Rai’s POV

Axel Morozov, my second in command, caught up to me as I walked to my room.

“Boss… what do we do with her? We have never brought a woman to Podolskaya, let alone allowed her in the house,” he said, walking side by side with me, matching my fast steps.

“I know, Axel… I know,” I said nonchalantly.

“Why, Boss… why did you…”

“Questioning my orders now, Morozov?” My tone changed, irritated.

He cleared his throat. “No, Boss… I’m just…”

“Worried?” I gave a deep chuckle. “No spawn of mine should have that. She’s harmless and stupid. If she tries to be smart, I won’t waste a second blowing off her head.”

Axel seemed a bit relieved after I said that. “I want her in the mansion from tomorrow… I’ll decide how useful she’d be later… maybe the kitchen,” I said, slamming my door as I entered my room. I heard a “Yes, Boss” from outside.

I poured myself a glass of whiskey, then proceeded to drink from the bottle as I closed my eyes, relaxing.

Reina fucking Gazem.

I didn’t know what it was that made me pick her that night. A fucking woman. Something I had never done in my entire life. It was because she couldn’t speak.

Her fear, her weakness. She was a lab rat waiting for an experiment. The way her olive eyes widened anytime she wanted to speak like she had forgotten she couldn’t… the way her hands trembled when I faced her… the way her lips twitched when I watched her throat move… It was thrilling. Exciting. And I wanted to press on it.

I thrive on weakness, and when I set my eyes on the girl, my body reacted. At her fear, her weakness, her innocence, her situation. I wanted to ruin her. I wanted to own her fear, and I already knew how. Hell, I knew I already did. I am Rai Mikailov of Podolskaya… a serpent. Having people fear me was my specialty. That’s who I am.

It had been a long time since I had something exciting that wasn’t spilling blood, and I intended to devour it. The only way I could do that was by keeping her near. I thought of her neck, Fragile. Easy to snap. But where’s the fun in that? I wanted to break her, piece by piece, Until there was nothing left.

I took another swig of whiskey, feeling the burn in my throat. My mind wandered back to the night I took her. The fear in her eyes. The desperation. It was intoxicating. I wanted more. I wanted to see that fear every day, to taste it, to bathe in it.

The sound of my phone ringing broke my trance. I picked it up, my voice low and menacing.

“Speak”

The voice on the other end was hesitant, but I listened intently.

“Good. I want him brought to the house tomorrow. Keep watching him. I want to know who he meets, everyone he speaks to.”

I hung up, my mind drifting back to my new property.

Reina Gazem was going to be a fun toy.

And I would break her.

Reina’s POVAfter what felt like a few hours, the door opened. Corinne walked in, looking disturbed. I rubbed my eyes, climbing out of the bed.I quickly grabbed the paper and pen she had dropped on my table before she left and wrote…What happened?“I’m so sorry, Reina, but the Don wants you to serve dinner.”What?“Don’t worry… just go out, serve him. Don’t look at him… okay?” she said, worry clear on her face.I shook my head, saying no. I couldn’t face him, I couldn’t dare to stand in his presence without my legs getting weak and my heart beating fast. At the mere mention of his name, he already had that effect on me.“Go on, dear, we are left with no choice,” she told me, straightening my clothes and nudging me forward with a small smile.I walked slowly out, clenching my hands.I got to the kitchen and was immediately given food to serve. I held onto it tightly and made my way to the dining area.I felt his presence before I saw him.And when I did, I swallowed.Don’t look at hi

Reina’s POVCorinne led me to my new room in the maid’s quarters.“You’d stay here from now. I hope you like it.”I looked around. It was basic. A bed and a table. I nodded. My eyes were already heavy from crying.“Dear child… What's your name?” she said, holding my face gently.I gestured it to her, using ASL.“I’m sorry, my child… I never learnt,” she said softly. I sighed.“But you write, don’t you?”I slowly nodded as she brought out a pen and paper from her pocket.I took it and wrote my name down.“Reina… it’s a beautiful name. Maybe you could teach me ASL.”I smiled softly, nodding.“I have to go now. You stay here and rest.”I suddenly shook my head in fear.“No, Reina… he won’t hurt you if you stay here. You just came here, he’d have no issues.”Rai Mikailov didn’t look like one without issues.“Just rest here, okay? Shower and change your clothes. I’d call you if you need to do anything.”The way she spoke to me made me calm. If my mother was still alive, she would have been

Reina’s POVThe sudden noise of the door woke me up as it banged open. I sprang up in fear, trying to remember where I was till it all came rushing back.I was in the Podolskaya territory. Mikailov’s new property. I winced at the thought as two armed men gestured for me to step forward. When I did, they both dragged me.“Walk,” one of them said, leading me to wherever it was they were taking me.We walked for about seven minutes till we reached what seemed like another side of the mansion. It was like there were two mansions inside the fortress. We entered the living room, which seemed as big as my whole house back then. We continued walking till we got to the kitchen. They suddenly stopped, leaving me there immediately without a word or a glance. My eyes scanned around. There were a number of maids. Was I assigned to the kitchen? They all turned to look at me. Most of their faces were curious and pitiful. “Hey there… my name is Corinne,” an older woman with an apron came to me, smil

Reina’s POVThis was no longer the hospital. It was no longer the betrayal. This was something worse.“Hey! Hey! Wake up!” a voice called from the deep slumber I was in.It was a dream… It was all a dream. I chanted in my head repeatedly, slowly opening my eyes, feeling very drowsy. Where was I? I should be in my room, practicing but… I was…“Snap out of it!” the voice said, and I turned toward the direction.A young girl my age was in front of me, looking at me with worry.“Finally! You need to get a hold of yourself now. There's no time to slack or you’ll be dealt with.”I tried to refresh my memory, looking around the container that seemed to be moving, the one we were sitting in.It wasn’t a dream. I couldn’t speak, and then I was given something in the hospital.I looked around, frightened, trying to figure out where we were.“There’s no need for that… We are about to get sold.”Sold.I was about to get sold.I stared at her. It wasn’t even a question. I cursed that I couldn’t sp

  • The Mafia’s Mute Bride   Chapter 3

Grace’s POVI straightened my dress, walking toward my husband’s hospital room. Before I opened the door, I took out my eye drops, putting in a little more than usual so it would look like I was crying.I was used to this. I had done this for twenty years. It was a little too easy now.I stepped in, sniffing, getting into character. The police officers were there for statements. The doctors were there as well.“Mrs. Grace…” one of the police officers called.“She… she ran away,” I whispered, tears falling. My eyes went to Daniel on the hospital bed. His legs were numb, but he was awake, and he heard me.That was what I planned. His round eyes widened even more as the heart monitor started beeping faster. The police rushed off to look for her, but I had already taken care of that. She would be far gone now after I sold her as property for five hundred dollars. I didn’t care where she would end up or if she would be dead. She was gone and that was what mattered.I went to Daniel’s side
