"Keena, please," I can hear the pleading in Jarek's voice but I refuse to give into the bond any longer.

I was prepared to sacrifice everything to be with him just because he is my mate and that is not how it should be. He should have accepted me for who I am and not tried to change me.

"Keena, please," he pleads with me again. "For both our sakes you have to accept this rejection."

I turn my head slightly in his direction. Unshed tears are now threatening to fall from his eyes. His hair is messier than normal and he looks thin. It makes me wonder if he is eating and then I remind myself that I don't care. It is just the mate bond making me care about him but it is also the one thing keeping me alive.
