However, Flora's assumption was wrong. Devon instead stepped inside with tears seeping down his cheeks. The gentle man knelt on the bathroom floor, then pulled Flora from Vanessa's arms into his own warm embrace.

"Flo..." Devon's voice was hoarse, choked by an extraordinary tightness in his chest. "Forgive me... Forgive me because I failed to protect you that night."

Flora sobbed heavily against Devon's chest, gripping the man's shirt tightly in despair. "Devon... I am already dirty... our wedding must—"

"No, Flo. Our wedding will still go on," Devon cut her off firmly. He tightened his embrace, burying his face in Flora's hair. "I love you, not just for your physical purity. Tomorrow, we will still stand at the altar and bind our vows. I accept you as you are."

Flora cried tears of emotion in Devon's embrace, feeling saved by the extraordinary sincerity of her groom-to-be.

The sincerity that Devon showed in front of Flora turned out to be the exact opposite of his shattered soul. The vision that the woman he so deeply loved had been touched, violated, and brutally claimed by Arthur Sterling kept looping in his brain, triggering a sense of worthlessness as a man.

That night, for the first time in his life, Devon, who was known as a good man and rarely ever touched alcohol, stepped inside a noisy and dimly lit nightclub in a corner of Manhattan.

"Give me the strongest one!" Devon ranted to the bartender.

The bartender nodded silently, then slid a glass filled with dense amber alcohol in front of Devon. The completely frustrated Devon immediately snatched the glass and downed its contents in a single gulp. The first glass, the second, up to the third glass moved quickly to his stomach.

However, moments after the third glass was finished, Devon suddenly felt something wrong with his body.

His breath suddenly felt heavy and suffocating. His heart raced frantically with an extremely severe beat. A strange and thick wave of heat suddenly burned through his entire bloodstream, spreading quickly and centering at his groin, which was now hardening tightly in an unnatural way. Devon's vision blurred, his world spun, and all of his strength was suddenly paralyzed.

As Devon began to groan from the heat on the bar stool, a soft hand suddenly touched his shoulder.

Vanessa.

"Oh my god, Devon? What are you doing here?" Vanessa asked with a facial expression that looked highly shocked. She immediately wrapped her arm around Devon's body, which was already burning hot and limp.

"V-Vanessa... my body... is strange..." Devon ranted hoarsely with hitched breaths, trying to resist the pull, but his consciousness was already on the brink.

"You are heavily drunk, Dev. Come on, I'll take you back to your apartment before you pass out here," Vanessa whispered in a highly anxious and caring tone of voice.

Beneath Vanessa's support, Devon, who had already lost control over his body's nerves, could only helplessly let himself be guided out of that noisy place, into a taxi, until finally they arrived at Devon's luxury apartment unit.

Once they arrived at the apartment, Vanessa supported Devon's limp body onto the king-size bed. Devon collapsed on his back with racing breath and sweat soaking his forehead due to the heat torturing his body.

Vanessa stood at the edge of the bed. Slowly, the anxious look on her face vanished, replaced by a cunning, satisfied smile as she stared at Devon's helpless, handsome face.

"If only you had chosen me from the very beginning, Dev... None of this mess would have ever happened."

Vanessa showed her true colors. She was the main mastermind behind what happened to Flora, and now Devon.

"Tonight... I will make you mine," Vanessa whispered coldly.

Vanessa crawled up and caged Devon's body. Her hands moved to unbutton Devon's shirt one by one, exposing the man's broad chest, which felt extremely hot.

Vanessa smiled in satisfaction. "Dev, you know, I am the one who had Flo raped that night. I was the one who ordered it," she whispered softly to Devon. Devon, who no longer had full consciousness, did not understand what Vanessa was saying.

"And tonight, it's my turn to take Devon." She began to gently stroke Devon's handsome face.

Vanessa's touch instantly ignited Devon's passion, which was already on the brink. Devon groaned heavily, then slowly opened his eyelids, which felt extremely hot and heavy.

His blurred and chaotic vision made the reflection of Vanessa's face in front of him suddenly turn into the figure of the woman he loved so deeply.

"Honey... you came?" Devon whispered hoarsely, reaching out his hand to stroke Vanessa's cheek.

Vanessa smiled triumphantly. "Yes, I came, Honey..."

"Don't worry... whatever happens, I will still marry you. I love you, Flo," Devon groaned, thinking the woman on top of his body was Flora.

Even though there was a burst of disappointment in her heart because Devon kept calling Flora's name, Vanessa did not care. To her, physical possession tonight was the absolute weapon to trap this man later.

"Yes, we will get married as soon as possible, Devon... I love you too," Vanessa whispered right in front of Devon's face.

Hearing that answer, Devon, who thought he was with Flora, immediately pulled the back of Vanessa's neck. He devoured the woman's lips ravenously, wildly, and full of passion.

