My eyelids were just as heavy as my body as I tried opening them, the pain had subsided but I still felt like I was run over by a truck.
My eyes fluttered open and the bright light made me shut my eyes quickly. I groaned as I felt the smooth surface on my face, I opened my eyes again and this time I noticed I was in a bed.
It seemed like a hospital bed but I wasn't sure, I focused my vision adjusting to the light then I turned to the other side of the room.
The tiny room was empty and the bed was the only thing here. I realized I could move now so I sat up checking to see that my clothes were still intact.
My stepdad and my mother sold me to these people, my jaw clenched as I remembered the smug smile on Edward's face and my mother's cold gaze as she led me to his office.
She gave me up without caring if I was going to be killed.
But there is no time to think about that now I need to find a way to get out of here or find a way to call the police.
There was a door with no one in sight, and a thought popped up in my head. I could use this opportunity to run.
The moment I moved a grip on my hand held me back then I noticed my right hand was handcuffed to the bed.
Bastards.
I looked around and found a camera on the other side of the room, the door opened and a woman walked in.
Dressed in a tight mini skirt and skimpy crop top, her face was painted with heavy makeup and her red lips curled in a disgusted sneer as she came closer.
Before I could blink her palm landed on my face the resounding slap echoed inside my head.
"Next time remember to wake up on time, the other girls are ready and you are the last to wake up, if you are this lazy how will you satisfy the buyers?" She glared and my lips parted but I couldn't find the words to say.
The door opened and two hefty men walked in. One was holding a gun and the other was with a bag. I gulped as I noticed the woman was unlocking my handcuffs.
I thought of sprinting past the men but I knew better than to go through with it, I'm not a runner and I'm sure they won't hesitate to hold me down or worse shoot me.
My heart raced as she threw the bag at me, "Get up and get rid of that rubbish you are wearing" She ordered and I swallowed a hard lump in my throat, despite the fact that I was shaking in fear I still found myself opposing.
"I'm sorry but can I get some privacy? I can't strip in front of them" I pointed out and she raised an eyebrow.
"What nonsense are you spewing? Do you want me to tell them to help you take it off instead? I'm sure they won't waste my time like you are now" She snapped her finger and the one without the gun started walking closer.
"Stop!" I yelled in panic.
"Then start dressing now!" The woman barked at me and I flinched, my hands moved on their own accord towards the rim of my dress pulling it over my head and I was left with my bra and panties.
Conscious of the eyes on me I quickly took out the dress in the bag, my jaw dropped at the piece of material that resembled a bikini.
"Ma I can't-"
"It's Madeline, and don't even think about requesting that the dress is not good enough, that dress is more expensive than the others are wearing so you better be grateful" She snapped.
The word 'grateful' reminded me of my stepfather, and I shook my head.
"I can't wear it, it's too revealing," I said and the men started laughing while Madeline's face turned red.
"Do you not understand what I just said? Get. Dressed. Now." She emphasized but I ignored her standing my ground.
"Get me the horsewhip" She ordered and my eyes almost fell out of their socket.
I started dressing up instantly and she stopped the man from leaving. I wore a blue dress that was barely covering my ass and the front exposed my chest leaving a piece of material on my nipples.
I put on the high heels wobbling as I stood up straight, I might as well fall and break my neck in these heels.
Then I wore the ridiculous blue hair band with bunny ears.
She nodded, staring at me.
"We already put you on birth control, are you a virgin?" She asked and I shyly nodded.
"Even better, you will earn us a lot of money" She smiled and took my hand leading me out of the room while the guys walked behind us.
I struggled to walk with the heels and I was certain I would sprain my ankle before we got to whenever she was taking me.
"Ma'am I-"
"It's Madeline, we are business partners now honey, no need to be so uptight" She interrupted.
"I was wondering if I could change these heels" I requested and she shook her head.
"You are not the only girl here wearing that, don't worry you'll be fine" She dismissed and I nodded keeping my mouth shut before I provoke her.
I need to be smart about this if I want to get out of this place, loud music was coming from where we were walking and my heart raced as we got closer.
