Chapter 4

Author: Grogan
'How fascinating.' The corners of my lips curled up.

Yet Ethan didn't know when to stop. Striding up to me like a victor, he got right in my face.

"Why don't you just stay in the storage room and watch how I take your woman and your company away from you, you loser?"

The moment he heard high heels clicking around the corner, he grabbed my tie, shoved me hard, and took a step back with a deeply aggrieved look.

"This is what Stella wanted! How can you blame me?!"

"Alan, what do you think you're doing?!" Stella rushed into the room, instantly placing herself in front of Ethan to protect him.

"Starting today, you have no right to point fingers at Ethan ever again!"

She slammed a stack of documents onto the desk in front of me. "I've made my decision. I'm transferring fifteen percent of the company's shares to Ethan. He's going to be a shareholder now.

"As for you, sign this and hand over all your equity. Otherwise, I will revoke all copyright licenses for my artwork immediately! Our partnership ends here, and the company dissolves!"

I stared into her eyes.

Ethan had traded three hundred thousand dollars for fifteen percent of the company. Meanwhile, the company I had painstakingly built over five years was being threatened with dissolution by the woman I had loved for six years, all to force me to surrender my forty-nine percent stake.

She wanted me completely out of the picture.

"Don't fight it, Alan. Ethan looked into it yesterday. There's no law in El Tricolor that says you have to get married by thirty or face an arranged marriage. I know you packed your bags on purpose just to make me mad and get my attention.

"Be a good boy and sign over the shares. Work under Ethan to manage my artwork properly, and there will still be a place for you in my company.

"Maybe then I'll consider becoming your wife again. Otherwise, you can get out on the streets and be a homeless bum."

I laughed. Any last shred of pity I had held for her before leaving was now completely gone.

I picked up the pen and signed my name on the equity transfer agreement.

What she didn't know was that I had already transferred those shares yesterday. Even if I had signed this document ten times, it was completely void.

I capped the pen and offered her a faint smile. "Works out great. I resign."

"What did you say?" Stella frowned, looking like she couldn't quite believe her ears.

"You don't need to fire me. I'm leaving on my own."

Ignoring her bewildered expression, I turned around and walked away, taking the company's financial books and client directory with me.

Stella rushed after me, shouting at my back in desperation, "Alan! Don't you dare regret this..."

Regret? How could I possibly regret this? Tomorrow, when I board that plane back home, she'll realize the forty-nine percent stake was no longer held by a private individual, but by an organization.

A mafia under the King family, one I was slated to inherit after marriage, that no one, whether in North Usonia or back in El Tricolor, would ever dare to cross.

When that time comes, she will be the one who regrets it.

"No! It can't be!"Tears burst from Stella's eyes like a broken dam as she shrieked hysterically. "He can't just abandon me like this! Tell me where the wedding is! I'm going to find him!" She grabbed Joe, refusing to let go no matter what."Have you got a death wish?! Get off me!"Joe frowned impatiently, raising his fist to strike, only to freeze halfway in mid-air."Mr. Alan gave explicit orders not to hit women."His icy gaze shifted toward Ethan, looking at him as if he were already a dead man."Since you can't keep your woman in check, you can take her punishment for her."Several men stepped forward immediately, pinning Ethan to the floor and beating him to a pulp.Covered in blood, Ethan howled in agony. "Help! Stop! Don't hit me! Please spare me! Tell Alan that Stella and I have nothing to do with each other! She was the one who seduced me! This whole thing is her fault!"Please! I was wrong! I didn't know Alan was the heir to the mafia! Please let me go just this o

"Ethan... what are you talking about?" Stella went completely cold, her voice trembling violently.Ethan didn't even dare look at her, desperately begging for mercy."Please spare me!" As he whimpered, the fabric of his trousers suddenly darkened. A foul, pungent liquid streamed down his pants, soaking the floor.Joe, the capo, wrinkled his nose in disgust."What do you take us for? Common thieves?! We are members of the El Tricolor mafia, not street thugs! We don't do dirty, low-class shakedowns!"He pulled out an equity transfer agreement stamped with official legal seals and slapped it onto the desk."Our acquisition is entirely by the book. Mr. Alan King has legally assigned all the equity under his name over to our organization."Joe looked up at her coldly."From a legal standpoint, our organization is the single largest shareholder of this company and holds full authority to take over operations."Stella's brain went completely numb."Impossible! Has Alan gone insane?!

