Chapter 2

Author: Hyacinth
Victoria was the first she-wolf Damian chose during our first Unclaimed Moon. That month lasted only twenty-seven days.

Back then, she had only been an ordinary she-wolf who accidentally wandered into our twisted game. The truth hurt her badly, so Damian later brought her into Moonridge Pack as compensation.

Years had changed her. The nameless she-wolf from before had become elegant, charming, and far too good at reading people.

I lifted the whiskey in front of me. "I didn't bet on anything."

A drunk pack member passed by, muttering, "Long live freedom," before winking at me. "Our future Luna must be praying the Alpha doesn't get stolen away, so he'll crawl back to her again."

Victoria waved him off and turned back to me. "He's playing, so you should play too. Why tie yourself to one wolf?"

"There are plenty of wolves in the northern territories."

I stirred the ice in my glass and leaned closer to her. "If you want to win big, bet with me. You won't regret it."

Victoria turned sharply, surprise flashing in her eyes. Before she could ask anything, screams and whistles erupted from the dance floor.

A spotlight fell on Damian.

He was dancing tango with a pale, slender she-wolf in his arms. Even from where I sat, I could feel the raw chemistry between them.

"Five minutes in, and Damian already picked someone," someone laughed. "Looks like Aurora is in danger again."

"Wait. Doesn't she look familiar?"

She did.

Scarlett.

She was last year's thirty-day lover.

Scarlett was wildfire, everything I was not. She wore a short leather skirt and moved with reckless energy, the kind of thrill I could never give him.

To me, a month meant thirty ordinary nights. Damian and I went to art shows, wine tastings, and quiet dinners.

To Scarlett, a month meant color and danger. She took Damian diving, skydiving, and chasing every reckless thrill she could find.

In the end, she pushed him into something truly insane.

She ran an underground racing club and persuaded Damian to cross into Blackwater territory for an illegal midnight race. Blackwater was enemy land, and no Alpha heir of Moonridge Pack should have been there for sport.

When I heard the news, I stayed awake all night. Damian refused every call I made.

I dropped my work, chased after him, and used my family's influence among the northern packs to block both ends of the overpass.

In the cold night wind, I forced his roaring Aston Martin to stop.

"You have no racing experience. You can't do this."

Damian leaned back in the driver's seat, playing with the car key. "Aurora, you've gone too far. This is my free month."

Then he glanced at Scarlett beside him. "Besides, Scarlett will keep me safe."

Scarlett sat in the passenger seat, chewing gum as she gave me a mocking look. "So this is Damian's boring little babysitter."

The words stuck in my throat. I looked at Damian, but he avoided my eyes.

In the end, I stepped aside and let them pass. Scarlett's pleased laugh cut through the engine noise as they drove away.

I thought it was finally over. I thought I was free.

Ten minutes later, Damian caught up with me.

"Aurora, I'll listen to you. I won't race."

That night, Scarlett went to watch the race alone and got into an accident.

The moment Damian heard the news, his face changed. He gave me one cold look before rushing to the Healing Lodge.

He personally pushed Scarlett's stretcher in. Her leg was broken, twisted at a terrible angle.

She grabbed my hand and sobbed, "Aurora, I don't blame you, but you and Damian were already apart. Please stop clinging to him."

Every stare in the room landed on me.

After all those years by Damian's side, I had become the outsider.

During Scarlett's recovery, Damian cleared out the best private Healing Lodge in Moonridge territory for her. He ignored pack affairs and his own health, staying by her bed day and night.

For three full months, he broke the rules of Unclaimed Moon completely. He never came back.

During that time, pressure from the allied packs and his betrayal pushed me past my limit. I collapsed from severe internal bleeding and woke in a ward surrounded by the cold beeping of machines.

Damian did not even call.

Later, I heard what he had said.

"When did she learn to fake illness? Besides, she has all of you taking care of her. Scarlett only has me."

The entire northern pack circle was waiting to see me replaced.

Even I believed it.

But just when everyone was ready to laugh, Damian opened the door of my residence again.

He and Scarlett had suddenly ended things. Even when Scarlett threatened her own life, he still chose to come back to me.

Late that night, he held me in his arms and whispered against my ear, "Aurora, I only owed her a debt."

"You are the only Luna of Moonridge Pack. That will never change."

I saw the faint red mark on his collarbone, and my stomach turned.

Moonlight spilled outside like silver.

I said quietly, "Then let's complete the bonding ceremony now."

The tenderness on Damian's face froze. He let go of me, turned toward the bar, and poured himself a glass of whiskey.

The ice struck the glass with a sharp, cold sound.