"I want you on your best behavior, stay in line and don't cause any trouble" She ordered and we walked into a room.
My eyes widened at the number of girls in the room, they were more than fifteen and they were dressed just like me.
A girl was sobbing at the other end of the corner and the others ignored her, Madeline glared at the girl before facing the rest.
"Alright girls, the auction starts in ten minutes, be prepared and get your shit together," She said, shifting her gaze to the sobbing girl at the last words.
I would be lying if I say I wasn't freaking out, my parents sold me to that man and he brought me to what looks like a brothel.
She let go of me and gestured for me to go and I walked towards the end of the line, some girls were glaring at me as I walked to the end and I ignored them.
The girl sobbing was the one in front of me and I don't know why I felt pity for her even though we are in the same situation.
Madeline left and four men walked into the room, two were the ones with Madeline while the other two were new faces.
"You come with me" One of them pointed at the sobbing girl and she shook her head, the man snarled as he stalked towards her and dragged her arm.
"No! Leave me alone" She screamed but he ignored her protest, the others picked some girls and took them away.
"They don't touch the virgins, so I'm guessing you are one," A female voice said beside me and I diverted my attention to my right.
A tall pretty brunette with green eyes stared back at me, "How do you know that?" I asked.
"Because you are too beautiful and those horny assholes would have been fighting to share you instead of taking the others. I'm Amaree,” She introduced.
"I'm Mia. Do you know where we are?" I asked and she nodded.
"I was sold by my brother, to Madeline. It's an auction, they sell us to the highest bidder," She explained.
"You mean they sell us to other people? What are we supposed to do if we are sold?" I questioned again.
"Are you that dumb or you are just pretending, we are sold as sex slaves, those girls at the front are sex workers here but they get to be auctioned when fresh girls are brought in. The virgins are the most expensive and valuable, if you are one then you are lucky, and your master will be filthy rich. Unlike me, I will be sold for five hundred dollars" She replied and my eyes widened.
Five hundred?
For a beautiful human girl?!
"What- how is that even possible? I don't want to be here, I don't want to be sold" I rasped my heart skipping as I thought of belonging to someone.
"I'm scarred, I was eleven when my brother used a kitchen knife to slice my back because I refused to make dinner for him. The scar reduced my value" She narrated and tears threatened to fall from my eyes.
"I'm sorry" I whispered and she chuckled, shaking her head.
"What's your story?" She asked.
"My stepfather and my mom sold me" I replied and she tutted.
"I can relate to the betrayal, turns out the term family is bullshit, I hope you get picked by a good man" She gave me a tight smile.
The girl sobbing earlier ran into the room with wide eyes and blood dripping down her chin.
"Oh my God"
"What did she do?"
I was about to walk towards her when Madeline came in and she ran towards her, "Help- help me" She pleaded and Madeline pushed her away.
The two men with her earlier in my room returned with the girls they had taken, and the scared-looking girls rushed back to the line.
"Take care of her" Madeline ordered and left the same way she came.
One of them brought out a glock and shot the girl twice in her head and chest. I screamed as she dropped dead on the ground, blood pooled around her instantly.
