Chapter 7

ผู้เขียน: Star Pocket
The voice came from the room on Allison's left. She stopped and turned toward it.

The door was slightly ajar, giving her a clear view of everything inside.

Camila was propped up against the raised hospital bed while Philip leaned over the mattress, clutching both of her hands. Daniel sat in a chair nearby, watching them with a warm smile.

Anyone who didn't know better would have thought they were a happy family of three.

Camila looked at Philip fondly and let him shake her arm. "I'm fine, darling. I'm sorry I made you worry about me."

She leaned down and gently kissed his forehead.

Philip didn't pull away. Instead, his cheeks turned pink, making him look even more adorable. But what he said next sent a chill through Allison.

"This is all Mommy's fault! She didn't even know what was going on, but she came in and ruined everything. She upset you so much that you ended up in the hospital. I hate her. If she doesn't apologize to you, I'll never talk to her again. I'll never forgive her!"

Camila's eyes widened, as though she hadn't expected Philip to say that. Her eyes filled with tears; she looked both hurt by what had happened and touched that he was defending her.

Daniel finally cut in, his tone stern. "Philip, that's enough. This is between the adults."

Philip pouted. "No. Mommy was awful!"

Then he let go of Camila's hand and walked over to Daniel. With a completely serious expression, he said, "Daddy, divorce Mommy. Then Camila can really be my mommy, okay?"

"What?" Camila gasped, looking stunned. "Philip, what are you saying..."

"Philip." Daniel's expression hardened. "Who taught you to say that?"

Daniel wasn't just a professor who supervised graduate students. He also ran a technology company with more than a thousand employees. When he turned serious, his presence alone was enough to silence the room.

When he saw how angry Daniel was, Philip burst into tears and threw himself into Camila's arms.

Even though he was scared, he still refused to back down.

"I don't care! I like Camila, and I don't like Mommy! Camila does experiments with me and teaches me things the other kids don't know. Even Grandma and Aunt Kimberly said you deserve someone smart like Camila."

"That's enough. Stop talking nonsense!"

Daniel shot to his feet and strode over, reaching for Philip.

Camila immediately held Philip tighter. "Don't be so hard on him. He's still young. He doesn't understand what he's saying. He needs patience and guidance, not punishment."

Daniel looked at Philip sobbing in Camila's arms, and his frustration flared again. "Allison can't even teach her own son how to behave. What can she do right?"

Even though Allison had already made up her mind, his words still cut deep.

"Please don't say that about Mrs. Hall. No one knows everything, and everyone has their limits. I'm sure she's done the best she can. It's just..."

Camila trailed off when she looked up and saw Allison standing outside the door. Her expression immediately stiffened.

"M-Mrs. Hall..."

Philip lifted his head from Camila's arms and spotted Allison, too. "Mommy?"

Daniel stayed where he was, staring at Allison. The irritation in his eyes faded slightly when he saw her.

His voice, however, remained cold. "I'm glad you finally came to your senses. Come in and apologize to Camila."

Allison paused. Daniel clearly misunderstood and assumed she came to apologize.

The moment Philip heard that Allison was going to apologize, he jumped off the bed and ran into the hallway. Before she could say anything, he grabbed her hand and pulled her into the room, just as he had shoved her away and ordered her to leave at the wedding.

"Mommy, you upset Camila so much that she ended up in the hospital. Hurry up and apologize! Good people admit when they're wrong."

Philip pulled Allison to a stop beside Camila's bed and looked up at her expectantly.

Camila's face went pale. She quickly waved her hands, looking flustered and anxious to explain.

"You don't have to apologize. I'm the one who owes you an apology. Please don't misunderstand Professor Hall. He was only trying to help because my family was pressuring me to get married. The wedding wasn't real."

Then, as if something else had just occurred to her, she quickly added, "And the kiss wasn't part of the rehearsal or the plan. I don't know why the emcee added it during the ceremony. I swear I'm telling the truth. Please don't blame Professor Hall because of me. I'd never forgive myself."

Daniel watched his student force herself to explain despite how weak she was, all for the sake of defending him.

Allison, meanwhile, stood there without saying a word.

Daniel's expression hardened.

"Camila, you don't need to explain anything to her. She overreacted and made a scene. She's the one who should be apologizing to you."

Allison let out a bitter laugh and looked at him coldly.

"Fine. Let's say I overreacted. We've been married for seven years, Daniel. We never had a wedding, and we don't even have wedding photos. So how about I find another man tomorrow and have a wedding with him instead? Would that be okay with you?"

Daniel frowned, his patience wearing thin. "That's not the same thing. Stop being ridiculous."

Allison nodded. By then, she felt completely numb.

"Fine. Then let's talk about something that actually matters. Tomorrow is Monday. Let's file for divorce."

At the mention of divorce, Daniel instinctively glanced at Philip, then at Camila. Only then did he step toward Allison, his expression warning her not to push him any further.

"I'm running out of patience. Stop making a scene."

In the past, whenever Daniel became angry or impatient, Allison would immediately grow nervous and uncertain.

Not that he often showed her much emotion. Most of the time, he treated her with cold indifference, as though she wasn't worth the effort.

But this time, Allison didn't back down. She remained calm and repeated herself with even greater certainty.

