Adonis’s POV

Swish!

The sound of a blade as it sliced the air, reverberated. I dodged but not quick enough as the tip of the blade nicked my ear.

The morning air was crisp, carrying the scent of damp earth and sweat as I rolled my shoulders, loosening the tension in my muscles. Fang stood across from me, sword in hand, a smirk tugging at the corner of his mouth. Fang was one of the few men that could withstand sword training with me - a fact that he threw in my face every chance he got. That was why he was my favourite training partner.

He didn't wait. He lunged at me again, his blade cutting through us like lightning. I sidestepped bringing my sword up just in time to block the strike. The sheer force of it vibrated up my arm.

Fang was strong. I would give him that.

But I was stronger and faster.

I twisted my wrist, slipping his blade to the side and countering with a swift slash toward his ribs. Fang reacted instantly, parrying and forcing me to step back.

He grinned. “Slower than

Vee’s POVI never expected to stare back at these green pairs of eyes again. I never even imagined myself being back here, not after everything I had been through and the obvious fact that everyone in his cult was either trying to kill me or hoping for a chance to kill me.Adonis’s usually hard expression was somewhere between shock, relief and more shock.“So this is the half breed,” a beautiful dark man, that I had never seen before, examined me with a hint of amusement in his piercing brown eyes.I narrowed my eyes on him. “What is that supposed to mean?”“That your kind is not welcomed here,” he turned to Adonis, placing a hand on his shoulder, “I hope you know what you are doing.” Then he walked away.“I guess they ran out of rope to hang yourself with,” Fang spat, following behind the black man. I rolled my eyes eternally. When I returned my gaze to Adonis, his eyes were cold and devoid of all emotions. “Adonis I….”He began walking away, pausing briefly to say, “follow me.”

Adonis’s POVHer deep blue eyes stared at me with such anger and confusion.I had spent most of last night thinking of a way to bring her back and to make her willing consent to becoming my mate, only for her to walk through doors and present me with an opportunity to get exactly what I want. She was desperate and that worked to my advantage. She just has to agree to this final condition and the first phase of my plan would be complete. She will accept my every demand, if truly she was trying to save her sister, then she will accept. “What is it going to be Vee?”As much as Nate loathed how riled up I was making her, he could not complain. He wanted her to stay. Forever. He could see she was a flight risk. And knowing humans, she would probably take my money, free her sister and then disappear, that is assuming the whole sister story was true. But I will not let her disappear. “Fine.”When she reached for the check this time, I did not stop her. “One of my men would take you home a

Vee’s POVIf Adonis thought I would be leaving my sister to live with him, he had another thing coming.I had to find a way to ditch Jumbo, so I and Vera could run away. I also had to find a way to keep Vera’s face hidden from Jumbo. Who knows what Adonis would do if he finds out that I had an identical twin sister. The SUV pulled to a stop in front of club 9. “Be quick,” he growled curtly. Those were the first and only words he had said to me since I entered the car. He had thrown occasional distasteful stares my way, throughout the drive. Not that I cared, but I had almost asked him why they hated me so much, even without knowing me. Maybe their cult wasn’t very accommodating of outsiders. But none of that matters, I had no plans of becoming a member of their cult. We had made a quick stop earlier at the bank where I had cashed the check. So I grabbed the duffel bag, filled the cash and got out of the car.I hurried into the building. This time, the buff bouncer did not bother to

Adonis’s POVSelene’s being here was a complication. The last thing I needed was more complications. Already I had to deal with the big complication that was Vee and the fact that I had just made a big speech about how every half breed was an enemy and would be killed with no exceptions, then I went ahead to propose marriage to a half breed. Now I also had to deal with the Vico problem before this all spirals out of control any more than it already has. If this Vico problem is not nipped now, people would begin to see me as weak and that would lead to even more attacks. With all this happening all at once I can’t also deal with Selene hovering over me.What was she doing here?Selene was not supposed to be here till next week. It would have given me more time to prepare. “Is that anyway to greet your fiancée?” she asked, feigning annoyance.“I was just surprised to see you, that's all,” I said and started picking out clothes to wear. Selene’s slender arms snaked around my wais

Adonis’s POV“What happened in there? You took your sweet time,” Fang asked as he sped through the dilapidated streets of the Hollow. I shrugged. “I think Jojo is a wizard or he knows some kind of magic,” I said, fiddling with the piece of paper. Fang glanced at me through the rear mirror. “Witches in the underworld is not uncommon”, when I did not respond he continued, “Did you find what you were looking for?” I nodded. “A name and an address. You and Ezra will check it out tomorrow.” I glanced at my wristwatch, it was almost midnight and I was tired. If this lead works, I would be one step closer to finding Vico and putting an end to all this. “You wouldn’t be joining us?” Ezra finally spoke. I shook my head. “I’m sure Fang can handle a couple of half breeds. Take two more men with you, just in case.” I would have gone with them, but Vee would be coming back tomorrow and I still haven’t spoken to Selene. I don't want the two women meeting each other in my absence, at least no