MIAMy twentieth birthday was more than I could have ever asked for. There weren’t many people present because I didn’t have friends, but it was worthwhile.“Look who is twenty today,” Keith said as he walked into the bedroom.I had had to drag myself back to my room to take off my clothes and jewelry. In the last couple of weeks, Keith had spoiled me silly with shopping and hiring an event planner to plan my birthday,It was magical!I was tired from having more fun than I ever thought I would be able to get in my life, but as soon as Keith walked in, my energy jumped back to life instantly.“Thank you for the party, Keith,” I said with a low voice, sounding a little lower than my usual voice. We were back at the mansion, and Keith had become more loving and caring than I could have ever thought. He had had to focus on rebuilding the Institute, especially with the absence of Jackie as well, but then again, he managed to always be there for me.Also, since that first night that Keith
JACKIEIt had been over two weeks since Keith kicked me out of the Institute and completely excommunicated me. All attempts to get back into his good books failed woefully. And then the arrest.Everything had happened so fast, and as I stared into space and waited for the doctor’s report, I thought about everything and how much I had lost.“You should even be grateful that after everything Keith found out about you, he didn’t kill you like he did to Saint,” a voice in my head told me.The detective had rounded me up a few days after Keith kicked me out. I had tried to reach out to Keith to get me out of the station because I knew that with his connection and wealth, he could, but Keith stood firmly to his words. He wouldn’t be moved. No attempt made by me was fruitful. Then a week and a few days later, I had collapsed in the station after suffering dizziness and a pounding headache for some days. I was still very much under the police’s custody, and that was exactly where I would be
MIAI waited for Keith impatiently, and I began to ask myself if I did the right thing by telling him all that he should know about Jackie.“Keith has always treated me like a child,” I said to myself. “What if he doesn’t listen to me? What if he kills Jackie?” I questioned myself.I would never be able to forgive myself if he did. Also, I didn’t even get to confront him about Edward Zachary before he stormed off.“Keith is taking too long,” I said to myself as I began to pace around in his office. My worry was intensifying, but after some minutes, the door opened and Keith walked in.“I am sorry I took longer than expected,” Keith said.My eyes widened with shock instantly.Keith Von Quavo, the stiff and strong mafia, apologizing to me for nearly no reason? It felt too good to be true! I had to blink twice to be sure that I wasn’t dreaming.Keith didn’t notice my reaction to his apology.“I wanted to make sure Jackie left the Institute once and for all,” Keith continued, walking clos
KEITH I turned, ready to leave.“Where are you going?” Detective Austin asked me.“To prepare for war,” I said, already pulling out my cell phone to call Cain, because I knew that Terrace was bringing war to me, and I needed to be ready.I should thank the detective for giving me this information because if he hadn’t, Terrace would have rounded me up and destroyed me in the blink of an eye, but I just couldn’t right now.Even at that, my heart was still beating hard against my chest. I wasn’t ready to war against Terrace. He was the only man that was deadlier and more dangerous than I was, and by now, he would have already guessed that I also got rid of Julian because he was getting too close. The detective stood up as well.“You don’t have to, Keith,” he said deeply.I stopped and turned to him again.“What do you mean?” I asked.“We are looking to nail him too, Keith. He has been responsible for a lot of deadly crimes in the city, but we haven’t been able to get a hold of him for y
KEITH “What is this about?” I asked detective Austin as soon as I got to the address he sent to me.It was a small isolated restaurant that didn’t have any customers, so as soon as I got there, I picked up my gun. I always had one in my car, but I rarely used it because there hadn’t been the need for me to. I tucked it into my waistband before proceeding into the restaurant, and I saw the detective waiting for me. He was the only one there. I would be damned to trust anyone fully, including a bloody detective.“Please, sit,” he said calmly.“I am not cut out for this,” I said with a snarl.I wanted to get back to the Institute as soon as possible to confront Jackie about her painful lie, and as such, I didn’t have the time for this, especially now that we really didn’t have much in common.“You already have what you want; the new Dealer is dead, and we don’t have need for each other anymore,” I added, still standing.“If you thought so deep inside, Keith, you wouldn’t have come,” he
MIAKeith still hadn’t returned to the Institute after long hours, and I became more worried because I didn’t get to pack his food before he left.“It’s already lunch time now and he isn’t here,” I said to myself wistfully.I trudged to the cafeteria. That was the last place I really wanted to be right now, especially after what happened, but I really didn’t have much of a choice.Thankfully, I saw Tommy just when he was about to enter the cafeteria.“You came for lunch?” Tommy asked me.He sounded surprised, but I could also understand why he was like that. The poison episode was still fresh, but the truth was that a lot of things were now on my mind, like Edward Zachary being Keith’s biological father. I really wanted to confront Keith about me.A part of me was livid and confused at the same time, but the other part of me was worried about Keith. Everything just seemed to be happening in too much haste and I didn’t know what to do.“Keith isn’t back yet,” I told him.“But Jackie is