Ethan’s face went ghostly pale. He carefully gathered the bills from the floor, his tone timid."Stella, please don't lose your temper. Let's just focus on finding a way to pay off this debt first.""You're asking me?!" Stella screeched, her voice sharp enough to make his ears ring."You're the one in charge of sales now! Why is it that the moment Alan leaves, you can't sell a single painting?!"Ethan hung his head dejectedly. "Art isn't a basic necessity like food or shelter. Its entire value depends on the painter's reputation and industry connections. The second Alan walked out, the entire marketing system collapsed. There's nothing I can do!"A flash of malice flickered deep in his eyes."This is all his fault! He's narrow-minded and jealous of me, and he'd love nothing more than to see this company go straight under! Those clients and sponsors probably pulled out just to target me because of you. He just wants to destroy your reputation and watch you crumble!""Crumble..."

The plane landed smoothly on the runway of the King family’s private airfield.I stepped out of the cabin. Outside the hangar, a fleet of sleek black luxury cars was lined up in precise formation—the absolute highest level of welcome my family could offer.A man in a dark, tailored suit stepped forward and walked slowly toward me.He was the terrifying don who controlled the entire underworld of El Tricolor: my father."My son, welcome home."He patted my shoulder, a look of long-lost pride gleaming deep in his eyes. "From now on, the mafia and the King family are entirely in your hands."I nodded. The very next day, I met the woman my father had arranged for me to marry: Olivia Garcia, the only daughter of the North Usonia mafia's don.We scheduled our first meeting at a quiet cafe. The moment I walked in, I spotted Olivia sitting by the window. The afternoon sunlight outlined her delicate features, and resting in her lap was an out-of-print art book. The minimalist signature

Stella's face drained of color, her usual arrogance vanishing in a heartbeat. Standing beside her, Sam was sweating profusely, looking timidly back and forth between the two of them."Ms. Ross, if all these orders get canceled and the sponsors pull their funding, our cash flow is going to dry up in less than a month! The company will go under!"The office fell into a dead silence.Stella's mind went blank, and she turned to Ethan in utter helplessness. "Ethan, what do we do?"Ethan, however, was as pale as a sheet, cold sweat beading on his forehead. He was even more panicked than she was, keeping his mouth tightly shut.Seeing that neither of them had an answer, Sam spoke up."Ms. Ross, I don't think it's a coincidence that the clients and sponsors are all pulling out at the same time. There has to be a reason behind it. Mr. King built and maintained every single one of those relationships. Maybe he can fix this."Why don't we contact Mr. King? Ask him to come back and figure s

I leaned back into my first-class seat. The moment the plane glided down the runway and lifted into the sky, an overwhelming sense of relief washed over me.Meanwhile, back at the office, an unexplainable restlessness settled over Stella. She stood by the window, watching contrails streak across the clear sky.She glanced down at her watch, her brow furrowing. As of right now, I hadn't even shown up to work.Ethan pushed the door open and stepped inside, wrapping his arms around her with tenderness."Congratulations, Stella. From now on, you'll never have to be held back by him again, let alone walk on eggshells around him!"He made a solemn promise. "Now that Alan has resigned, I will stay by your side and replace him in running the company. I'll make you a household name—a true top-tier artist!"Stella's face hardened as she shot back, "No way. Alan won't actually resign! He's just putting on a show! He's using leaving and quitting to threaten me, trying to make me soft and fo
