LOGINI was in my room enjoying the view of the sun reflecting on the cliff when I got summoned by Grandfather, after what happened yesterday, we barely had time to talk to each other.
“You called for me” I asked as I walked into his study, “Yes” he leaned back into his chair, his eyes were dark and heavy, like he hadn’t had any sleep. “I have hired a personal bodyguard for you” he stated. I looked puzzled, “Why would I need a personal bodyguard?” The men surrounding the estate were more than enough. “For protection, he is the best at what he does” I still couldn’t shake off the fact that he was scared, knowing him, he wouldn’t tell me what it is no matter how many times I asked. “I can protect myself” I answered, “I know but I have already hired him, he will be here any minute from now.” While studying the US, I also learnt martial arts to defend myself, as a child from such a powerful family, I was bound to have enemies so I made sure I was prepared. “If you say so” I responded giving him a kiss on his forehead as I walked out of the study. I hadn’t prepared for the winter in Greece, it was much colder here than it was in the US, I needed more clothes to keep me warm. I took a shower and grabbed a pair of white tees and a jean, then grabbed my purse. There was no need to bother Grandfather about where I was going, it was just a little shopping and I would be back before he knew it. I took the keys to his black Mercedes and drive out of the estate to the closest boutique. After an hour of shopping for clothes and a little distraction into shopping for shoes and jewelry, it was time for me to head back home. My hands were completely full as I made my way to parking lot. Barely reaching for the keys in my purse, I didn’t notice the car riding towards me. “Watch out” a voice yelled and pulled me before I was run over by the car. I stumbled to the ground, my head resting on chest of this strange figure. When I raised my head to him, I was met with a set of dangerous blue eyes staring back at me. Short brown hair, tight jaw and a bit of a mustache, he was gorgeous. I had no idea men like this could be bodyguards, he would excel more if he were a model. He gently pulled me off the ground, and before I knew it, I was spun around. The sound of a gunshot flew past my ears, blood splattered on my face. He had been shot, I watched in horror as the people who shot him drove away in a haste. “This way ma’am” he pointed towards my car as he held my hand, I hadn’t fully recovered from the gunshot aimed at me. Who was he? And why did he save my life? Was this what Grandfather was worried about, that I might get killed. “My name is Alfred ma’am, Alfred Kane. Your Grandfather hired me to be your bodyguard” I could hear him whisper. Or maybe his voice sounded like a whisper because I was still grossed over the fact that someone tried to kill me. “Ma’am” he called again pulling me out of my thoughts. “Miss, call me Miss” I corrected him. “Okay Miss” he responded and drove off. When we got back to the Estate, there were barely any guards around the gate. Only to realize that they were all in the house, their faces grim as I walked into the house. “What’s going on?” I asked confused. Beck, the head of Security walked towards me, “ma’am, it’s your Grandfather” he bellowed. He paused in his words and my brows knotted in fury. “What’s do you mean?” “He… he…” I couldn’t wait for him to finish the sentence as I run towards the study. There my Grandfather was, laying in the pool of his own blood, his head on the desk as he held a cup of tea in his hand. “No!!!!!!” I screamed as I rushed towards, “This can’t be happening” Tears spilled from my face, I twirled his chair to face me and his face fell downward, there was no life in him. “Wake up” I grabbed him by the collar, shoving him to wake. This must be a prank. It wasn’t possible. I had just left him a few hours ago, he may have looked tired but he didn’t look like he would die anytime soon. “Beck, hurry, we have to take him to the hospital” I ordered but he just stood there. “Why are you just standing there” I screamed at him. Alfred walked towards me, Blood dripping from his left shoulder. He placed two fingers on my Grandfather’s wrist and then at his neck. Then he looked at me with sadness in his eyes, “he is dead” I shook my head refusing to believe him, none of them were doctors, how would they know when someone is dead. “He is not dead” I wiped the blood off his lips, grabbed his hand to carry him on my back. If they weren’t going to take him to hospital, then I will, I don’t care if I have to carry him. “He is not dead” I muttered. A strong set of hands grabbed me, pulling me away from him, I screamed to released but he just held me tighter, like a hug I never knew I needed. “Look at me” Alfred said, my back pressed against the wall, his face was the only thing I saw as his body covered the view of my Grandfather. “Look at me” he demanded. “No, he is not dead” I tell him as more tears stream from my eyes. “He is dead miss” he concurred. “He is dead?” I whispered and he nodded his head. Why should I believe him? why should I believe those set of blue eyes staring pitifully at me. But I did. He grabbed my head and pressed it against his sturdy chest, my tears drowning into his vintage shirt. His left hand circled around my waist hugging me tighter while he stroked my hair. I cried harder than I have ever done in my entire life. It’s hard not cry when you’ve lost your entire family. It’s noon of the next day, weekend to be precise. We arrived at the Gretes Mansion, smaller than our estate but big enough to see how powerful they were. We walked past five guards on our way in, until we finally got to the house. Mr Gretes was seated in the front, two of his sons were seared on the right while one of them stood behind, leaning on the wall. Gretes has five children, Three boys and two girls. Yet there wasn’t a sign of a female in the room except my presence. I found him seated high and mighty in his chair, a displeased look on his face, the moment he saw me. “Mr Gretes, it’s nice to finally meet you” I greeted, he just let out a grunt and gestured for me to sit. I could feel the disrespect but ignored it, when you are new to the world, you always have to prove yourself, and I definitely don’t mind that. I sat on the couch to my left while Alfred stood behind me, “What brings you to my home?” He asked tapping his half lit cigarette down the glass
