Caelian leaned against the doorway, arms crossed, looking way too entertained for someone who had just eavesdropped on a very personal conversation.
Why does he always sneak up like that?
He pushed off the frame, walking toward us. “I have to say, I never thought I’d see the day someone tried to outmaneuver Nico Baldocchi in a game of control.” His gaze flicked to me, considering. “But it might just work.”
Teresa’s eyes narrowed. “Who the fuck are you?”
“Caelian Rizza. Nico’s right hand,” Caelian’s lips twitched in amusement as he inclined his head slightly “Apologies for overhearing, but your conversation was…hard to ignore.”
“Well, enjoyed the show, did you?” Teresa huffed, crossing her arms.
“Immensely,” Caelian smirked.
“Great. Another smug bastard,” she rolled her eyes.
“I am sorry…I do not want to intervene,” he muttered, turning to me and ignoring Teresa’s comment. “But as Nico’s best friend…I do feel this plan can work.”
“And why would you think that?” I asked, raising a brow.
“Because I have seen it—Nico is different with you,” Caelian exhaled, shaking his head. “He’s always kept himself closed off. Even when he slept with other women, it was just that—sex. But with you, Gianna… It’s different. I’ve seen it. He cares, even if he won’t admit it. Maybe he doesn’t know it himself, and you…you need to show him that. You need to show him what you can see, but he can’t. Because he is too blinded by self-loathing and hatred for himself. He thinks you’re too good, too pure for someone like him which is just plain bullshit.”
“Exactly,” Teresa nodded. “If he didn’t want you, he wouldn’t act like a possessive asshole about the whole Maximus thing. He might pretend love is off the table, but who knows? Men don’t act all possessive for just any woman.”
“You seem to know a lot about men,” Caelian remarked, raising a brow.
Teresa turned to him, eyes darkening with something wicked. “I do.” She leaned in, voice dropping. “Want me to show you what I know… Caelian, is it?” Caelian arched a brow, his mouth curving into a slow grin.
“Tempting,” he murmured, eyes locked on hers. “But I don’t play games I can’t win.”
Teresa’s smile widened. “Who said you’d lose?”
“Are you two seriously doing this right now?” I groaned, rubbing my temples. “Turning my personal crisis into foreplay?”
“Sorry,” Teresa shook her head. “But as I said…this is the only way to get to Nico because he isn’t going to let you in if you try to force him or try talking your way into his heart.”
“Yeah, he doesn’t know how to have a conversation that isn’t about business anyway,” Caelian agreed. “When you spend years closing yourself off from everyone and everything, that’s what happens.”
“And you guys think this will work?” I demanded, not at all convinced. This was stupid. How in hell would I make Nico believe I didn’t need him to love me after going on and on about how I wanted his heart and not just his body?
And how in fuck’s name was I going to seduce him?
“Well, you need to try since you aren’t willing to give up on him,” Teresa made a face. “At least it’s better than sitting and waiting for his ice-cold heart to melt.”
“Nico isn’t the kind of man you push,” Caelian added. “If you try to force him to talk about what he feels, he’ll shut down. But if you change the dynamic—if you stop asking him to let you in and make him want to let you in—that’s when everything changes.”
“Exactly,” Teresa nodded. “This isn’t about tricking him, Gi. It’s about meeting him where he is. Right now, you’re asking for something he doesn’t know how to give. So take the pressure off him. Let him relax a bit because this love bomb you hit him with…it’s too much for him. Make him believe you don’t need more from him other than what he can give. Nico needs to learn to walk before he can run, and right now he can barely crawl.”
“And what if it doesn’t? What if he never lets me in?” I whispered, my chest tightening with dread. “And this never becomes anything more than just sex?”
“Then at least you’ll have your answer,” Caelian said softly.
“And you’ll walk away with some mind-blowing sex to brag about,” Teresa added with a devilish grin. “Believe us, this plan will work.”
I sighed and slowly nodded, rubbing my face. If I did this, it wasn’t about playing games. It was about breaking through the walls Nico had spent his life building. Getting under his skin. Making him feel something he wasn’t ready for.
But once I started down this path—
There was no turning back.
“Fine, I’ll try,” I muttered. “But for how long?”
“Give him six months,” Caelian said softly. “And take it one step at a time.”
“I have a question though,” I said, narrowing my eyes at Caelian. “Why are you helping us? What do you want?”