  • The Lycan King's Game    19 - Your bride is here

Adonis’s POV I froze waiting for the pain to ripple through me. If the silver bullet pierced my heart then it would be the very end for me. I wasn’t scared of death, I just hated that I died without an heir and worst of all, that I died in the hands of a half breed and not on the battle field like the warrior I was. Fang dashed towards me but his bloodshot eyes weren’t fixed on me, but rather behind me, at my shooter maybe. And then I turned around. A familiar brown wolf lay in the pool of his own blood writhing in pain. My mind went blank. “Ezra,” I muttered as the wolf morphed back into its human form. In the distance, a sound of an approaching vehicle roared, mixing with the screams of the man that shot Ezra. I made to lift Ezra from the ground, but Fang’s bloodied hand beat me to it as he lifted Ezra, placing him unto his shoulder. Ezra had been shot in the chest. He took the bullet for me. Now he might die. Another SUV pulled to a stop beside the truck and Kene and one

Adonis POV “If I didn’t know any better, I would think you weren’t happy to see me,” she pouted her lower lip, making her look like a baby doll. She wielded her feminine power as fiercely as she wielded her beauty. If it were any other man, they would be crawling at her feet and begging for crumbs of her attention. But not me, how beautiful she was made no difference to me, I wanted to rip her head off of her body. Since Vico wanted her too, I would send him her head and whatever remained of her body. But I needed her. I needed her to love me and to desperately want to save me, that is the only way to activate her blood.I managed a small smile. “I thought you loathed the idea of marrying me.”She placed the glass down, and strolled, all so sensually, towards me. “I had time to think. And we need each other,” she brushed her slender finger on my cheeks and I recoiled at how familiar her touch was. It should be familiar. We had a one night stand and she robbed me of the only thing k

  • The Lycan King's Game    21 – To Ashes

Nena’s POV I whipped around to give Fang one last glance. His handsome face was twisted in a frown. I did not expect him to understand, he lived his entire life devoid of human attachment. So he could not possibly understand what it meant to lose a mate. Even though Ezra was not my true mate, our bond was stronger that most true mates bond. Ezra loved me and he made sure to remind me of that every day. And by the goddess, did I love him more than life. And that is why I will not think twice to 'throw' my life away if it meant fighting against the very people that took my Ezra from me. The same set of people that had attacked years ago and took the only family I had left, after both my parents died in an accident, my Nana. I will destroy every single half breed and crush their precious Whitlock group, even if it was the last thing I do. I turned to work away, but Fang grabbed my hand, the same way he had held me three years ago. But this was a different situation. This time

Nena’s POVThe cave was cold, despite the flames that danced in the iron bowls lining the walls. The firelight flickered across the Helga’s face—her eyes were closed, her lips murmuring a chant older than memory, the kind that made the air feel too heavy to breathe.I knelt before her, naked, bare feet pressed against the rough stone, knees bruised from the hard ground. My fingers trembled in my lap, though I tried to still them. The copper tang of dried blood lingered in my mouth from the offering. My offering. This was a choice I made, then why was I feeling so scared.Tonight, I would either become who I was meant to be or die trying. Whichever way it pans out, I will accept it as the will of the goddess. The chant stop. I glanced up to find Helga staring down at me, worried lines framing her face. “It’s not to late to change your mind yet, Nena.”As tempting as that sounded, I had to do this. It was the only way I would be strong enough to defeat my enemies. “I want this.”

  • The Lycan King's Game    35

Nena’s POV The strange woman still hadn’t woken up. After I brought her home yesterday, I tried to reach Helga. I had even gone by her place, but it was locked. I guess it had something to do with the unbound incident. I had to invite Lydia, a nurse and a former close friend of Ezra, to take a look. Lydia had tended to the woman’s wounds and injected her with some antibiotics and painkillers since her wounds weren’t healing on its own. It wasn’t unusual for Lycan’s to be unable to heal themselves. Only manifested Lycan’s could heal on their own, Lycan’s who could transform. The binding spell on me, meant that I could never manifest, hence I could not heal on my own. I had hoped that the woman would wake up before the end of the day, to at least tell me who she was and how to reach out to her family. Besides, I don’t exactly know how to take care of people. Heck, I have never had to take care of anyone or anything in my life, just my garden. She would be in better hands if

  • The Lycan King's Game    34 – The girl in the woods

Nena’s POV It didn’t matter how many deep breathes I took, I still felt really nervous. I knocked back the last of the concoction Helga had given me, the black liquid burned my throat on its way down, leaving a tingling feeling in my belly. By tomorrow, Helga would undo the binding spell and I can finally be free. I have trained every day in preparation for the selection event. I had also gone by the king’s training ground to watch the men train and I could tell that physically I wasn’t exactly a match, but with my powers I would more that stand a chance. I would win. I have to win. Instinctively, I reached for the photo on the night stand. Ezra had his signature wide, boyish smile on his face, with his eyes fixed on me. We had taken the photo on the day of our engagement. I wasn’t smiling in the picture, but the sunshine of his smile more than made up for my lack of smile. I had still been heartbroken over Fang. He had left me devastated, with no will to leave and without a

  • The Lycan King's Game    33 - How do you fight the dead?

