~VALENTINO’S POV~

We’d been trailing Rocco’s SUV for almost fifteen minutes now, weaving in and out of traffic like ghosts in a chase no one else could see.

The sky above was dim, smeared with hints of dusky clouds as the city buzzed beneath it.

My jaw clenched tighter every time his car turned.

Where the hell was he going?

Then I saw it.

The towering iron gates of the University of Toronto, it stretched massively across the entryway, flanked by brick walls and two security guards in navy-blue jackets who stood like sentinels.

The wide path beyond led into a tree-lined courtyard surrounded by tall academic buildings. Students were scattered across the space, some on benches, some with backpacks slung over their shoulders, others glued to their phones.

“See?” Dante said beside me, eyes squinting.

“He’s probably here to see his sister Joana. Told you he wouldn’t betray us.”

“For the last time,” I muttered through gritted teeth, “keep your freaking mouth shut.”

Nikita’s POVThe sting on my cheek burned like someone had pressed a hot iron there, sharp and mean, refusing to fade.I stormed through the heavy oak doors of my suite and nearly crushed Decimus’s nose when I slammed them shut behind me.I ripped the cloak from my shoulders and let it fall to the floor in a heap, then kicked my heels off hard enough to send one skidding across the rug.My body felt too tight, too hot with rage.I dropped into the velvet chair before the vanity mirror, staring at my reflection. Perfect skin, perfect lips, perfect everything, except for that faint red mark blooming where that little bitch Giulia had dared to strike me.“Porca puttana (damn whore),” I spat, my voice sharp and venomous.“Filthy fucking bitch. Who the hell do they think they are, those pieces of trash?”Decimus scurried in, that crooked, fawning smile already plastered across his ugly face.He was behind me in an instant, his rough hands settling on my shoulders, kneading with just the r

~Alina’s POV~We sped back to Castello Romano, the tires screeching loudly as Val killed the engine. The moment the car stopped, we burst out.Giulia was already unraveling. Tears streaked her face, her hands trembling as she stumbled toward the entrance, panic swallowing her whole. The castle was chaos. Guards and staff ran in every direction, voices shouting orders, doors slamming. It looked like the entire household had been turned upside down in search of one tiny soul. Then Rocco appeared from a shadowed hallway, his face etched with worry, his eyes bloodshot.Giulia reached him in seconds. Her hands flew to his collar, yanking him close.“Where is my daughter?” she screamed, sending chill through everyone’s spine.“Where is my daughter?”Rocco’s mouth opened, but the words barely escaped. “I’m sorry… I don’t know where sh—“Giulia didn’t let him land— her palm cracked across his cheek once, twice, three times. Sharp, furious slaps echoed through the courtyard.Val and I froze,

  • The Mafia Devil’s Contractual Wife    134. Do You Blame Me?

~Alina’s POV~Silence settled in the room immediately after Nikita left, the heavy tension dissolving into something lighter. Then Val turned to me, took my hand again, and brushed his thumb over my knuckles in the most gentle, grounding manner ever.“Moglie mia,” he murmured. “Why don’t we have dinner outside? It’s been too long.”My chest softened, and I gave him a smile that said I am proud to be your king.“That’s true, my love. Everything’s been so chaotic, and we forgot how we used to do things. Back in Toronto. I miss those days.”He nodded once. “Then tonight.”Giulia groaned dramatically. “Don’t tell me you two want me to come with you.”“Where’s the little one?” Val asked, already leading me toward the exit.“With Rocco,” Giulia replied, bouncing on her feet.Val smirked. “Good. Then you’re coming with us. We need your loud mouth to keep things lively.”“Wow. Charming,” she muttered. “But fine. Your wish is my command, Don Romano,” she teased, mock-saluting.We stepped into

~Alina’s POV~ The room felt colder the moment Nikita’s last insult left her tongue, but I swallowed the sting and kept my spine straight. She wanted a reaction, a crack, a tremble, anything. But she’d get nothing from me.Not a single flinch. Before I could even decide whether to breathe or roll my eyes, she snapped her fingers at one of the younger maids who’d been lurking nervously by the doorway.“You,” Nikita barked. “Go call the Don. Tell him dinner is ready. Tell him I prepared it.” The maid nearly tripped over herself as she fled.Giulia and I exchanged a funny look.Minutes crawled by slowly, each one stretching the tension thinner and thinner. Then heavy footsteps echoed down the corridor. My stomach fluttered despite myself.Valentino walked in, his jacket slung over one shoulder, and sleeves rolled high enough to show the ink on his forearms. He took a slow look around: the banquet, Giulia, then the feast, then, last, to Nikita glowing like a smug peacock. He didn’t sm

~Alina’s POV~ Giulia and I had spent the whole day at the spa, pampering ourselves and little Ivana after the chaos of the week. Now, with our stomachs rumbling with hunger, we headed straight for dinner in the castle. Val had been flooding my phone with texts, whining about how bored he was without me. “Come home fast, moglie mia, I missed you and, of course, I can’t wait to see your new nails and kiss your hands silly,” his text read. I grinned at the screen just as we stepped through the massive front doors, Ivana tucked against my hip, her tiny fingers yanking at my hoop earrings like always. “Even after yesterday, she’s still here,” Giulia muttered under her breath, disgust dripping from every word. "Just how desperate could she become?" I glanced up from my phone as we started up the grand marble staircase that swept straight to the top floor, our private wing. “Nikita? You really thought she’d pack up and leave?” “Yes. I mean, that’s what any sane person would

  • The Mafia Devil’s Contractual Wife    131. Watch Your Back

~Alina’s POV~ What the hell? How could the Council hand over La Vergine to Nikita, of all people? My blood roared in my ears. This had to be some sick joke. The Council must have lost its damn mind. La Vergine is the Italian mafia’s ultimate shield, a weapon no one touches lightly. By law, La Vergine can only be bestowed upon a high-ranking member facing life-threatening danger from within the Mafia itself—someone standing between life and death. Whoever holds La Vergine in good faith, with the Council’s name and stamp visible, is granted complete protection and sanctuary. Any planned attack or enforcement against them must stop immediately. And anyone who defies or ignores La Vergine loses their standing and faces punishment — exile, fines, or even death — depending on their rank and the severity of the offense. Which means not even Valentino has the power to touch Nikita right now. “This is madness,” I hissed, stepping closer to Val, who was still studying the plaque with