“I want my best friend to be happy and I know you can make him happy,” Caelian said. “And…maybe her number as a favor for putting in my feedback?” His eyes followed my best friend and the look they exchanged—I’d rather they have had sex in front of me.
“I don’t give my number to strangers,” Tess quipped, licking her lips. Caelian’s gaze flicked over her, sharp and unreadable. Then, with a slow tilt of his head, he murmured, “Give it time, cara. You won’t feel like a stranger for long.”
Teresa’s smirk faltered for half a second, a faint flush creeping up her neck. She covered it quickly, tilting her chin up in defiance, but the spark in her eyes betrayed her.
“Cocky bastard,” she muttered, looking away.
Caelian chuckled, low and knowing. “Blushing already, bella?”
“Oh for fuck’s sake,” I grimaced. “I will give you her number. Thanks for your feedback, Caelian. Now, why were you here in the middle of the day, again?”
“Right—I needed some stuff from the armo…” he trailed off and shrugged. “I will get going then,”
“Uh…is Nico going to be home tonight?” I asked. “He seemed a bit distracted at breakfast.”
“He might be late…or not come home at all. Something urgent came up,” he muttered, and I didn’t like the look on his face.
“Right.” I nodded. It was a good thing Amara invited me to dinner. I could spend the night with my nephews then.
“Alright, ladies…” he waved. “See you later,” I waved back, and with a nod, Caelian started to head out. But he stopped beside Teresa and muttered something in her ear that made her blush and her eyes darken with lust.
“You better make it worth the risk,” she whispered, earning a panty-dropping grin from Caelian before he walked out. I noticed her eyes following him before turning to me, her face red.
“That’s one tasty dish,” she bit her lip.
“One that you’re going to eat…” I smirked before we both burst out laughing.
NicoDomani got it bad. I grimaced at all the blood pooling through his black T-shirt and the beads of sweat trickling down his forehead. His face was red too, jaw clenching as Caelian pressed his jacket into the wound harder.“What the fuck were you thinking?” I hissed, glaring at him.“There was no other choice…he would…have escaped,” he croaked before coughing out a mouthful of blood.“Leo and I were there,” I snapped.“You were out…numbered…argh..” he groaned in pain again, his eyes red. I pinched the bridge of my nose, trying to keep my calm.Domani was right—we were outnumbered. Leo and I couldn’t take on the men stashed in those damn containers alone. We held our ground, nearly lost the target, the guy who was barking orders, until Domani stepped in. He took two bull
Gianna AmmassariThe evening felt like a dream. As I stepped out of the sleek black car, I caught my reflection in the glass doors and blushed at the sight. My emerald green Valentino dress hugged me in all the right places, making me feel like I belonged beside Nico Baldocchi—the leader of one of Sicily’s most powerful mafia families and soon to be my husband.Nico stepped out behind me, and the sight of him stole my breath. He was dressed in a sharp black suit that fit him perfectly, accentuating his tall, broad frame. Every inch of him reflected the power and dominance he held as the man who commanded one of the most feared mafia families in Italy. But it was his eyes that captivated me the most. Dark, intense, and always so unreadable, holding so many secrets.“Gianna,” he said, holding out his hand, his voice smooth and commanding, sending a shiver down my spine.I took his arm, my fingers lightly brushing again
Gianna2 years laterI stood in front of the full-length mirror, not quite recognizing the woman who stared back. My eyes felt tired, and my entire face showed telltale signs of exhaustion. My jaw ached from smiling so much throughout the day. Just a few hours ago, I married the man of my dreams—Nicholas Baldocchi. The wedding was like a fairytale, or so everyone thought. My brothers, Leonardo and Xavier, hired the best wedding planners in the country, shelling out millions of dollars to make sure today was perfect. A vineyard in Tuscany, a Monique Lhuillier dress that fit like it was stitched from starlight, and a guest list boasting Italy’s most powerful. But for all its perfection, this marriage was anything but.The reality of our marriage crashes over me like a wrecking ball every time it crosses my mind. My only peace lies in remembering how crucial this union was for both our families. Besides, despite everyth
