Derek’s POV

I had been away from her for too long, but I had needed to block her out, because if I didn’t I would have torn all wolves that we came across to shreds like I had before and I promised myself I wouldn’t do that, we were not going back to that dark place again. The lead the wolf gave to us before we killed him was false, and now he was dead. We were at a loss again. There was something that was nagging me in the back of my head, but we were too exhausted to think straight. The only thing I wanted to do was have Sophia in my arms.

She was asleep in the bed, but she looked tired, like she had been having trouble sleeping. I felt guilty and I would take any anger that she had towards me. But right now, I needed her. The bed dipped as I laid next to her, breathing in her scent. I needed her body, every inch of her. I pulled her into my arms.
