I stared out the window of my plane watching the clouds go by, while on one hand was a letter from my grandfather asking me to return to Greece. I spent most of my life in the US studying after the death of my parents, Grandfather thought it was better for me to stay away from all these until he could finally call me home. My name is Liliac Roman, Granddaughter of Roman Derez, the God father of the City of Greece and the most ruthless Mafia kingpin in the whole of Greece. Once I arrived at the airport, I was taken through a special convoy back home. I have missed Greece, studying abroad made me miss home more than anything. Grandfather waited for me at the entrance of his estate, “liliac” he stretched forth his hand to me and I ran into the them. The years haven’t been favorable to him, his hair was now stricken white and he could barely walk without his cane. “I’ve missed you Grandpa” “I missed you too my little beetle” I smiled, he hadn’t forgotten the nickname he always called me. “Come in, we have a lot to discuss” he said. The Roman family are known for one thing, we barely have patience, once we got to his study, he sat me down and began his briefings. “What?” I screamed at him when I realized what he had just uttered. “Calm down Liliac” he deferred. “No” I shook my head as I sprung up from my seat, I should have known that he didn’t call me back because he missed me. It’s been two years since I graduated and he never reached out. Now he wants me to get married. “I am not marrying him” I blurted out. “It is not up to you dear, it’s up to him” By him, he was referring to Carter Reign, Son of Mr Reign, and heir to the Reign industries. I have loathed this man from the day I was born, why? When I was five, he bullied me into jumping from the school window with just an umbrella. Aside from the fact that he was my childhood bully, he was also the son of our rivals. The Roman family and the Reign family have been at each other’s neck for years, each struggling for control over Greece, somehow my Grandfather managed to stay on top of them but that doesn’t mean they have surrounded to him. Carter Reign was ruthless, at the age of five he had made his first kill, while I made mine at 9, where I shot a bear. It wasn’t the same thing as Carter who killed his uncle in cold blood. “I have already sent a picture of you to him and my proposal, let’s just hope that he accepts you as his wife” Grandfather continued. I begin biting my fingernails, a nervous tick I had developed from staying abroad, I silently prayed that he would reject me but who am I kidding. Carter enjoyed bullying me when we were kids, he loved watching tears fall down my eyes, while he laughed at me and called me names. He would do anything to make me miserable like marrying me. There was knock on the door then a man walked in with an envelope in a tray, my Grandfather reached for it then opened it. His hands fell and his countenance changed, “What is it?” I asked. “He rejected you” he replied. “What?” That sounded more absurd to me than him accepting me, I grabbed the letter and read it, there it was, Carter has really rejected me. Who the hell does he think he is to reject me, was he doing this to taunt me, or it was because he really didn’t want me. I stared back at Grandfather and he seemed to be more disappointed than I was, I know I should be happy that I wasn’t marrying Carter, but I also hate the fact that he rejected me. I should be the one rejecting him after all that he did to me. I watch my Grandfather hastily jump from his seat, he barely needed his cane as he racked through the drawers bringing out a file of papers. “Sign each and every one of them now” he ordered. I stared at him frantically, these papers were more than the workload on his table, it would take me hours to finish reviewing and signing them. “I can take them to my room and read them” I suggested. “Sign them now” he barked at me, frenzy written all over his face, it was the first time he has raised his voice at me. “What’s going on?” I asked watching him step backwards until his back was pressed against the wall. He looked scared, nothing has ever scared my Grandfather like this, infact I have barely seen any emotion on his face, not even on the day my parents died. “Sign the papers” he ordered. I began flipping through the pages as I signed my signature on each one of them, he made sure I didn’t miss a single page of it. After two hours, I was finally done, my back aches from bending over so much. I had barely dropped my pen when a man walked into the room, wearing a black suit, and a big briefcase. He gave me a slight nod then began arranging the papers on the desk. “Go to your room Liliac, I will call you when I need you” Grandfather insisted, I got to my feet and made my way to the door. “Is this enough?” I heard my Grandfather ask, “I will try my best” the man responded. “Please do all that you can, I am depending on you” I closed the door behind me, confused by what was going on, something was wrong and I could feel it in my guts. It’s noon of the next day, weekend to be precise. We arrived at the Gretes Mansion, smaller than our estate but big enough to see how powerful they were. We walked past five guards on our way in, until we finally got to the house. Mr Gretes was seated in the front, two of his sons were seared on the right while one of them stood behind, leaning on the wall. Gretes has five children, Three boys and two girls. Yet there wasn’t a sign of a female in the room except my presence. I found him seated high and mighty in his chair, a displeased look on his face, the moment he saw me. “Mr Gretes, it’s nice to finally meet you” I greeted, he just let out a grunt and gestured for me to sit. I could feel the disrespect but ignored it, when you are new to the world, you always have to prove yourself, and I definitely don’t mind that. I sat on the couch to my left while Alfred stood behind me, “What brings you to my home?” He asked tapping his half lit cigarette down the glass
I woke up expecting it to bright outside but it was still dark, I picked up my watch to see that it was past 9pm. I already knew how I winded up in bed after dozing off in the car, Alfred carried me. The smell of food filtered into my room, immediately my stomach began to grumble. I stepped out of my room and towards the kitchen where I found him. He had on grey sweatpants and a brown fitted top, clinging to his muscles. His arms bulged as he flipped over the frying pan, the fire from the gas flares. I know he had always looked good but this was a different kind of good, the kind that makes you want to strip him just to see what he has to offer. I leaned against the door watching him, my lips dry as I try to swallow what’s left of my tongue. I could feel the room getting hot, not just from the heat of his cooking but from… you know what I mean. Concentrate Liliac, I warned myself. “What are you making?” I picked an apple from the basket and threw my ass over the c
“You should watch the way you speak to me Mr Wyatt” I boldly faced him, I had enough of him acting like he was on top of me. For the sake of family I hadn’t thrown him out of the meeting but he keeps pushing for it. He wouldn’t even be considered as family if Grandfather was seated here today. “You must be crazy to think that I would let you do that, our family has a long tradition of donating for charity” he expelled my words to remind me of family. Family! “Our family, last I remember you were disowned, you no longer bear the family name. What right do you have to say our family?” I asked him. His mouth was sealed, he hadn’t expected me to air his personal matters in front of the board but since he chose to disrespect repeatedly, it was my duty to put him in his place. The meeting had turned into a full blown fight between me and my uncle, eyes widened at us. Neither of us wanted to submit to the other. I had every right because I was the heir and he claims to have
It was my first day at the office since I came back, I had been putting it off or days but it had finally caught up with me. I knew the perks of running a company, I have a Bsc in Business management but I still couldn’t shake off the nervousness I was feeling. I am a beautiful white gown that stops at my knee, I had combed my hair to the back while I stared at my reflection in the mirror. I stepped down the stairs until I got to the door, I found Alfred standing by the car. His eyes sparkled once he saw me, “You…look beautiful” he said. “Thank you” I replied. Since he hadn’t fully healed, I hired a driver that would be taking me to work until Alfred was okay, he may have insisted to drive me but I didn’t want to pressure him with that. We finally arrived at the office, it was just as big as the estate but with three more floors, the staffs had all gathered by the lobby to greet their new CEO. “Welcome ma’am” a woman in her mid thirties, wearing a brown shirt and black
