Annalissa Hale

I had a good feeling about today, I have a good feeling about the interview. Which is why I’m wearing my lucky colour—blue—and a pair of dark slacks. My hair is packed into a neat bun and I actually don’t look like someone that’s being consumed by her problems.

Dante left a little earlier this morning with Connor and since I don’t want him to know about the interview, I’ll have to sneak out.

I take a deep breath as I step into the living room, clutching my bag to my side. My eyes drift to the man Dante had stationed at the door. He’s built like a wall with his arms crossed and a blank expression.

His eyes move to my outfit and narrow slightly. I force a polite smile.

“The toilet’s clogged,” I lie smoothly. “Can you take a look?”

His brow furrows. “Now?”

His gaze sweeps over me from head to toe, lingering on my pressed clothes and neat bun. He’s clearly thinking the same thing: why the hell am I dressed like this if I’m just staying in?

“Yes, now,” I say with a b

Dante Romano Issa stands in front of the mirror, smoothing her dress for the tenth time. A small frown creases her forehead. She’s trying so hard to look calm, but I know better.I lean against the doorway, watching her. The blue sundress hugs her in all the right places. When she finally catches my reflection in the mirror, I can’t help but smile. She turns. Her eyes are bright but nervous. I close the distance, tuck a strand of hair behind her ear, and press a kiss to her cheek.“We should head downstairs,” she whispers.I nod once. She walks beside me, chin up like she’s not shaking inside. No one would know what we just did upstairs, except maybe me. Because I can still feel her pulse on my fingertips. When we step into the dining room, everyone’s already finishing their meals. I feel her tense beside me, trying to compose herself. I pull her chair out, wait for her to sit before taking mine. Ornella looks at me, her eyebrows raised with that mischievous smirk of hers alread

Annalissa HaleHeat curls through me as Dante’s lips travel along the length of my neck. My lips curl into a smile even though he can't see it. He's too busy tormenting me with his mouth, planting wet, open-mouthed kisses on the side of my throat.Arousal starts deep in my core and spreads outward, dancing through my body and tingling in all my erogenous zones. Every time his lips kiss a new patch of skin, I shiver with pleasure. When his tongue tickles my jaw, I turn my head toward him and our mouths meet in the hottest kiss on the planet.I love the way he kisses. It's not sloppy or hurried, but skillful and slow and absolutely incredible. His lips brush mine, lazy and teasing, while his tongue sneaks inside every so often for a fleeting taste seductively retreating. I slant my head and drive the kiss deeper, and I moan when the wine flavor of him infuses my tongue. A masculine rumble comes from the back of his throat, and my belly clenches in response.A knock at the door makes

Last chapter has been edited. Read the last chapter before this. Annalissa HaleI suck in a deep breath as I take one last look at my reflection in the mirror. I’m in a soft blue sundress with a pair of flats and my hair is tied into a neat bun. Tonight’s dinner has to go well. The clock on the wall says 8:00.Any moment now, Dante’s family will arrive.A loud screech of tires cuts through the silence from outside, and my stomach drops. They’re here.Oh God, they’re actually here.I grab the edge of the dresser, inhale deeply, and hurry out of the room before my nerves can talk me into hiding. I almost run straight into Dante in the hallway. His timing is always uncanny. He catches me by the waist before I stumble. His brows furrow as his gaze sweeps over my face.“Hey,” he murmurs. “Don’t panic.”“I’m not panicking,” I lie, giving him a nervous smile. He doesn’t look convinced. His hand stays on my side before he leans forward and presses a soft kiss to my forehead.“You’ve got t

Annalissa Hale The mansion smells like rosemary and roasted meat. I walk across the living room, straightening a vase for the fifth time even though it doesn’t need fixing. My hands won’t stop fidgeting. Tonight has to go perfectly. The crystal glasses gleam under the chandelier light. The candles are set as per my orders and the napkins are also folded into perfect fans. Everything is ready. And yet my stomach twists like it knows something will go wrong. “Did you check the wine?” I ask one of the maids as I turn toward the dining table. “Yes, Signora,” she says with a small smile. “Everything is perfect.” Perfect. I glance toward the clock, it’s 6:05 p.m. Less than an hour until Dante’s family arrives. Less than an hour until I have to face his mother and grandfather, people who once welcomed me as Clarissa, who looked me in the eyes and believed I was someone else. A month ago, everything changed. I still remember the press conference, the flashes of cameras, the murmur

Annalissa HaleI fold the last of Dante’s clothes into the small hospital bag and sigh. The room smells faintly of antiseptic and his cologne which is an odd combination that, somehow, feels comforting now. It’s been three days since the night everything changed. Three days of monitoring his recovery, making sure he actually stayed in this hospital bed even when he kept saying, “A Don never abandons his empire.”He’d said it with that same stubborn glint in his eyes, and I’d rolled mine, telling him that even Dons need stitches to heal. It took a glare, a hand on my hip, and a soft “please, for me,” for him to stay put. Now, as I zip the bag shut, I think about the last couple of days and how they somehow became about us.Morning coffee, him teasing me for the way I stir too long. Me pretending not to notice the way his eyes softened every time I laughed. We’d even taken walks down the hospital corridor, hand in hand. It’s almost like the honeymoon we never got.I haven’t fo

Annalissa HaleI’m pacing. Back and forth. Back and forth. My palms are cold, but I can’t stop wringing them. Clarissa… has been kidnapped. By Thomas. The same man she swore loved her. The man she ran away with. How could she have been so blind? My mind won’t stop spinning with questions that have no answers. I may hate her for everything she’s done like lying to me, ruining my life, leaving me to pick up the ashes but she’s still my sister. My blood. I don’t want her to die.And Dante…God, please let him be okay.My phone vibrates on the counter and I nearly drop it as I grab it. “Hello?”Connor’s voice crackles through the line. “Signora, the Don is at the hospital, he’s hurg. Clarissa’s safe.”My knees nearly give out. “Wh-what do you mean hurt? Is it bad? How bad?”“I can’t say for now,” Connor says quickly. “Just… get ready. I’ll come pick you up.”God, I can’t wait. I grab my bag and run out. The guard Dante stationed by the door calls after me, insisting on driving instead.