Adonis’s POV Nate thundered through the forest at full speed, crunching dried leaves and stomping raised roots and fallen twigs in his path. The scents of the unbounds were still fresh, making it easier to track and Nate was still riled up from the attack, he hoped there would be more unbounds at the end of the trail for him to kill to his satisfaction. The three trackers, Neden, Zeke and Gozie, were still far behind. Even at full speed, they would not be able to catch up with Nate. Fang stayed back to take care of the feral Lycans and make sure that no unbounds were lurking around. Vee’s safety was priority now. Those unbounds were there for her and I have a feeling they will keep trying to take her. I need to know who wants her and why they want her. If this trail could lead me to whoever was involved in this, then I just might get my answers. Up ahead, I could hear a flowing river and the scent got stronger. Nate ran even faster, he may not be a big fan of water but to get

  • The Lycan King's Game    32 – Unbounds

Adonis’s POV When Helga stated that she sensed blood magic, I had a feeling that things were about to get messy. What I didn’t expect was it would get this messy. As soon as I had stepped out of the palace, I noticed Fang taking his taking his clothes off and growling at the distance. I couldn’t see what he was growling at but I sure as hell could feel them coming at us in full speed. The smell felt like acid burning through my nostrils all the way to my throat. It certainly was blood magic. But how? The circle had banned the use of blood magic by witches and sorcerers. So why then can I sense black magic and most importantly, how where they able to breach my territory. Nate growled in my head, in excitement as I took my clothes off. It has been five years since he got any real action. “Be careful,” Helga murmured, staring into the distance, with worry lines creasing her forehead and the corner of her eyes. There is only one witch I know uses blood magic, which was why the c

  • The Lycan King's Game    31 - Monster

Vee’s POV I don’t know what was in the bitter concoction the old woman gave me, but I was grateful for it. All the pain racking my body was gone in a matter of seconds. But I felt weak. I needed to sleep, to reboot my system and then find a way to leave this place before I and Vera are discovered. But first, a little power nap. My eyelids almost fluttered shut when the door to the balcony was kicked open, Adonis sprinted across the room with a cold expression etched on his face. Helga followed behind him, just not as fast. She looked even older with the worried frown on her face. Before I could form any words they were both out of the room, slamming the door behind them. Did something happen? As though in response to my question, several set of hurried footsteps echoed in the hallway. Fuck a power nap, I had to find out what was going on. I climbed out of bed and slowly got to my feet. A wave of dizzy spell hit me, I still myself, with my eyes pressed shut, and waited

  • The Lycan King's Game    30 – Firsts

Adonis’s POV All did I did was think about her. The gentle curves of her body, her long slender legs, her curly chestnut hair - that were always constricted in a bun - reminding me of the wild flowers that grew in my mother’s garden; the way her body had melded perfectly into mine, in a way that made me think of a slender hotdog engulfed in a buff buns. And God her scent! The natural fragrance lingered in my nostrils long after she ran out of the dining room. For the first time, her human scent wasn’t disgusting, it was delicious. Delicious enough to make me rock hard just by thinking about it. I had Nate and the mate bond to thank for that. I knew I had to stop thinking about the half breed in that manner, she wasn’t mine and she would never be. I only needed her to heal me and after that that, we'll go out separate way. The thought of killing her was no longer intriguing. I still couldn’t get a good night sleep, not after she had kissed me and left Nate all riled up. Now

  • The Lycan King's Game    29 – What the hell is Adonis?

Vee’s POV All I seemed to do was get in one trouble after another. I just wanted to maintain a low profile and get the hell out of here but it almost seems like the universe was against me leaving. A shirtless, bulky man, stood at the doorframe and glared down at me with bloodshot eyes. He looked at me with hate and indignation just like every other person here did. His dark eyes darted behind, the anger in his eyes seemed to have boiled over when he saw the trashed table behind me. “What do you think you are doing here?” he barked, shoving the door open and hitting my nose in the process. I winced, staggering backwards as my hands instinctively clutched my nose. “It wasn’t me,” I muttered weakly. Tears welled up in my eyes as pain seared through my nose. I hope it isn't broken. He stepped further into the room, with his alert eyes darting around for anything amiss. I tried to keep the fear sipping into my chest at bay, all of a sudden a broken nose became the least of my
