As I wait, a nurse's voice wafts across the hallway. I turn to see Belle in her hospital gown, walking over to me while a nurse attempts to stop her.

“How is mom now?” She asks with urgency. I gently shove her down on the chair, signaling the nurse to leave us be. She nods before walking away.

“Still in the OR” I answer, crossing my arms against my chest.

“How are your wounds?” I ask, although I can guess but I need to cut this suffocating silence that's threatening to give more space to the negative thoughts in my head.

Tearing her gaze off the hallway, she looks back at me and then adds softly,