"You were the one who brought up divorce this morning. I agreed."

Daniel froze for a moment, something unreadable flickering in his eyes.

For the first time, he looked at Allison as though she were a stranger.

The security code was the same. Allison entered it and walked straight inside. In the living room, Camila and Philip were roughhousing on the couch, both still in their pajamas."Camila, stop! That tickles! I'm sorry, I'm sorry! I'll never scare you or trick you into getting out of bed again!""You little troublemaker! You pretended to be a ghost just to scare me? You're in for it now!"Camila tickled Philip lightly along his sides. He rolled around on the couch, laughing so hard that he could barely catch his breath, with no sign that he minded at all.Allison stood in the foyer and watched them in silence. The sight sent a sharp ache through her chest. She couldn't remember the last time Philip had curled up in her arms, clung to her affectionately, and laughed with her like that. She assumed he had simply grown up. Six-year-olds liked to think they were big kids, so it made sense that he no longer wanted to cuddle or play with her.But apparently, he had only stopped doing t

Then, remembering something, Daniel added, "As for your family... once things calm down, I'll explain everything to them myself."He already had too much on his plate. He had to prepare for next week's meeting with the new director of Joshua's R&D center, handle problems at the company, and finish the evaluation process for his promotion to full professor. On top of that, he was helping his father track down the chess prodigy who had seemingly vanished without a trace. One problem after another demanded his attention, leaving him with no time to spare.Besides, Allison was being unusually stubborn about the whole situation, and he had no desire to keep arguing with her. It would be better to wait until he had some free time, then explain everything to the Dixons himself. At the mention of her family, Camila lowered her gaze. "There's no need. I already tried to explain, but they wouldn't listen. They said I embarrassed them in front of everyone back home, and they're still pres

Philip raced into the kitchen and saw a woman standing at the stove with her back to him, dressed in Allison's pajamas."Mommy!" he called out. He was about to ask what she had made for breakfast when the woman turned around."Morning, Philip," Camila said with a smile.Philip stopped short. It wasn't Allison. It was Camila.Daniel walked in a moment later and paused when he noticed Camila was wearing Allison's pajamas.Seeing where he was looking, Camila quickly explained. "Philip and I stayed up pretty late last night, and Julia had already gone to bed. I didn't want to wake her just to ask for something to sleep in, so I borrowed a pair of Mrs. Hall's pajamas without asking. "I'm sorry, Mr. Hall. I'll wash them before giving them back."Daniel looked away, clearly unconcerned. "It's fine. They're just pajamas. She has plenty."Then he turned to Julia. "Where's Allison?"Julia forced a smile and answered honestly, "She's not here."Daniel's expression darkened. All

The light from Camila's phone cast a faint glow over her face. Her expression darkened, and she pressed her lips together.By the time she looked up, her usual understanding expression was back in place. "Professor Hall, it's getting late. Now that you're home, I know Philip will be fine. I..." She tried to set Philip down even though he was still clinging to her. "I should get going."Daniel checked the time and frowned. "Are you going back to the hospital or to your apartment?"Camila gave him a faint, bitter smile. "The hospital already signed me out for the night, so I can't exactly go back now. As for my apartment..." She paused. "I'll figure something out. I can get a cheap hotel room for the night.""No." Daniel shut down the idea immediately, guilt flickering across his face. "You came all this way because of Philip. Stay here tonight. I'll drive you home first thing tomorrow morning.""Uh..." Camila hesitated, clearly unsure whether she should accept."You shou

Daniel thought back to the social media post his business partner mentioned earlier. At the time, he assumed Philip had posted a picture of himself with Allison. After hearing Julia's explanation, he pulled out his phone and opened Philip's profile. Only then did he realize the post captioned [Me and my favorite mommy] showed Philip with Camila.Allison was the first to like it, followed by Kimberly."Philip, what's this?" Daniel asked sternly. "You know who your mother is. You can't post things like this."For once, Daniel was really angry with him. He didn't raise his voice, but the icy look in his eyes was enough to frighten the little boy.Philip immediately burst into tears and threw himself into Camila's arms. "I didn't do anything wrong! I want Camila to be my mom. I don't want Mommy anymore. "She didn't even pick me up from school. She's useless. I don't want her!"Seeing that Daniel was genuinely angry, Camila quickly held Philip tighter. "Professor Hall, please do

"Of course."Luke quickly returned to a normal speed, though he still glanced back at the villa. Unable to contain his curiosity any longer, he asked, "Mr. Shaw, I wasn't imagining things, was I? When we passed Crestview One just now, I saw a light on upstairs."The man in the back seat slowly opened his eyes but said nothing.Luke continued, "Did someone move in?" Then his eyes widened. "Wasn't that the house you gave Dr.—""Luke." The distinguished man finally spoke, his voice deceptively calm.A chill ran down Luke's spine the moment he heard his boss's tone. "Yes, sir!"The man frowned. "I never realized you were this talkative."Sweat broke out across Luke's forehead, and his hands tightened around the steering wheel. "I'll stop talking. Not another word..."-Daniel was under considerably less pressure that day. Elliot recently confirmed that the developer of the quantum resonator gyroscope would be joining the institute's R&D center the following week. If ever
