Chapter 2 Shocking News

Author: Sugar-Free
My mother-in-law protested, "No, you're not going through with that—"

The pain in my stomach was intensifying, and I almost lost my strength to stand. My worried mother-in-law held me up. "You're anemic, Rachel. They'll be taking more of your blood for the test. It's not going to be good for the baby. I think we should forget about it."

I was a little uneasy. Maybe my mother-in-law was hiding something from me. If I didn't go through with the test, Cassius' paranoia would only worsen.

I bit my lip and shook my head. With the last ounce of my strength, I held myself up and said yes. "I'll do it."

Under Cassius' gaze, I slowly went into the test center. Jessica took my blood herself. The moment I was pricked, I could sense my mother-in-law's concern grow. The first needle was pulled out only to be followed by a second one.

Then, the third, the fourth, the fifth…

Then the thirty-ninth. I was nearly crashing out at the fortieth draw. Weakly, I asked, "I thought only 10 milliliters of the mother's blood is needed for the test, Dr. Riverson?"

Jessica explained innocently, "Well, we thought we should conduct more tests just to be sure who the baby's father is."

I sneered. "And forty samples aren't enough?"

A pair of hands pushed me down on the cold metal. Coldly, Cassius looked at me. "You don't get to lord anyone around, Rachel. If you don't want to get your blood taken, I'll make you."

He tied my hands on the metal and let Jessica draw my blood ninety-nine times. I was white as paper, and cold sweat was pouring down like rain.

Panicked, my mother-in-law lunged and defended me. "She's going to die! The baby's going to die too if this keeps up!"

Cassius, drowning in his rage, shoved his mother away.

I gasped as my mother-in-law crashed into the wall headfirst. Blood trickled from her forehead, and she fainted. Without thinking, I tried to break free of the ropes, but then the needle jabbed into my veins.

The pain turned my eyes red, and I roared at Cassius, "That's your mother! How could you—"

Cassius slapped me. "Shut up. I know you've been sleeping with random men all the time. I will not let the bastard come to this world!"

I felt the taste of metal dribble down my mouth. He was going to attack me again, and I explained in a hurry, "It is your brother's child!"

Cassius grabbed my chin and snickered. "We'll find out in three hours. In the meantime, stay in the warehouse and think about what you did."

I was thrown into a warehouse and curled up behind the entrance. Bruises decorated my arms. My lips were shouting in pain, and my cheeks were swollen from the slap. The pain in my belly came again. I felt the life within slip away.

I went on my knees and looked at him with a silent plea in my eyes. 'I'm a shameless woman. I only got knocked up with this child because I seduced your brother. Please don't lock me up. Please. I am pregnant with your brother's child.'

Cassius bent over and watched me suffer in pain, but there was no sympathy in his eyes. There was only disgust. "And so what if you are? My brother's a vegetable. He can't be the family's heir. Only Jessica's child can be the Lichtenstein's heir!"

Disbelief flashed in my eyes. 'Jessica is pregnant?' I thought.

It was New Year's Eve, and I was enjoying the view of the snow in the yard. Naturally, I had a jacket over me. Then, suddenly, I felt something coil around my neck. It didn't take long for whatever it was to tighten its grip.A familiar voice came from behind. "You're not getting away with it, Rachel! Not after what you did to me!"I knew who it was, but then the oxygen was cut off to my brain. I yanked at the rope around my neck, trying to survive, but Cassius was stronger than I imagined. "You're coming to hell with me. We're not officially divorced, remember?"I couldn't make a coherent sentence, but I tried my best to speak up. "C-Cassius, I know… know you love… love Jessica. W-Want to know… why she… she didn't… marry you?"And then the rope loosened up. My lungs desperately gulped for air. The bodyguards came out of the shadows and pinned Cassius down. I looked at him and noticed he'd lost his left arm. The left sleeve was hanging there limply. The family's torture took a big