I woke up expecting it to bright outside but it was still dark, I picked up my watch to see that it was past 9pm. I already knew how I winded up in bed after dozing off in the car, Alfred carried me. The smell of food filtered into my room, immediately my stomach began to grumble. I stepped out of my room and towards the kitchen where I found him. He had on grey sweatpants and a brown fitted top, clinging to his muscles. His arms bulged as he flipped over the frying pan, the fire from the gas flares. I know he had always looked good but this was a different kind of good, the kind that makes you want to strip him just to see what he has to offer. I leaned against the door watching him, my lips dry as I try to swallow what’s left of my tongue. I could feel the room getting hot, not just from the heat of his cooking but from… you know what I mean. Concentrate Liliac, I warned myself. “What are you making?” I picked an apple from the basket and threw my ass over the c
“You should watch the way you speak to me Mr Wyatt” I boldly faced him, I had enough of him acting like he was on top of me. For the sake of family I hadn’t thrown him out of the meeting but he keeps pushing for it. He wouldn’t even be considered as family if Grandfather was seated here today. “You must be crazy to think that I would let you do that, our family has a long tradition of donating for charity” he expelled my words to remind me of family. Family! “Our family, last I remember you were disowned, you no longer bear the family name. What right do you have to say our family?” I asked him. His mouth was sealed, he hadn’t expected me to air his personal matters in front of the board but since he chose to disrespect repeatedly, it was my duty to put him in his place. The meeting had turned into a full blown fight between me and my uncle, eyes widened at us. Neither of us wanted to submit to the other. I had every right because I was the heir and he claims to have
It was my first day at the office since I came back, I had been putting it off or days but it had finally caught up with me. I knew the perks of running a company, I have a Bsc in Business management but I still couldn’t shake off the nervousness I was feeling. I am a beautiful white gown that stops at my knee, I had combed my hair to the back while I stared at my reflection in the mirror. I stepped down the stairs until I got to the door, I found Alfred standing by the car. His eyes sparkled once he saw me, “You…look beautiful” he said. “Thank you” I replied. Since he hadn’t fully healed, I hired a driver that would be taking me to work until Alfred was okay, he may have insisted to drive me but I didn’t want to pressure him with that. We finally arrived at the office, it was just as big as the estate but with three more floors, the staffs had all gathered by the lobby to greet their new CEO. “Welcome ma’am” a woman in her mid thirties, wearing a brown shirt and black
Just when I thought I was about to die, my head was pushed down, so close that I almost hit the steering wheel, the bullet pierced through the glass and into the chair behind me. Then I heard a gunshot, a bullet straight through the man’s head, I raised my head fully to see Alfred standing beside me. Lord knows how happy I was to see him again, “You’re alive” I gasped. Beck crawled into the back seat and I pushed towards the seat on my right. “I thought I was dead too but they missed my heart by five inches” he smiled, I don’t know if that was meant to be a joke but with the way he smiled, I could tell he didn’t fear death as much as I do. I had the family doctor Robin waiting for us back at the house, we had lost most of our men at the shootout leaving the surviving ones injured. I stormed into my room pissed off once we got to the house, “How dare they do that at my Grandfather’s burial. This was why I pushed for a quiet event with barely any guest, to avoid this but
The world has turned into chaos, allies are rallying together, enemies springing up. The death of the most powerful man in Greece has shook the earth. There are more eyes on me, watching if I am worthy of the legacy my Grandfather created. I am standing in front of my Grandfather’s grave dressed in a black gown while Alfred stands beside me in a black suit, with an umbrella over my head. I could hardly see with the flashing lights over my face each time I lifted my head. This was supposed to be a peaceful burial but there was trouble all around. Speaking of trouble, A car drives recklessly into the scene bursting a water pipe. The water splashes on the guest as they move for safety. Wyatt steps out of the car in a black suit, a bottle of wine in his hand, Emily steps out in a red dress, an odd contrast to what was the occasion’s outfit. All to provoke me. Wyatt walks toward the grave, unscrews the cap of the wine and pours it on the coffin. “Rest in pieces old