Three weeks after Damian found me in Silvercrest territory, Bella called through the encrypted line."Scarlett is gone," she said. He fought with a recklessness that terrified even his own guards, as though surviving had become more painful than dying.During one border clash, he charged into a silver ambush before Vincent could stop him.Damian survived, but barely. The old Alpha stripped him of command, suspended his right of succession, and confined him to the northern estate before he could destroy what remained of Moonridge Pack.A month later,

Marco stepped between us before Damian could reach for me again. The restaurant was so quiet that even the clink of a fork against a plate sounded sharp.Damian stared at me as if he had never seen me before."You broke our bond," he said hoarsely. "Aurora, how could you do that to us?""To us?" I repeated.A bitter laugh almost escaped me, but I swallowed it down. I would not give him another collapse to remember me by."You suppressed our mate bond every year because freedom mattered more to you than loyalty. I broke it once because my life and my pup depended on it."His gaze dropped to my stomach.Pain flashed across his face."Our pup," he whispered."No," I said quietly. "My pup."Damian staggered back half a step, as if those two words had opened a wound he had no way to close. He fumbled in his pocket and pulled out a ring box. His hands were trembling."I was going to ask you properly," he said. "I prepared everything. The bonding ceremony, the dress, the vows in front of the

I settled in a centuries-old villa deep in the Silvercrest highlands, far from the Moonridge border. Mountains surrounded the estate on three sides, and the only road in was guarded by two checkpoints of Silvercrest warriors.I deleted every social account and cut off every connection to Moonridge Pack. For the first time in years, there were no betting tables, no whispers, and no invisible bond dragging me back to Damian.I was not ready to be found.Sometimes, Bella called through an encrypted line."Aurora, Damian has completely lost his mind," she said one evening. "He released Moonridge Pack's entire intelligence network. Every territory connected to him is being searched."I sat beneath the vine-covered terrace, holding a cup of warm tea. The evening sun made the leaves glow gold above my head.Without Damian, the sunlight in Silvercrest territory felt warmer. But nearly a decade of emotional damage did not heal in a few peaceful weeks. Some nights, I still woke from dreams where

Damian rushed back into the hollow residence. It looked exactly as it had when he left the night before. The rooms were empty, the walls were bare, and Aurora was gone. This time, however, the silence felt different. The mate bond had vanished. He walked quickly toward the empty nursery, searching for anything he might have missed. He looked down and saw an abandoned photo frame. When he crouched and turned it over, his fingers touched a folded piece of paper hidden behind the backing. He pulled it out and opened it.It was an ultrasound report from a private Healing Lodge in neutral territory outside Moonridge Pack. The date was two weeks ago.Twelve weeks pregnant. For a long time, Damian could not move. His tall body swayed violently, and one hand shot out to grip the wall.Aurora was pregnant. She was carrying his pup, and he had spent the last month with Scarlett, counting the days of his freedom like a fool.He looked at the ultrasound report again, and the silence where the mate

Damian's POVWhen Damian pushed open the door of the abandoned warehouse by the docks, he saw only Scarlett sitting on a rusted oil barrel. There were no Blackwater wolves and no ambush. There was only a shallow cut on her leg.Damian immediately understood that Scarlett had faked the attack to lure him there. Anger surged through him, sharp enough to make his wolf stir beneath his skin. But when Scarlett pressed her soft body against him, that anger weakened slightly.Scarlett lifted her wrist with red-rimmed eyes. A fresh cut stood out against her pale skin."They really did hurt me," she said, her voice trembling. "But I was too scared I would never see you again, so I didn't let them cut too deep."She looked up at him with wet eyes. "Otherwise, Damian, how would you ever see me again? I really don't want to live without you."A trace of pity flashed through Damian's eyes, but his voice stayed cold."Next time, use a sharper blade."Scarlett froze. Then she laughed softly and wrapp

The moment my private plane landed in the Italian territories, Damian's private pack feed updated. Only the core members of Moonridge Pack could see that account.Scarlett had posted from it.Hello, this is Damian. My favorite thing is eating pasta by the sea.In the photo, Damian was cooking in a coastal kitchen with his sleeves rolled up, revealing the strong lines of his forearms. A sharp pain struck my lower abdomen without warning, like a dagger driving straight through me.I dropped to my knees in the crowded airport as darkness swallowed my vision. When I opened my eyes again, the scent of disinfectant and medicine filled my nose. A gray-haired Italian healer stood at the foot of my bed, his eyes full of pity."Miss Aurora, you are fourteen weeks pregnant," he said quietly. "You suffered a threatened miscarriage caused by long-term stress and a sudden emotional shock."My fingers curled against the sheet. The healer continued, "The pup is still alive, but your condition is dange