"Sixty million is a lot of money, Rossi," Arthur rasped, his voice echoing off the damp concrete walls of the tunnel. Blood dripped steadily from his chin, staining his ruined black shirt."It buys a private island, Boss," Rossi laughed, keeping his assault rifle aimed squarely at Arthur's chest. "It buys a new life. And all I have to do is put a bullet in you.""The High Council does not pay traitors," Arthur stated coldly. "They use you to do their dirty work, and then they bury you to tie up loose ends. You are a dead man, Rossi.""I will take my chances," Rossi sneered. "Kill the girl first. I want him to watch her die."The guard standing to Rossi's right shifted his laser sight directly to the center of Flora's forehead.Flora's breath hitched. She gripped Arthur’s arm tighter. She was terrified, but a cold, dark fury began to override her fear. She was tired of men holding guns to her head."Keep him talking," Arthur whispered softly, his lips barely moving against her ear. He forced the barrel upward.Finch pulled the trigger. The gunshot was deafening inside the small, enclosed metal box. The bullet missed Flora’s stomach by an inch, ricocheting off the reinforced steel ceiling and burying itself into the back wall.Arthur twisted the gun barrel violently, trying to snap Finch’s wrist. But Arthur was bleeding out, his strength failing rapidly. Finch fought back, pushing the gun back down toward Flora.Flora did not freeze. She didn't wait for Arthur to save her. She pulled the 9mm pistol from her waistband, stepped forward, and aimed the barrel directly at Finch’s hand wedged betw

The private elevator chimed. The soft, polite ding cut through the blaring security siren like a knife."Marcus, hallway!" Arthur roared, grabbing Flora by the arm and shoving her hard behind the massive, reinforced steel frame of the king-size bed. "Hold the choke point! Do not let them spread out!""Yes, Boss!" Marcus shouted. He dove behind a thick marble pillar near the bedroom entrance, raising his submachine gun."Keep your head down," Arthur ordered Flora, his breathing heavy and ragged. He knelt beside her, resting his pistol on the edge of the mattress, aiming directly at the bedroom doors. "If anyone in a gray uniform crosses that threshold, you shoot to kill."Flora gripped her 9mm pistol with both hands. Her heart pounded violently against her ribs. "I'm ready."A deafening explosion shook the penthouse. The heavy mahogany front doors were blown completely off their hinges, splintering into a thousand pieces of lethal shrapnel. Arthur stared at the glowing screen of his cell phone. His jaw locked so tightly the muscle jumped beneath his skin. He didn't yell. He didn't throw the phone. His silence was far more terrifying than any scream. He slowly turned his head. His dark eyes locked onto Dr. Aris."Who did you tell?" Arthur asked. His voice was a quiet, lethal hiss.Aris took a frantic step backward, his back hitting the bedroom wall. "Nobody! Boss, I came straight up to the penthouse! I swear on my life!"Arthur tossed the phone onto the black silk sheets next to Flora. She looked down at the bright screen. The message from Alistair Finch stared back at her, sealing her death warrant."Finch just texted me," Arthur stated. He raised his 9mm pistol and aimed it directly at the doctor’s face. "He knows the exact results of a scan you ran ten minutes ago in my private home. Explain that to me, Aris. Right now."Aris dropped to his knees, his hands trembling violently. "The machine! Flora stared at him, the air in the luxurious bedroom suddenly turning to ice. Her grip tightened on the black silk sheets."You are insane," Flora breathed, her voice trembling. "I just woke up from toxic shock. Your femoral artery was severed yesterday. You have shattered ribs. You can barely walk without tearing your stitches.""I have enough strength to claim what is mine," Arthur replied. His voice was low, vibrating with a dark, unyielding dominance. He moved closer, his uninjured arm caging her against the headboard. The faint scent of whiskey and medical iodine clung to him. His dark eyes were heavy with unfiltered lust, entirely focused on her mouth."The High Council does not operate on our schedule, Flora," Arthur said, his thumb gently tracing the line of her jaw. "Victor left a very specific message. Silas’s captains are demanding proof of stability. If the Sterling and Finch bloodlines do not merge and produce a legitimate heir, they will declare my takeover invalid. The

Finch did not lower his silver handgun. His finger trembled on the trigger."She poisoned herself!" Finch yelled, his gray eyes wild with fury. "It is a trick! Look at her! She is dying on your floor, Victor!"Arthur dropped to his knees, completely ignoring the tearing pain in his own stitched chest. He grabbed Flora’s shoulders and pulled her limp body against him. Her skin was burning hot. Her lips were pale, and her breathing was dangerously shallow."Get a medic!" Arthur roared, glaring at Victor. "Now!""Drop the gun, Alistair," Victor repeated. He did not yell. His voice was a flat, lethal command. "The machine verified the DNA. The woman in Arthur's arms is Elena Finch. The bloodline is confirmed.""I buried my daughter!" Finch spat."You buried a stranger," Victor corrected smoothly. "And if you pull that trigger, you will join her. My guards have fifty rifles aimed at your chest. Do you really want to die tonight because you cannot accept you lost your leverage?"Finch looke