Nico“The jet is ready, capo,” I rubbed my face, fighting the exhaustion that threatened to get the best of me, and turned my eyes to Caelian, his expression impassive as always.Caelian Rizza was my underboss—my right-hand man and the only person I could truly call a friend. I trusted him implicitly. Despite his rugged, bad-boy exterior, he was a very grounded man. Like me, life had put him through the wringer. The only difference was that he emerged into the light, while I chose the darkness.“Good,” I nodded. “We will be ready to leave in fifteen. Any news yet?” Caelian’s expression turned somber as he gave me a small nod. But before he could speak, the door opened and Domani, my advisor, and my next most trusted man after Caelian walked in, his expression dark.“Morning capo,” he murmured, giving me a bow of his head.“Any news?” I repeated, my eyes flitting between the two.“The stolen shipment was tracked,” Ca
GiannaI hated how my body softened when Nico placed his hand on my back, his fingers gripping me firmly. After last night, anyone with a shred of self-respect wouldn't even look at him. Hell, the sting of rejection still echoed in my mind. All Nico saw in me was someone he could fuck without a problem but not someone worthy enough of his love. I should go and drown myself in the Mediterranean for having such a weak sense of self-worth. But it was like where Nico was concerned, everything just went straight out of the window. My body reacted to his touch on its own, and I had no control over it. It was pathetic.“What’s wrong?” Nico’s deep voice distracted me from my train of thought.“Huh?” I frowned.“You just sighed so deeply. Are you feeling okay?” I was surprised he noticed something so small. The genuine concern in his voice brought a faint smile to my lips.“No, nothing,” I shook my head. “I just feel a bit tired, that's all. Let’s go. We shouldn’t keep your staff waiting.” Nic
Gianna “Yes, Daria…yes, I will be there. No, no change in schedule…yes, that will be all,” I watched Nico from beneath my lashes as he cut the call, his jaw tensed. He seemed agitated and restless for some reason. I have been watching him shuffle between a million calls all through the way. Something was wrong. Earlier this morning, I heard his conversation with Caelian—“This is the third shipment that was destroyed. And your excuse is that you are looking into this?” I couldn’t understand any of it, but whatever it was, it didn’t sound good.“Is everything okay?” I asked once he cut the call. We landed a few moments ago, Nico barely saying a word to me throughout the flight, other than asking me to eat something.“Yes, just work,” he muttered, fidgeting with his cell phone. “Nothing for you to worry about.”I pursed my lips, wanting to argue that whatever concerned him concerned me too. I was his wife now. But I didn’t want to enforce that part constantly just so he could open up t
NicoGianna was playing with fire and she was going to get burned.“I will destroy you if you allow me to get closer, Gianna,” I warned and I meant every word. But somehow my gorgeous wife didn’t seem to be in the mood to listen. There was a determined glint in her eyes when she stepped closer and kissed me. It was brief, just a soft brush of her lips but it evoked something inside me that suddenly wanted more. More of that sweet, warm taste of her.I was never a man driven by physical desires. Never. Control was always my greatest strength, something I prided myself on. But even the most controlled man has his needs. And Gianna, well, she wasn’t exactly helping. Her soft, feminine innocence stirred something dark within me. The way she looked up at me, so shy and submissive, ignited thoughts I shouldn’t entertain. But this was Gianna…I kept reminding myself that every time she was close. She deserved better than just wild sex.I’d rather jerk off in the shower than use her body to sa
GiannaNico wasn’t coming to dinner.I don’t know why I wasn’t surprised when he dropped me a text letting me know that some urgent work had come up and he wouldn’t be able to make it. The way he ran out this afternoon, that kind of made his absence pretty clear. His urgent work was to avoid me for as long as possible. And I was glad about that because I didn’t want to face him either, not after the way he abandoned me.“This was Nico when he was two,” Vittoria smiled fondly. I peered at the grainy photograph of the little boy holding a toy car, looking glum and bored.“He looks adorable,” I smiled. “Though he doesn’t look a very happy kid.”“He wasn’t,” Vittoria answered, shutting the photo album and taking a long sip of her wine. After she and I had dinner, Vittoria asked if I would like to see photographs from Nico’s childhood. She seemed so excited at the prospect that I couldn’t say no even if all I wanted was to go to bed. I guess I wanted to make up for her son’s absence.“Nico

