickness were. I was
-CASSIAN-"EXCUSE ME, I will go talk with him," Ryan said urgently as everyone watched Cassian stalk out of the room. He hurried out of the room. "Wait up," he called. When he caught up with Cassian, he asked, "What was that all about?""I said what I felt," Cassian said. "And I don't want the gift, I rejected it. Easy as that. In fact, I was wrong about this pack," He looked around. "We are going to invade and take over. Gather the men, we're going home.""Cassian," Ryan said with a frown. "You know I am all with you, whatever your decision. I will fight beside you no matter the war, but I think this pack has gone out of their way to make you feel welcome for peace. You should give them the benefit of the doubt. Accept the gift, take her back to the pack, fuck her when you wish until you find your mate -"Cassian tuned out after that. His mate...He knew how mates were found. They were usually drawn to each other by an irresistible scent, just like the floral vanilla from the girl.C