"This result might be wrong. We should do the test a few more times. Someone might've tampered with it! We can't let them hurt Cassius!" Jessica was a mess of tears, and anyone else would've pitied her.Donald slowly raised his head, his eyes on Jessica. I thought he would buy her story, just like Cassius did. Instead, he said, "Very well. You're a doctor, Ms. Riverson. Why don't you conduct the paternity test this time?"Something flashed in Jessica's eyes, and she nodded. "I'll make the necessary preparations."Donald had made the preparations, and he asked Jessica to draw her blood. She complied, and just when she was going to get her syringe of blood tested, Donald stopped her. "Oh, one sample isn't enough. We need more."Cassius realized he was being toyed with. Flames of rage burned in his eyes, and he tried to get up, but the bodyguards made sure he stayed down and couldn't move. He struggled, but it was of no use. "What do you want?"Donald looked at the weakened me. With

Something struck Cassius, and he turned his attention to me, the look in his eyes scathing. He wrapped his hand around my neck and roared, "You did this, didn't you? You bitch! How dare you try to slander me!"I felt my uterus contract, and the pain was getting unbearable. Oh God, this might be where I was killed.Fortunately, Donald came just in time. He kicked Cassius away and pulled me into his arms. "Rachel."I had tears in my eyes, and I held him with my blood-soaked hands. "The baby… The baby's gone."A sorrowful Donald picked me up. "I've called the doctor. It'll be fine. The baby will be fine."I was beside myself with my sobbing. I certainly hoped the baby would be fine. When the doctor injected the meds into my veins, I shrank into Donald's arms without thinking. "Don't take my blood. You'll kill the baby."Donald noticed the blood covering my body, and he was shaken. There was a storm of rage in his eyes. He would kill Cassius if he had the chance. He couldn't believe

At the same time, the villa's gates yawned open, and Philip was right outside. Loudly, he scolded, "How dare you attack my grandson, you animal! Stop this instant!"Cassius froze and turned around. He was surprised to see Philip. "I thought you were half an hour away from home, though!""Help Rachel up, you brat!" Philip yelled, and he swung his cane at Cassius.Cassius grunted and fell to the ground. Blood seeped through his skin and soiled the back of his shirt. Darkly, he said, "This bitch slept with someone else, Dad! She lied to Mom! Her baby isn't the family's heir! She's not worthy of us! Not worthy of me!"Philip was trembling with rage. He jabbed a finger at Cassius. "You think I wouldn't know if her child isn't the family's heir?"Cassius frowned and stood back up. He seemed confused. "Why would you believe her? I thought Mom buying her story was stupid enough! Donald's a vegetable! There's no way he can knock anyone up! This woman is lying!"He hurled the slightly crum

That explained why Cassius was wary of my child. They'd been sleeping behind my back. That necrospermia story was probably fake. I smiled bitterly as tears streamed down my cheeks."Your brother's going to come after you. You'll pay for what you did to me. To his child."Cassius kicked my belly. "Really? I'd like to see how a guy in a coma will come after me."That kick nearly locked me out. Though I was in agony, I still tried to keep my baby safe, yet Cassius wasn't about to spare me. He grabbed the scalpel and tore my patient gown open, revealing my belly."This bastard is a stain on the family's bloodline! I will scrape it out myself!""No!" I felt my throat closing up. The cold metal was closing in on my belly, and it chilled my blood.Jessica appeared at the entrance and asked darkly, "What if she is pregnant with Donald's child? How are you going to explain yourself to your dad?"Philip Lichtenstein adored his firstborn, and he was famous for that. If his son's child was

Fury took over Cassius Lichtenstein's face. "I knew it. You're a shameless woman, Rachel Bowson!"My heart trembled in pain, as if it had been hit by a thousand needles. For five years, I was married to Cassius, and I had been nothing but caring and faithful to him. And what did I get in the end? Him giving me to someone else like I was a piece of meat.I protested and protested. I tried to appeal for a divorce time and time again, but I failed. After my hundredth failure, I decided to give in and sleep with my brother-in-law willingly. For three months, I got entangled with my brother-in-law, and I got pregnant.Cassius closed in on me, his eyes sharp. "You act like an innocent and chaste woman, but when I'm not around, you sleep around like a common wench."My eyes were turning red. I tried to hold everything down, but I couldn't anymore. "I'm pregnant with your brother's child, Cassius. Watch your tongue."Cassius punched the vase beside him, and he roared at me, "You know damn
