The day my husband, Lucas Maxwell, helps his childhood sweetheart—Cecilia Brown, who has cancer—lose her virginity, I leave behind a divorce agreement and walk away. Before I leave, I drop a comment beneath a photo of them on his social media. Their fingers are tightly interlocked in the photo. "Let's get divorced. I wish you both a lifetime of happiness." A minute later, he calls me. "How did I end up marrying someone as selfish as you, Fiona Sinclair? Do you really have the heart to let her die without leaving anything behind?" I sneer, "You're no longer my husband. How is that my problem?" That's when he panics.

Chapter 1

Everything was finally over after I signed the divorce agreement. I wiped my face and felt my thoughts clear up. I told myself I had given up on Lucas Maxwell, the man I loved and hated at the same time.

All the bitterness and pain I had carried slowly faded after I signed my name.

When I thought about Lucas, I suddenly found everything painfully ironic. Why was I grieving here? He was probably already in bed with his childhood sweetheart, Cecilia Brown.

He had never truly cared about me anyway. After all these years, I should have been used to it. I let out a derisive chuckle.

I was merely indignant. Why was it that he was the one who betrayed me, yet he got to walk away unscathed?

That thought made me want to upset Lucas. So, I picked up my phone, tapped on his profile, and left a comment under the photo of him and Cecilia holding hands in their feed.

"Let's get a divorce. I wish you a lifetime of happiness. Now, you and Cecilia don't have to rack your brains for excuses just to sleep together anymore."

Lucas and I had been married for six years, and we shared countless mutual friends. Cecilia's face wasn't visible in the photo he posted, so many people assumed the woman beside him was me. The comments were full of people teasing us for flaunting our love.

Lucas didn't correct them either. He let me become the perfect cover for his affair with Cecilia, and it made me sick. So, I decided to clear things up right there in the comments and show everyone what kind of man he was.

Less than a minute later, I received a call from him. "What the hell did you write under my post? What are people going to think of me when they see it? I already explained everything to you.

"Cecilia doesn't have much time left. Can't you even fulfill this one wish of hers?"

When I didn't respond, his tone became harsher. "How did I end up marrying someone as selfish as you, Fiona Sinclair? Do you really have the heart to let her die without leaving anything behind?"

I felt nothing but disgust when I heard that. Lucas was my husband, yet he wanted to sleep with another woman, have a child with her, and somehow expect me to agree to it and support them.

Also, Cecilia's so-called wish was to sleep with Lucas and lose her virginity? Who did he think he was fooling? At that moment, I lost all attachment to this relationship.

"You're not my husband anymore. What does this have to do with me? Even if you and Cecilia have ten children together, it's none of my business," I sneered. "Oh, I get it now; you want me to raise your illegitimate child for you, huh? I've never met a man as shameless as you, Lucas!"

Suppressing the strong urge to strangle him, I hung up the phone. Even one more second with him felt unbearable.

As you can see, the reason for my divorce was absurd beyond belief. My husband wanted to let his childhood sweetheart, who had cancer, die without regrets. He wanted to help her lose her virginity and carry on her bloodline by fathering her child.

A week ago, Lucas had suddenly told me that Cecilia was back.

The moment I heard that, I instinctively tightened my grip on my phone. I pretended to sound nonchalant as I asked why she had returned. I knew better than anyone how important Cecilia was to him.

Lucas pressed his lips together and, with teary eyes, explained, "She has terminal stomach cancer, so she wants to spend her last days back in her hometown."

Despite my reservations about Lucas and Cecilia's history, I forced myself to accept his frequent visits to the hospital, knowing she didn't have much time left. However, two weeks later, he suddenly came to me, hesitation written all over his face, saying he wanted to discuss something with me.

I didn't know what it was about, but the moment I noticed how solemn he looked, a bad feeling rose in my chest.

After a moment of hesitation, he said firmly, "I want to have a child with Cecilia."

"What?" My mind went completely blank when I heard that. What did that even mean? Was my husband telling me he wanted a child with another woman?
