~VALENTINO’S POV~

It had been seven days since everything exploded between Alina and me.

Seven long, dragging, bitter days.

I told myself I didn’t care, that it didn’t matter, that she betrayed me, and I did what I had to do.

But pretending not to care was harder than I expected.

I tried to drown myself in work; signed papers, held meetings, managed suppliers but even that didn’t help.

Nothing helped.

The silence felt louder. The empty space on the right side of the bed mocked me every night.

And the worst part? She hadn’t reached out.

Not a call. Not a text. Nothing.

I sat at my desk inside Tino Autos, my elbows on the dark mahogany surface, eyes fixed on the far wall.

Not seeing it, just staring. I wasn’t sure how long I’d been like that.

Did I overreact?

Maybe I did. Maybe not.

But I never wanted to lose her, I just wanted her to feel the weight of her actions, to realize she couldn’t lie to me and think I’d take it lying down.

I wanted to shake her

  • The Mafia Devil’s Contractual Wife    69. Death Room

~ALINA’S POV~The room looked like something straight out of a spy movie—the kind where the villain has a secret vault filled with polished guns, bulletproof vests, maps of the world with red dots on enemy cities, and weapons you only see in John Wick or James Bond films.Oh my gracious Lord. What in the actual James Bond is this?I stood frozen at the edge of the room, blinking in pure disbelief, waiting for the image to dissolve like a hallucination. My chest was tight, my breath shallow.Nope, this isn’t real.I slapped my face once. Then twice. Then a third time, hard.“Get a grip, Alina,” I muttered. But the truth stood firm in front of me—silent, sterile, and terrifying.I hadn’t expected to find anything when I went snooping. I’d been bored, maybe a little too curious for my own good. But this? This room? This was something you got killed for discovering.I stepped cautiously onto the glossy white floor, instantly aware of how unnaturally smooth it was. I pressed my foot down c

~ALINA’S POV~ It had been seven days since I stepped foot in this house. Seven long, soul-numbing, mind-tangling days. Days of doing absolutely nothing but waiting. Waiting for Vince to come home, waiting for the universe to show me a sign, waiting for someone—anyone—to tell me something about my father, about Valentino, about the truth. But nothing. Just silence, coffee, and the sound of Vince’s keys jingling every evening around 8:40 PM when he returned from the café. Every time I asked if I could step out, breathe some fresh air, or at least buy a croissant like a normal human being, he’d shoot me a soft smile and say, “Don’t stress, Alina, I’m already on it. If you go out, you could cast your location. You’ll lead him here, and I don’t want to be thrust back into that dark world.” I used to argue, saying no, I have to find the truth myself. But now? I just nodded, smiled, and waited, hoping one day he would bring me the information I want about my parents’ death

~VALENTINO’S POV~I stepped forward slowly, the gentle evening breeze tugging at the collar of my coat, but I barely felt it.My eyes were fixed on Rocco, on the guilt written all over his face.I tucked both hands into my side pockets, not to look casual but to stop them from trembling.I stopped a few feet away from him and let the silence settle between us, thick and charged. Then I spoke, “Thank you,” I said, holding his gaze.“For leading me here… for leading me to my wife.”“She’s not here,” he said immediately, holding up his hands. “And I’m sorry, I should have told you.”“You don’t have to be sorry,” I replied, tone tightening.“I know she made you promise not to tell me, i get it. But I also know Giulia doesn’t go anywhere without her, so where’s she?”Rocco hesitated. “She’s not here, boss. I swear.”“Rocco offered to let her stay here with us,” Giulia said, stepping in. “But she refused, she didn’t want to come. She said she had her own plans, something she needs to do alo

  • The Mafia Devil’s Contractual Wife    66. The Race

~VALENTINO’S POV~ We’d been trailing Rocco’s SUV for almost fifteen minutes now, weaving in and out of traffic like ghosts in a chase no one else could see. The sky above was dim, smeared with hints of dusky clouds as the city buzzed beneath it. My jaw clenched tighter every time his car turned. Where the hell was he going? Then I saw it. The towering iron gates of the University of Toronto, it stretched massively across the entryway, flanked by brick walls and two security guards in navy-blue jackets who stood like sentinels. The wide path beyond led into a tree-lined courtyard surrounded by tall academic buildings. Students were scattered across the space, some on benches, some with backpacks slung over their shoulders, others glued to their phones. “See?” Dante said beside me, eyes squinting. “He’s probably here to see his sister Joana. Told you he wouldn’t betray us.” “For the last time,” I muttered through gritted teeth, “keep your freaking mouth shut.” As

  • The Mafia Devil’s Contractual Wife    64. Nowhere Else To Go

~Alina’s POV~ Vincenzo drove us to his house and, sincerely, it wasn’t anything like I imagined. It wasn’t too big, not too small either, just a modest two-story tucked quietly at the edge of the city, surrounded by overgrown hedges and silence. The living room was dimly lit, with old wooden floors and a vintage rug that had seen better days. A gray sofa rested near the fireplace, and bookshelves lined the walls, cluttered with old novels, a few scattered photos, and a crooked ceramic ashtray that looked handmade. It wasn’t poor, but it wasn’t the kind of place I expected from a man who walked like he owned every street he stepped on. I sat curled on the edge of the couch, a wool blanket draped over my shoulders. My fingers trembled slightly as I gripped the warm cup of coffee Vincenzo had handed me minutes ago. The mug was chipped at the rim, but I didn’t care. I needed the heat. The silence in the room was thick. Giulia sat beside me, one arm wrapped around my sh