Gianna“Don’t worry, you did great, and your ideas are amazing,” Teresa reassured me, her eyes scanning through my portfolio. “Seriously, you’ve got some incredible concepts here.” I pushed my plate of food around absentmindedly and shrugged.“It doesn’t matter how great they are if the funding committee at Bellavanti doesn’t like them,” I muttered, my gaze flickering to my phone for what felt like the hundredth time.I knew it was too early to expect a response from Maximus, but the anxiety was starting to take hold. This was a massive opportunity, and I wanted it so badly. I could have Leo talk to Maximus, but that didn’t feel right. Plus, as Maximus said, the decision rested with the committee.“They’ll love it. I’m sure of it,” Teresa said confidently. “And damn his place looks amazing. You really hit the jackpot with Nicholas, huh?”I blinked at her, unsure how to respond. She was visiting me for lunch, and then we’d go over some business before I headed to Amara’s for dinner. Ni

NicoGianna was doing squats using weights, and because I was standing behind her I got the honor to enjoy a first class view of her fine ass. She wore those sexy tight gym pants and sports bra and my cock threatened to jump to attention every time she did a squat and then came up. I couldn’t stop myself from imagining how it would feel if she moved up and down my cock like that. Would that feel just as good as she felt last night?“Fuck,” Gianna hissed and I noticed her posture was wrong. She can get a sprain that way. I pushed the door open fully and stepped inside, and amidst the music and her struggle, she didn’t hear me.“Your posture is wrong,” I murmured, my voice low as I came up behind her. Gianna stiffened but didn’t stop.“I don’t need your help,” she muttered, her tone sharp. Of course, she was still mad at me. And rightfully so.Ignoring her protest, I slid my hands around her bare waist, feeling the warmth of her skin under my palms. She sucked in a sharp breath, but I d
Nico“Leonardo and Xavier have left,” Caelian muttered.I stood by the pool, watching the soft spring wind make ripples on its clean surface and nodded. We were at one of my farmhouses on the outskirts of the city. Leo and Xavier had come over to discuss matters about last night. And to plan our strategy for tomorrow.Another shipment of mine is expected to move, and this was the cue we were waiting for. Tomorrow, we'll grab those bastards by hook or by crook. We have to. From damaging our shipments to attacking me right in public out of nowhere was concerning. There weren’t many people I could think of who would dare take on the Baldocchi like that. And Gianna’s safety was at risk…that was bugging me the most. Not only could she have been severely injured, but we have no leads either. I have never felt so helpless and cornered ever before. But that changes tomorrow. I can’t rest until I have one of them locked up and beaten half to death in my torture room. Gianna I can’t believe this was happening. Did I hear him right?“What happened between us…Nico?” I asked, trying to sound steady because I refuse to let his words break me. Nico closed his eyes, as if gathering his patience or strengthening the walls around his heart.“It was a mistake…it shouldn’t have happened,” he said, his voice hard.“And why is that a mistake?” I demanded. “You made love to your wife…the woman you married and took the vows to spend the rest of your life with…what exactly is a mistake in that?”Nico’s eyes darkened, rage brimming in them. But I knew it wasn’t directed at me. For whatever possible reason, he was angry at himself. I blinked, holding my ground as he stepped towards me, his jaw clenched, his whole stance like that of a
Gianna “Nicholas! Gianna!”I jolted awake at the booming voice, my heart hammering against my ribs. Blinking against the harsh sunlight that poured through the gap in the curtains, I groaned. My head was still groggy, my limbs heavy with exhaustion.“Nico! Gianna!”A man’s voice. Familiar. Why did it sound so—Beside me, Nico lay sprawled on his stomach, one arm thrown over his head, his breathing deep and steady. My gaze drifted over the intricate ink that stretched across his back, the bold, dark tattoos covering the sculpted muscles. And then I saw them.My nail prints.Oh, fuck.My face burned as last night came rushing back, the memories slamming into me all at once. My b
Song: Not Afraid Anymore (Halsey) GiannaWhen I opened my eyes, there was no roaring sound of gunshots going on or tires screeching. It was all peacefully silent. Was I dreaming? I turned my head, and the throbbing pain in my temples and my entire body in general screamed that I wasn’t. It all happened. The chase…the firing…the attack…Nico firing…wait—Nico.I sat up on my bed and looked around. I was all alone.Where was Nico?Panic rushed through me with such a fury that I almost felt nauseous. I remember Caelian taking me away. But Nico…he was still there. My stomach was in knots. But before I could do anything about it, I heard something.Voices. Downstairs. My heart lurched.I didn’t think—I just moved, pushing off the bed, my legs unsteady as I rushed out of the room. My head still ached from where I’d hit it, my body sluggish from exhaustion, but none of it mattered. I gripped the stair railing as I hurried down, my breath coming short, panic curling inside me like a vice. Th
