(Zella’s POV)

I was walking through the crowded market of the Stone Trading Center, trying my best to act like I care about nothing in the world. Everywhere was smelling of tobacco and mixed with the pitching sound of the stone cutting machines from the back of the shops.

Mike was walking right beside me, with his hands in his pockets, looking like he was just bored out of his mind. But I knew he was watching everyone, especially the two people following us like hungry ghosts.

  • The Lycan's Gold Digger Wife    THE SIEGE

Zella's POV The House of Fortune was worlds away from those sketchy, mud-stained alleys at the Stone Trading Center. If the stone street was a messed-up ghetto, this joint was basically a palace made of glass and gold. The second Mike and I came through the doors, we were hit in the face by that icy, over-perfumed air. Expensive sandalwood or something, practically choking me. Everything was shiny enough to blind you: marble floors, gold everywhere, and people with nice faces. Honestly, it was the kind of place where rich folks went to cosplay as adventurers, but all they really did was channel their dirty money through overpriced rocks. My HUD flickered in the corner of my vision. [Survival Mission: The Night of the Long Knives] [Time Remaining: 04:42:15] [Host Status: Adrenaline spiked. Caution advised.] Four hours and some minutes. My heart was pounding like it wanted to get out of my chest. I glanced over at these buffed security guys near the elevators with earpieces sto

  • The Lycan's Gold Digger Wife    THE SIXTH HOUR HELL

THE SIX-HOUR HELL Zella's POV So, picture this—we're stuck in traffic, the road ahead’s a parking lot, and suddenly I spot two goons in suits coming right towards us. I quickly yanked Mike out of the cab, terribly horrified, but he still had the decency to throw some cash at the driver for, what, two blocks only that he’d driven? The guy's got manners even while panicking. We ducked sharply into this alley with cracked pavement; the smell could knock out a horse. “Keep…going… Mike!” I called out with my very dry throat, basically dragging him around a sketchy corner into a gap between two warehouses that look like they’re one good breeze away from collapsing. [Survival Mission: The Night of the Long Knives] [Time Left: 05:42:11] [Host Status: Toasted.] Heart rate: 145 BPM.] “Seriously? Five hours and forty-two minutes left?” I groaned, my voice cracking. I mean, come on. I wanted to scream, but with which lungs? I thought dodging bill collectors like I did in my past life was ro

  • The Lycan's Gold Digger Wife    THE SYNDICATE

Zella's POV I didn’t hang around to find out if the guys in the black car were actually going to shoot. My legs took off before my brain could even catch up. “Mike, move!” I yelled, grabbing the back of his jacket and shoving him toward the skinny gap between two busted-up brick buildings. Everything turned into a clusterfuck in no time. Heavy boots pounded the pavement behind us, and every step felt like someone stomping on my chest. I could hear them yelling something about “the girl” and “the bag,” but I didn’t look back. You never look back when sharks are chasing you. “Zella, my lungs are gonna explode!” Mike wheezed, his face gone so pale I actually got scared. He was clutching that stupid bag of jade like it was his kid. “Don’t you dare die on me, Mike! We’re almost there, just keep going!” I yelled. We got out of the alley and crashed into the crowded market street. I didn’t slow down. I ducked and moved through shoppers, sent a basket of fruit flying, and ignored the cu

  • The Lycan's Gold Digger Wife    HEAVENLY HEART JADE

Zella's POV You could honestly hear the tension rise in that shop —like, if you dropped a pin, the whole building would probably flinch. I just stared at the two halves of the stone in my hands, blinking like an idiot. I’d figured it would be cool, but damn, this thing? It was wild. Like someone bottled up a thunderstorm and pitch darkness, then stuffed it in a rock. That purple glow almost burned my eyeballs out. Mike just stood there with his jaw on the floor. “Holy crap,” he managed, sounding like he’d seen his grandma’s ghost. “Zella, am I tripping? That’s real jade, right? It’s practically radioactive.” Didn’t even bother answering him. Too busy watching the crowd transition from mockers to vultures. A minute ago, half of them were laughing at Lizzie, and now they were crowding in, eyes popping like cartoon characters. The greed in the air? You could taste almost it. Someone in the back whispered, all shaky, “Imperial Heart Jade. Clean as I’ve ever seen. That’s not just jade

  • The Lycan's Gold Digger Wife    A GAME OF CHANCE

Zella's POV The shop owner didn't waste any time. He took the hundred dollars and moved the ugly stone to the cutting machine in the center of the room. A small group of people had gathered inside the shop to witness the process –this often happens on the stone street, when someone is cutting a stone, apart from the fact that they could benefit from making friends with the owner, if it turns out to be a valuable jade, people also enjoy watching spectacular failure. Either way, they’re entertained. "Be careful with it," Lizzie commanded, standing as close to the machine as she could without getting sprayed with water. "I don't want any cracks in the jade." Mike leaned against a shelf next to me, with a faint smile on his lips. "You did that on purpose, didn't you?" he whispered. "I have no idea what you're talking about," I replied, though I couldn't hide much, the slight grin on my face. The machine started to cut through stone, chipping away at it, bit by bit. Lizzie was almos

But I knew he was watching everyone, especially the two people following us like hungry ghosts. Lizzie was practically glued to Dave’s side. She had this look of overrated confidence. A kind of look you have when a race hasn’t even started yet, but you already think you’ve won. She was busy tugging at Dave’s shirt every second, laughing at things that aren’t even funny. But I caught her glance occasionally at me, trying to see if I was watching. "Just ignore them," Mike whispered, leaning down so much that his mouth was right next to my ear. "She’s probably trying to get to you. Don't give her the sati
