CASSANDRA'S POV~

I visited her every single day.

No matter how exhausted I was, no matter how chaotic everything around me had become… Stacy made it all pause. Her tiny frame had slowly begun to fill out again. The pale blue tint that once haunted her skin had given way to a soft, peachy glow. She was healing physically, at least. And every time I stepped through that hospital door, her eyes lit up like the sun had followed me in.

"You're late, Sister!" she would chirp, hands on her hips, pretending to pout before breaking into giggles that made my heart swell.

I couldn’t help it. I adored her. With every goofy face she made, every innocent joke she threw at me, she carved out a home inside my heart. I brought her favorite snacks, gummy bears and strawberry yogurt. Sometimes little picture books with fairies and castles, the kinds she liked to get lost in. And slowly, she began to get attached to me.

Today was no different. I walked into the ward with a soft smile, arms full of treat

CASSANDRA'S POV~My bones ached. It wasn’t the kind of ache that begged for a massage or a warm bath. No—this was deeper. Like they’d turned to stone inside me. My fingers trembled slightly as they clicked away at the keyboard.

  • The Mafia King's Only Love   Chapter 72

CASSANDRA'S POV~I sat there, fingers hovering over the microscope slide, meticulously studying the blood sample under the lens. Slowly, the humming of the machines around me began to fade, growing distant, like the world was retreating. And then, suddenly, my fingers froze. The image blurred, and a memory crashed into my mind, my breath hitched. I leaned back, chest tightening so shar

ADRIANO'S POV~The SUV skidded to a halt inside Edoardo’s estate garage, tires screeching against polished stone. I didn’t wait for the engine to fully die before the door swung open. One of my men stood at attention, not saying a word.I stepped out slowly, adjusting the cuffs of my shirt like I wasn’t about to rain hell on a family line. The moment my foot touched the marble floor, I heard it…muffled shouts, dragging footsteps, panicked scuffling. My men were already doing what needed to be done, hauling every last Gagliano bastard into the estate like the rats they were.Old money estate. Italian bones. Pride dripping from the fucking walls. Several vintage and limited-edition cars lined up in the garage like relics of a forgotten empire. Fitting. I was about to bury it all.I glanced sideways at Salvatore, who stood a few feet from me, eyes glued to his phone, typing something fast.“You got ‘em all inside?” I asked, my voice low, cold. No need to raise it. The silence always carr

CASSANDRA'S POV~Dario's blood was everywhere. On the sheets. On my gloves. On the front of my scrub top. On my trembling hands. But he was alive. His breathing was faint but steady now as I wrapped the last bandage around his ribs. His skin was pale, the lashes of his eyes fluttering lightly like he was dreaming. Poor thing was too weak to even speak. He'd slipped in and out of consciousness the entire time I worked on him, but now… now he was still. Asleep.I sat back on the little stool, pressing my fingers into my eyes until I saw stars. Every part of me ached—my back, my neck, my shoulders—and my head throbbed like a drum. My breath came out in a long, tired sigh as I slowly peeled the gloves off and tossed them into the bin.I stood, stretching the stiffness from my bones, and stepped quietly out of the ward, pulling the door shut behind me.And nearly collided into Adriano. He was leaning against the opposite wall, arms folded, expression unreadable. But those impossibly dark e

CASSANDRA'S POV~The ropes slipped. At first, I thought I was imagining it, maybe just another cruel tease from my desperate mind. But when I twisted my wrist again and the fibers gave way with a dry snap, I froze.Holy shit.I didn't wait. I struggled with what little strength I had, biting down hard as the rope burned my skin one last time before it finally tore free. It fell away, and I launched forward on weak, shaky legs.My knees nearly buckled under me.“Dario!” I gasped, dragging myself to his side where he lay half-conscious, groaning. His shirt was soaked… soaked… in blood. His hand was clamped tightly against the wound on his side, but it was useless. The blood wouldn’t stop.I dropped to my knees beside him, my hands trembling so badly I couldn’t even apply pressure properly. “Shit! Dario… hey, hey, look at me, stay with me, okay?” My voice cracked. I didn’t recognize how panicked I sounded. He turned his head slightly, his lips stained with red. “Y-You’re… free,” he raspe

  • The Mafia King's Only Love   Chapter 68

ADRIANO'S POV~I woke up choking on dread. It sat like a brick in my chest, pressing down so hard I could barely breathe. I didn’t know why, but something felt off. Wrong. My instincts had never failed me before, and I sure as fuck wasn’t about to ignore them now.Without thinking, I reached for the Glock under my pillow, and slipped it into the waistband of my pants. I pushed off the bed, bare feet padding silently across the marble floor. The closer I got to her room, the tighter my chest grew. My fingers curled. My jaw clenched. When I reached her door and twisted the handle… it was locked. My jaw clenched.I didn’t knock. I didn’t call out her name. I turned to the butler who had the misfortune of crossing my path.“The key. Now.” I snarled. He paled, fumbling with the spare lockpad before placing it in my palm with shaking hands. I slid it in, heard the click, and opened the door slowly. What greeted me stopped the beat of my cursed heart. There she was.Cassandra was asleep. S
