The red, crackling crystal tumbled through the night air, dropping fast toward the stone courtyard below.

Down in the court, hundreds of our guards and servants lay unconscious under the shadow sleeping spell. If that overloaded siphon core struck the stone pavement, the explosion would tear through the palace foundations and kill everyone before they could even wake up.

"I’ll get it!" Valen roared.

Without missing a single beat, Valen vaulted over the stone balcony railing.

He didn't hesitate.

  • The Lycan King’s Stolen Mate   Chapter Ninety- Light in the Abyss

The cold wind roared in my ears as we plunged into the pitch-black void.It felt like falling through liquid ice. The thick shadow magic pressed against my skin, trying to snuff out the warmth in my chest and steal the air straight from my lungs. Below us, there was no floor, no landing spot only an endless sea of dark, hungry fog.In my arms, baby Aurora let out a sharp, terrified cry."I've got you, my sweet light," I choked out, wrapping my body around her small frame to shield her from the freezing air. "Mama has you!"I couldn't let us fall into the heart of Corvus’s dark realm. If the shadows claimed Aurora’s divine soul down here, we would never escape.I bit my lip so hard I tasted metallic blood. I closed my eyes and reached deep inside my soul, pulling every single strand of silver fire I had left."Light up!" I screamed into the howling darkness.BOOM!A blinding sphere of brilliant silver flame exploded outward from my chest, wrapping around me and Aurora like a glowing st

  • The Lycan King’s Stolen Mate   Chapter Eighty-Nine: Falling Into The Dark

The floor of the dragon-stone vault split wide open with a terrifying, bone-chilling crunch.A cold, dark wind roared up from the pitch-black crack, smelling like rotting earth and old ash. The heavy stone floor beneath my boots caved in, crumbling into an endless pit of darkness."Maeve!" I screamed, lunging forward with my free arm.I grabbed Maeve’s wrist just as she began to slide over the edge. Her eyes were still closed from the shadow spell, her limp body dangling dangerously over the dark void.My shoulder burned with sharp, unbearable pain as I held her weight with one arm, while holding baby Aurora tight against my chest with the other. My boots slipped on the crumbling edge, rock and dust raining down into the black abyss below."You cannot save everyone, Queen Lyra!" Varick shrieked. He was hovering above the void on a cloud of dark smoke, his face twisted into a maniacal grin. The corrupted royal seal in his hand pulsed with a sickly yellow light, making the void expand f

  • The Lycan King’s Stolen Mate   Chapter Eighty-Eight: Trapped in The Vault

The warm golden light of the dragon-stone vault died in an instant. The cold shadow magic spilled out from the stone walls, thick and oily. Maeve gasped, dropping the silver water basin she was holding. It hit the stone floor with a loud, ringing crash, water splashing across my boots."Stay behind me, Maeve!" I snapped, drawing my silver blade in a single smooth motion.I stepped between Varick and my daughter's crib, my heart hammering against my ribs like a trapped bird. My silver magic flared up, bright and hot, casting sharp shadows against the pitch-black walls of the vault.Varick looked terrible. Half of his face was covered in jagged black veins, and his dark armor was shredded and stained with dried blood where Valen’s sword had pierced him earlier. But the ancient royal seal in his left hand was glowing with a sickly, corrupted yellow light that cracked the heavy protective runes of the vault."You should have stayed dead, Varick!" I snarled, raising my blade."Death is for

"Gone?!" Valen yelled, his deep voice bouncing off the high courtyard walls. His golden Alpha eyes burned with fresh rage. He pulled away from me, stepping over the shattered stone pieces on the floor."I drove my broadsword straight through his chest," Valen growled, looking up at the high balcony of the royal tower. "No man survives a blow like that. Not even a shadow sorcerer.""He used shadow magic to fake his death," I said, holding baby Aurora tight against my chest. Her blue eyes were soft and quiet now, but the gold-and-blue crest on her wrist was still warm to the touch. "When the siphon crystal burst, the dark smoke covered his body. He escaped while we were stopping the explosion."Captain Thorne bowed his head low, his hand resting on his sword hilt. "The palace guards are waking up from the sleeping spell, Your Majesty. But the vault doors in the lower basement were blasted open. The ancient royal seal is missing from its stone case."Valen slammed his fist into a heavy s

He hurled his entire heavy body into the open air, diving headfirst down the face of the royal tower to save our city!"Valen, no!" I screamed, my heart leaping straight into my throat.I rushed to the edge of the broken balcony, holding onto the shattered stone railing.Far below us, Valen kicked off a carved stone gargoyle halfway down the tower wall, using the momentum to shoot forward like an arrow. He extended his giant, leather-gloved hand, reachi

  • The Lycan King’s Stolen Mate   Chapter Eighty-Five: The Emerald Storm

The emerald fire roared through the nursery, bright and terrifying. The hot green light washed over the high stone ceiling, instantly burning away the black shadow vines Varick had planted. The heavy glass from the shattered windows rained down onto the courtyard far below, clicking like hail against the stone walls.Varick screamed as the emerald heat slammed into his face. He held his arms up, shielding his eyes as the blinding light pushed his body back toward the doorway."What is this magic?!" Varick shrieked, his voice cracking with terror. "The crest was blue! It was supposed to be a seal of light!"Inside her golden cradle, baby Aurora was floating three feet in the air.Her tiny body was wrapped in a swirling sphere of emerald and silver flames. Her bright blue eyes were wide open, glowing like tiny stars as her raw celestial power poured out to protect herself. The mark on her wrist wasn't just a quiet crest anymore it was a raging inferno."Aurora!" I cried out, my voice fi
