Greco chuckled over the phone and then gave another sigh. "I'll update you later then."

"Alright." Juan cut the call and set his phone down, walking towards the bathroom. He opened the door without warning, earning a yelp from Arya who was covered in soap surds.

"How long does it take you to take a shower?" He asked with a raise of his brows, casually taking off his shirt. "I was starting to think you were using the tub instead."

"Um... I'm still... Washing up," she said in a shaky voice, using her hands to cover her body as much as she could. Now, she wished she had taken a bath in the tub so she could use the water to cover herself up.

"I can see that," he responded, pulling his trousers down.

"What are you doing?" She asked, panic suddenly washing over her.

"Coming to take a shower," he commented as if that was the most natural thing to happen in the world.

"You have your own room," she said in a weak voice.

"I'm aware of that." He has pulled his underwear, making Arya to swal

Carlo and Domingo were next to the storage shed with the wood cart drawn out into the open area. The wheels creaked when Carlo pushed it a small step forward, checking if it would suffice."It feels too empty," Carlo remarked, nodding toward the cart. "If we take it out like this, they will catch us before we reach halfway down the road."Domingo dumped a small crate of apples into it. "So we add provisions. Who examines merchants with food?"Carlo frowned, leaning on the handle. "Merchants do not stock up on just apples. We need cloth, tools, something that is sensible.""Then go and get it," said Domingo, wiping his hands on his trousers. "You are the one who has all the ideas."Carlo muttered under his breath but we! t back into the shed. When he came out, he was carrying a roll of heavy-looking fabric bound up. He threw it in with the apples and stepped back to examine. Ok"Better," he said. "Still doesn't look heavy enough though."Domingo walked back and forth beside the cart, s

Juan woke up early, the light coming through the window cutting across his bedroom. He awakened gradually and ran his hand over his face before getting dressed, putting on his shirt and his coat. He crept out of the bedroom quietly not to wake Arya, then headed directly to his study. His computer on his desk came to life with a soft light when he opened it, and he scrolled through the fresh emails until his eyes crossed the one he had been expecting. It was from the chief of security, and attached was a report of his best men and what they had been up to. He read it line by line, jotting down the points. There was nothing out of the ordinary and nothing that made him doubt. These were men that he could call without hesitation and he had tested that they were trustworthy enough to go on the mission. He leaned back in his chair for a moment, then picked up the phone on the desk. He made a short call, and within minutes the sounds of footsteps could be heard in the hallway. The door was

"Are you sure?" She asked. Her breath was warm against his cheek, her body shifting slightly beneath him as if she couldn’t decide whether to draw him closer or push him back.He kissed her again and pushed her gently onto the bed, hovering above her. His hand slid along her side, fingers tracing her skin without hurry, but even in the middle of it, his thoughts wouldn’t leave Hernandez. The man’s voice kept echoing in his head, the way he’d spoken Giuseppe’s name like it was the end of the story. It wasn’t.Juan knew better.Arya pulled back, brushing her lips against his before speaking. “You’re distracted,” she whispered, her eyes narrowing slightly.“I’m here,” he said, kissing the corner of her mouth. He ran his hand down her thigh, then back up again, but she caught his wrist before he could move higher.“No,” she said. “You’re not. You’re thinking about him.”Juan leaned back a little, looking down at her, his breath uneven. “Maybe I am,” he admitted. He shifted off her slightl

He exhaled. He hated that Hernandez had managed to plant even a seed. Hated that after all the proof, all the lies, a single question still lingered.Juan closed his hand around the recorder, slipping it back into his pocket. Then he started the engine and drove off into the night, the sound of Hernandez’s last words following him.Juan narrowed his eyes as he remembered that Hernandez circled back to Giuseppe each time. It was almost too much, like a man clinging to a single excuse, hoping repetition would make it believable. If Hernandez thought he could distract him with one name, he was underestimating him badly. In Juan’s mind, the pattern was clear. Hernandez kept mentioning Giuseppe because he was still hiding something. He didn’t know Juan already knew about the Meridian Circle, and that was his mistake. To Hernandez, this was still a game about rivalries and betrayal between men. But Juan saw through it. Hernandez wasn’t truly working for Giuseppe, rather he was working with

“Hm,” Juan laughed. “In your words, you’re playing them, to benefit me?”“Not in my words,” Hernandez hissed. “That’s exactly what I’m doing.”“And what have they promised you?” Juan asked. He leaned back in the chair, watching him closely.Hernandez’s jaw moved as if he wanted to answer but he didn't. His eyes just shifted, flicking to the floor and then back.Juan almost smiled as he saw Hernandez pause. Men who had nothing to hide didn't have to think much before they answered any question.“They promised nothing,” Hernandez said finally. “Nothing worth more than what I already had here. I only strung them along. That was the plan. That’s still the plan.”“You’re saying Arya lied, the recording lied, and even your silence just now lied,” Juan said. He drummed his fingers on the chair. “Seems a lot of lying for a man who claims loyalty.”Hernandez’s nostrils flared. “Context matters. A man can say anything in the moment to keep the enemy close.”Context, Juan thought. Hernandez had

Juan sighed and pushed back from his desk, sliding the chair into place with slow movements. Papers were spread across the table, but he didn’t bother to gather them, leaving the mess behind as he stood. The study smelled faintly of stale smoke and old coffee, a mix he had grown used to. He checked his watch, then turned off the lamp, letting the room fall into shadow before opening the door. His shoes echoed softly on the tiled floor as he crossed the hall. The house was quiet at that hour as he moved down the steps and out into the open night. The car waited in the driveway, its black paint catching the dim light from the porch. He unlocked it, slid inside, and started the engine and then ge steered through the long driveway, passing the trimmed hedges and high fences of the estate. The gates opened as he approached, and he drove through without slowing much, his eyes fixed ahead. The road to the holding building was short, lined with trees on both sides. He parked close to the entr
